Prince of Persia may have 'significant' DLC
The DLC planned for Prince of Persia is to be of "significant value," as noted by Ubisoft producer Ben Mattes in an interview with Gamercyde (at the 19:12 mark). Mattes doesn't believe the PoP DLC will be character skins or weapons, but will be "a new story, a new experience, maybe a prequel, maybe a sequel." This is all said under the caveat of "if" the team decides to do DLC.
If the team does decide to do some DLC, it will arrive sometime next year, but the whole thing is "still in discussion." We'll worry about DLC later -- right now we're itching for the Prince and Elika to make their way onto our consoles in two weeks.

Free level pack please? Or at least a cheap one!

WE LEFT OUT A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE GAME SO YOU CAN PAY FOR IT LATER!
fuckers.
Hyams @ Nov 17th 2008 2:24PM
Or, just as likely, this is stuff they simply don't have time to make before the game releases. After all, if it's not gonna be released until 09, most likely it hasn't been made yet.
It's the DLC that's available a couple of days after release that you should be cynical about, not this.
sicsided @ Nov 17th 2008 2:27PM
Does anyone do research before they speak anymore?
DLC is something that came up during the development of the game, but didn't fit in completely, or would sabotage what they already have. So they create it on the side and then have it release later. With the resources it takes to make games now, adding that DLC onto the disc would probably delay the game another 4 months.
SHUT THE HELL UP

More precise Translation:
We finished what we had to do with the game, if it is well received we will follow it up with some DLC for the fans that demand it.
sinai @ Nov 17th 2008 3:39PM
"DLC is something that came up during the development of the game, but didn't fit in completely"
if it doesn't fit completely, then why is it a DLC for an existing game?
"adding that DLC onto the disc would probably delay the game another 4 months."
so why don't they release it 4 months later instead of nickel and diming me for every little add-on that probably should have been there in the first place?
"SHUT THE HELL UP"
no u.
but i mean if you guys are happy with DLC and wouldn't rather, you know, get it already included for free, that's your business.
acefondu @ Nov 17th 2008 4:16PM
This is why Miyamoto and Kojima and developers of high quality delay their games until they are done instead of DLC'ing us to death.
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 17th 2008 4:48PM
sinai- i agree more with you than the others...
DLC is a hundred million plus business yearly in the united states and keeps rising.
if a developer can leave something out of a game (say an extra level.. yippee), still charge full price for that game, then later release that level as a $ 5, $ 10, or more DLC some of them will do that.
these gamers believe that all this DLC is extra stuff that couldn't make it on the disc on time or something.
they are literally believing exactly what the developers are telling us, which is what they want us to hear, and not always the truth.
some DLC can fit on the 9gb disc restrictions, therefore DLC is mandatory sometimes to avoid another disc being used.
Hyams @ Nov 17th 2008 5:09PM
This isn't stuff that would be in the game, that's the point you seem to be missing though.
If they didn't offer it to us as DLC ('offer' being the keyword here), we'd never even get the chance to play it. It'd never even be made. It isn't being held back to make some extra money.
You buy the game, full and complete, and a few months later, after you've grown tired of it, the devs will have finished the new DLC. Buy it if you like, or don't.
It's like how sequals work, only a smaller scale. You may as well claim, for example, that Gears 1 should have been delayed for two years, so they could add in the new levels, improved graphics and new gameplay elements, rather than release them as a full game later and charge us another £40.
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 17th 2008 5:30PM
hyams-
so u are saying that 4 extra online maps for say halo 3, cod4, or gears cant be included on the game disc?
or the bringing down the sky DLC mission in Mass Effect could not be a part of the game? it sure is a part of the story..
its a very grey area of what is considered a completed game or not.
sinai @ Nov 17th 2008 7:01PM
Hyams, that's a crock.
For instance, Criterion offers expansive DLC about a year after the original game came out FOR FREE.
and your critical reasoning skills are a bit off. If Gears 1 was delayed for the addition of maps and enhanced graphics, they wouldn't be charging us ANOTHER $60, they'd be charging us $60 ONCE. That's the crux of the argument, that publishers put out games and then say "WOOPS, we should have put this in the game, btw, that'll be $10 plz."
DLC is welcome if it is free, but if you start charging, publishers will be tempted to hold stuff back for the extra $10 a few months down the road. It's smart business sense, but a scummy way to do business.
Haggard @ Nov 17th 2008 2:10PM
This is what DLC should be. I don't care for extra skins, weapons and maps that come out about a week after (or in the case of NFS, before) the game's release.
Or content that was already on the disk ffs.
Deeznuts420 @ Nov 17th 2008 2:16PM
damn you ubisoft, my rage will not be quelled by virtual cleavage!
baby sea tuna @ Nov 17th 2008 2:43PM
I'm really stoked for this game. I think it may be the first Ubisoft game I'm buying since 2006!
As for DLC, anyone but Rockstar, Harmonix, and Bethesda can cram it as far as I'm concerned.
Haggard @ Nov 17th 2008 4:03PM
Keep that horse armor flowing, Beth!
baby sea tuna @ Nov 17th 2008 4:13PM
I know, cause Nights of the Nine, Shimmering Isles, Mehrune's Razor, etc. did nothing to make up for that slight misstep while dipping their toes into the uncharted waters of DLC.
Chase @ Nov 17th 2008 2:48PM
It's a Ubisoft game. Its price will drop 20 dollars in two months. Then, I'll purchase Prince of Persia.
dark_inchworm @ Nov 17th 2008 2:50PM
Cel-shaded boobies? I'd fap so fast that I'd break any 60 fps cap in my way.
tmmoore_nc @ Nov 17th 2008 2:58PM
I hope it's all the platforms it's being released on. I don't want to be forced to buy a version that isn't as good as the others, if I buy the game (Which it looks like I most certainly will)
343 Guilty Fart @ Nov 17th 2008 3:01PM
How in tarnations is that dress managing to stay on her?? The slightest gust of wind and *poof* - boobies.
Zorque @ Nov 17th 2008 3:14PM
I would download my content... into her. Or something. Hang on, I don't think I'm doing this right.
Lard @ Nov 17th 2008 3:24PM
Let's just face facts.
We are going to be ass-raped by developers from now on regarding DLC.
The advent of DLC has allowed companies to release incomplete games and then charge us *again* for what should have been the finished product.
I hope DLC leads to a fucking game crash worse than the one in the 80s.
sinai @ Nov 17th 2008 3:43PM
unlikely.
you can see by the replies in my earlier post that people are actually defending - not just defending, but vehemently defending - the concept of paying for add-ons that probably should have been there in the first place.
whatever. enjoy paying $10 for an extra level that was obviously an afterthought to the game made purely for profit.
Albanian_Killa @ Nov 17th 2008 3:58PM
Nudie pack FTW!
Lawrence @ Nov 17th 2008 5:23PM
"a new story, a new experience, maybe a prequel, maybe a sequel."
Maybe it's a genuine, bona fide, electrified, 6 car monorail!
One has to wonder why Dead Space's skin packs were released. I guess at least they plan to release real DLC instead of worthless color changes.
As for DLC itself, if everyone developed for the blu-ray discs I wonder what the developers excuse would be, given the huge amount of extra space they'd have.
Can you imagine if Rock Band had actually had 5,000 in songs on the initial disc? They could charge an extra $300 and people would still buy it, since it's either pay the higher price for all of it, or pay even more to get it separately as DLC later on.
Lard @ Nov 17th 2008 5:38PM
The people in this thread who are defending this type of DLC should be strung up and flayed alive. Then have their (tiny) penises chopped off, ground up and fed to them.
