Either:

A) MS is making us wait till the 19th (Most likly)
B) MS has perma-banned us (They have the right to, it's just not very likely)

I've had it for about a week now. Except for the zippier dashboard, it's a bit of a big meh for me.

16x10 resolution - meh. Can't tell the diff on a 24" LCD monitor, plus it adds black bars to the top and bottom to maintain the aspect ratio.

Avatars - meh. I spent a few minutes creating one and then posing it for a gamer pic snapshot. Haven't seen it again.

Install to Hard Drive - somewhat of a meh. It's not enough of a speed-up to load times to make me consider dropping $140 for a 120 GB hard drive. It does make Mass Effect run a little more smoothly.

Netflix/Video downloads and party gaming/chat - meh. Don't take part in it myself.

At least the dashboard is a lot faster now.

Do you have to switch to the NXE, or can we just stay the same as before?

I honestly don't care much for the NXE, and really don't want to change.

There's really no reason not to change. The new dashboard is far cleaner, smoother and runs MUCH faster, especially the guide.

Going back to the old dashboard on a friends 360 felt like playing an antiquated system.

For me, the SPEED of the new dashboard alone is worth the download! All of the other features are just icing on the cake.

Yep. You didn't even have to sign up to get it though. My brother installed it on my Xbox a week or so ago when he got it, and even though I was LIVE disabled for a week, I was able to sign on yesterday.

If you have a friend who has NXE, just have them bring over their hard drive and it will install on your Xbox.

Well I'm pretty sure I entered my ID correctly, but since I don't have the update yet I'm starting to second guess myself. Does anyone know if there is a way to check what you put in? My msft connect dashboard is empty...

Bullshit. I signed up for the preview, and not only did I not get in this entire time, but I still can't get the update even though apparently everyone who signed up can.

Saw the reports that the NXE was going out early, so I booted up my 360 and sure enough, there was the update message.

After sitting through the Flaming Turd video, I was prompted to make my Avatar. Granted he looks more like my self-image than my actual self...but I think it went well. But right now he feels sorta tacked on. I have no "Avatar Channel" type feature to let me see all of them running around interacting, and there's on way to make others just to screw around (I saw the Bart Simpson hair Microsoft).

Navigation is going to take some getting used to. I have an SD TV, so I can only see one and a half "tabs" at a time. Also. While the vertical navigation isn't too bad, it'd be nice if they provied some form of guide for the horizontal navigation. If I'm currently in "My Xbox", it'd be nice to have a little bar somewhere pop up and tell me what's all listed in that row (since I can no longer see all the options at once).

Another point of note: The new Friends Menu (the one reached through the dashboard nav) is pretty much useless. Only being able to see one friend at a time makes it tough to see what's all going on. They have the traditional Friends list through the guide button, but I've noticed that it feels a bit "laggy" when it loads up.

All in all, it's not the complete mess I was expecting. I wasn't able to customize the dashboard theme as much as I was in the old style, but other than that I found all of the features I normally use fairly quickly and intuitively. And that's ultimately what's most important.

On a side note: They've added the ability to remove games from history which have 0 Gamerscore and 0 Achievements unlocked. So after about a year I was finally able to wipe Virtua Fighter 5 and the Every Extreme Extra demo from my history.

It's the little things sometimes.

Re: Friends. Your friends that are online will appear at the head of the list, who you can then join in a party. Party allows you all to communicate with one another no matter what you're doing. You can also play games together.

Last night, a bunch of us got together, joined a party, launched GOW2, and communicated the entire time, even during game load, or when some of us were still doing other things and joined later. Was pretty cool.

Got it last night. Going to take some getting used to, but overall, very nice (though I wish I could just skip the avatar thing. The NetFlix streaming kicks serious ass.
