GTA: Chinatown Wars to feature entire Liberty City

Spanish magazine Hispana has published a new preview of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars in which it discloses that the gameplay won't be limited to, well, Chinatown. In fact, the mag states that the full areas of Duke, Bohan, Broker, and Algonquin from GTA IV will be part of the handheld title's game world, although Alderney (New Jersey in "real life") won't.
The magazine also offers a few more nifty details, such as the ability to whistle (or, we're guessing, yell irately) into the DS microphone to hail cabs, and that the PDA, GPS, and radio are all touch-screen based. On the topic of selling drugs, Hispana reports that It will be a "good way to make money in the game." Oh lordy.

Will Smith should sue them for using his face :D Unless he's the main character :o

Obviously, it's a tie-in. 'cause when you whistle into the mic, a cab comes near with a license plate that says "FRESH" and a dice in the mirror.

Comment of the day, Seroth. Bahaha...

Thank you, I never realized Will Smith was a 50-year-old Asian man.

Yelling into the mic sounds like a fun little gimmick, but are you really going to do it more than once if you dont have to.
baby sea tuna @ Nov 17th 2008 4:18PM
Right, as we all know...SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T YELL!
NaeemTHM @ Nov 17th 2008 4:05PM
This game is offense to my people! I demand it get pushed back a...oh wait that already happened.
Am I the only one that thinks this game is a bad idea? I mean Rockstar has absolutely spoiled us with those terrific PSP GTA's. Going back to the old overhead view seems archaic in comparison.
Rockstar should have crafted a brand new game for the DS...it's well over due.
sam @ Nov 17th 2008 6:29PM
Wait, I'm confused. This *is* a brand new game for the DS?
Personally I'm glad they didn't make it like the PSP games - those were basically PS2 games but with slightly worse graphics, put them on a DS and you get PS2 games with *much* worse graphics. The visual style here is great and I don't have a problem with the overhead view. Seems to me this is much more like a 'brand new game' than the PSP ever got. (Which is reasonable, given the PSP's strengths as a system which is, you know, basically the same as a handheld PS2.)
Let's hope the gameplay is good though...

"Hey, watch it buddy!" Did you ever play the original GTAs? I loved them, back before the 3D shift. Hell, I even have GTA 2 on my PSP and play that all the time. This should be great.

Yes, I think you are the only one.

The vehicle being jacked in the bottom-left quarter has a manual transmission. How are the touchscreen controls going to handle turning the key and depressing the clutch at the same time? :)

I hope it's able to be completely unlocked, so you can visit all areas even when you aren't in a mission.
Mr Khan @ Nov 17th 2008 4:49PM
Strange. I hadn't assumed that the game would be all that large.
Though asset reuse might work

I'm digging the graphics

Oh please God no, I can't believe they've shoehorned in a tacky, contrived microphone gimmick (what is this 2005?) Blowing/yelling/whistling into the DS mic is the most horrible, cringeworthy, embarrassing and downright broken gimmick in gaming history. It renders a portable console completely unplayable (unless you have no dignity) and completely ruins the personal connection and feeling of privacy that a handheld console should provide. Oh and most importantly it's not fun at all. It's not innovative. It's not immersive. It's an utter disgrace.

You were speaking ironically, yes?

So I'm assuming we can drunkenly yell "YELLOW CAAAR" and that should work too?
