Hendrix DLC won't come to Guitar Hero on Wii
And now, our only White Men Can't Jump reference for all of 2008. We hope you enjoy it.
Those who prefer their Guitar Hero World Tour on the Wii may be able to listen to Jimi Hendrix, but they can't hear him ... at least, not while they're playing. Activision told MTV Multiplayer that the recently released Hendrix three-track pack would not be coming to the Wii, as it only allows for single-track downloads. "Certain artists prefer to keep the integrity of the track pack rather than releasing singles," the rep said.
We don't know what to add other than to say we're surprised that Jimi Hendrix's ghost takes such an interest in the Wii's infrastructure.

This seemed kind of obvious by now....
j.howlett @ Nov 17th 2008 10:12AM
i can hear jimi
Jeff @ Nov 17th 2008 10:15AM
OK, this sucks! I think it's great that the Wii finally has the ability to do the DLC for these games the fact that it can't handle a pack or that these can't be split up is just crap. And I know, if I want a "real system" I should just go buy a 360 but I'm not made of cash.
phobic99 @ Nov 17th 2008 10:17AM
Sell the Wii?
Just sayin'...
deaftly @ Nov 17th 2008 10:46AM
360's are cheaper then your wagglecube now
YouStayClassy @ Nov 17th 2008 10:51AM
WAGGLECUBE! ROFLMAO! That's hilarious, I haven't heard that one yet. But yeah man, sell your Wii. All mine has become is a glorified paperweight, I haven't even turned it on since May. But since it was a gift I can't sell it... :(
T @ Nov 17th 2008 10:56AM
@deaftly: A 360 that requires a memory card to run a mandatory expansion such as the NXE does not count as a console.
Mr Khan @ Nov 17th 2008 11:08AM
If he were to sell it, it would have to be now, like, right now. Aftermarket prices are going to drop through the rest of the month and into december, i think, as Nintendo releases their stockpile into the world.
And Wii sales will top 1 million per month :)
Wiinterfang @ Nov 17th 2008 11:25AM
I'm pretty such it's still more console than a wii.
Tiptup300 @ Nov 17th 2008 1:59PM
The wii is more expensive then the 360.
Jeff @ Nov 17th 2008 2:19PM
Sure - Selling the Wagglecube (like that one) would be an option...except that my wife and three kids wouldn't be too happy with me. Yes, wives and kids ARE possible for you to get when you grow up...unlike this DLC.
reign-♥-of-♥-love @ Nov 17th 2008 10:17AM
guitar hero doesnt think of anything but the green man. ha its funny how they're scared not to make at least 6 bucks a pop, cause 2 dollars at a time aint good enough for their greedy pockets.
RB2 fo'life son
Hafk @ Nov 17th 2008 4:05PM
Because they are somehow making more money from not putting this on the Wii?
lego91994 @ Nov 18th 2008 7:50AM
This probably isn't really Activisions fault. Why do you think Harmonix is only selling the ACDC pack all in one and not individualy for DLC?
The reason this isn't on Wii is because Nintendo does not allow duplicate content on the Wii store.
Rollins @ Nov 17th 2008 10:35AM
The integrity of the -track pack-?!
That's a great line of bullshit. I could understand if this was the case with a particular album, as some albums are meant to be listened to as a whole. But Hendrix surely didn't release songs in fucking three packs.
I don't even own a Wii and I'm annoyed by this.
OMGOMG @ Nov 17th 2008 10:42AM
Speaking of old rockers, anyone hear about the Beatles track that might be released?

So excited.
THRILLHO @ Nov 17th 2008 10:42AM
then sell the one everyone wants (fire) for 6, and make the other 2 free, then they get their money.
Curtis @ Nov 17th 2008 10:47AM
By "integrity of the track pack" they mean give you shit songs for the 1 song you want? Like, how most albums are packaged nowadays?
Mr Khan @ Nov 17th 2008 11:10AM
It was a stipulation in Hendrix's will, apparently. Words that fell together in that order in some sort of LSD trip.
At least that mystery has been solved
Kye - Capcom DF @ Nov 17th 2008 11:16AM
Really!?
Wonder why.
(sarcasm)
loving my wii but hating nintendo.
this message was slowly typed using a wii.
Mr Khan @ Nov 17th 2008 11:23AM
Considering Nintendo hasn't properly figured out online play after 3 years of trying (and 6-8 years after everyone else figured it out), it should come as no surprise.
In some ways they lead the industry, in others they are clearly the industry dinosaur

"In some ways they lead the industry, in others they are clearly the industry dinosaur"
Obviously.
HappyFunBall @ Nov 17th 2008 11:52AM
I'm glad I don't like any of those songs, but this is crap.
I was under the impression that the Wii's DLC would be just as robust as the other platforms... And to pull this "bait and switch" just hacks me off.
Add that to the fact that the Guitar Kit and Band Kit basically cost $10 more, and I'm getting peeved at this whole situation.
Hafk @ Nov 17th 2008 4:14PM
For most of the DLC problems, it's Nintendo's fault. Nintendo only allows for one instance of DLC on the Wii. Therefore, there can only single song downloads. Harmonix is doing the same thing for the Wii version of RB2.
However, on this side, Vicarious Visions only programmed the SD support for single songs only, and it can't support a three pack. VV can't patch the simple fix for the Wii version.... because NINTENDO DOESN'T ALLOW PATCHES. Hence why you had to send your disk in for the GH3 Mono patch.
I understand the "Artist Integrity" bit completely. Hendrix's people have been that way with his music. Bad vocals were the reason why they ordered the GH1 cover of Spanish Castle Magic to be an instrumental.
And of course, don't forget other bands, like AC/DC, that won't let you do individual downloads either.

"Certain artists prefer to keep the integrity of the track pack rather than releasing singles"
Ahahaha, integrity in music biz, that's a good one
jefreyw1f @ Nov 18th 2008 1:43PM
The "Wii can;t handle track packs" is BS.
Samba de Amigo currently has a 3-song DLC "track pack" for 500 Wii points.
But if a developer can't get past the tech issues (which SdA obviously HAS done), why not sell track packs as "packs" - but do it like this:
Example: Hendrix GH:WT DLC Wii
Sell the 1st of the 3 songs as a single DL for the price of the pack. Purchase of this one expensive song unlocks the availability of the other 2, which would be seen by the Wii/WFC/GH Music Store as "free" downloads.
The Hendrix Estate (who makes their decisions WITHOUT a Ouija board, BTW) gets all the $$ it expects whether you DL the other 2 tracks or not. But then, only a total moron would pay for 3 songs & only DL one of them.
madthoughts @ Nov 18th 2008 11:12PM
Sounds to me like they didn't negotiate their royalty rates correctly.
