Behold, fanboys, it's the New Xbox Experience introduction video that you'll be viewing on your own Xbox 360 this Wednesday when the NXE makes its official debut. The video is full of trippy and spectacular visuals (triptacular), a melting logo, some racing, intense tree climbing, a few musical things and a whirly wind of rainbow excitement. It's the NXE, it's exciting and it's an introduction video to the most newest xboxiest experience ... everest? Yeah, we'll admit, the trippy visuals have officially altered our state of mind.

That's all well and good, but WTF does it have to do with NXE?

Agreed. Kinda neat looking, but why not spread some info about the updates they are making? I assume they just wanted to throw some filler at us while its installing, but the filler could have some real info, no?

Supposedly, this only plays the first time you boot up the NXE.
PHEW.
The animation is cool and all, but I would grow to hate it after about the third time I turned it on.

As someone who already has the NXE, I can confirm this is correct :)
You can choose to re-watch it again at any time though, via the "Welcome" section of the dashboard. (The Welcome section can also be disabled via the Console Settings, if you find it a bit useless, which it kinda is.)
Big thumbs-up to the NXE though.

I can also confirm you can rewatch it via the welcome channel in the NXE. I know this cause I have it already (preview program). Yes, it plays once at first, then can be replayed as much as you wish in the manner previously described. The xbox start up is the same, the little swirly logo thingy. The new dash just comes up. I was hoping for a new load up logo and sound. Oh well. Next-box I guess.

Haha, well thats a relief, I was going to hate starting up my xbox and waiting 45 seconds, before I could do anything. I doubt I'd want to watch it again, lol, but still the video is pretty neat.

Nope. It's mandatory for any x-box connected to Live.

I don't really see a problem with that either..
Just because they added new menus and avatars and all these other things that they hope will attract new customers does not mean that your copies of Gears 2, Call Of Duty 4, Halo 3, or whatever other game you consider to be "hardcore" or whatever will blow up.

I've been using it for a while now, and, while features like Netflix and gaming parties are great, the design bites.
If you have more than a handful of friends, the Friends channel is a pain, because it only displays 3 friends at a time. You're better off press the Xbox button and viewing your friends from the list there. (For all the space that each friend takes in the Friends channel, very little info is displayed. You don't even get avatar animations there . . . a very inefficient use of space, but then, that's what I've come to expect from Microsoft interfaces.)
The avatar creation is a pain considering that it is used for almost nothing, except the Friends channel. Anyone expecting this to beat the PS3 "Home" will be disappointed. There's no ability to customize the channels and rearrange things. And the My Xbox channel is the most useful channel, but it's not the default initial channel.
Oh, and you can't edit your Netflix Instant Movie queue from the Xbox: you'll have to go to your PC. (Note that the Netflix plugin hack, however, offered that ability.)
Still, I love the Netflix feature, and I'll abide their craptacular interface for that.

When I first saw that video I was like "wtf did that have to do with NXE?"
Seriously, this update consists of avatars, streaming movies through netflix, parties, 8 person chat(they used to have 16 person chat WAAAAAAAY back in the OG days of Xbox Live), and then a silly little game where you can win real prizes, and that won't even be out until 2009. Oh and you can install games onto your xbox. Yippie. Now all I need to do is buy a 120 GB HD.
Not complaining, well ok maybe I am, but I will never understand what that video has to do with NXE.

Oh aren't you guys mature? Guess I should go cry to my mommy because I got pwned on the interweb?
I'm just stating facts, I'm not hating on NXE at all. But until you can tell me what that video has to do with a freakin dashboard update, I win. I've been a "microsoft fanboy" from day one but what is so ground breaking about avatars and burning games to the console? And how many people are actually going to use the Netflix feature? I bought the 360 to play games, nothing else. If I wanted to watch movies I'd buy a PS3. If I wanted to play with little animated characters I'd buy a Wii.
Just sayin.

from what I've seen so far, you don't have too create an avatar, I had two profiles I use for guests with an empty avatar outline but it didn't force me to make one...then again, they're really not that bad, and it scored bonus points with my wife

I have been using NXE since Friday. I love it! I think everyone will too. Haters, you'll change your mind. I spent like 20 minutes with the avatar creator and I didn't think i was gonna be much into that. There are 90 hairstyles and every 2 weeks more stuff will be added. Its great! added 2 games to my 120GB hdd. I have dont the party thing...its kick ass!

If you have an iPhone you have a way to change your Netflix instant queue without having to go on your computer! There is a free app called I.tv that gives you the ability to search for and add movies or tv shows to your disc or INSTANT VIEW queue! It is great to the XBOX360 and iPhone, the two most incredible pieces of technology on the planet, work in perfect harmony!
