You're going to be seeing this picture circulated a lot in the coming days, so we just wanted to get out in front of it for you. Yes, the above image, which hints at new Battletoads and Jet Force Gemini games, can be found in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. But no, you should absolutely not take that to mean that any of those games are actually coming. It says as much in the image itself, but that won't stop the internet from crushing itself under the weight of its own excitement.
As recently as today, Rare talked about how its next project is going to surprise people. We're not sure that points to a lot of its franchises being revived.
... We can still hope though, right?

Who says they weren't lying? I mean.. they ARE owned by Microsoft, and we all know how MS keeps secrets underwraps.
But seriously.. you honestly don't think that Rare wouldn't take a glance at doing this?
Only things that I can even think of them making are:
-New Conker
-New JFG
-New Battletoads
-New Killer Instinct
-New Ghoulies
-New Viva Pinata
And when you look at it.. Rare releases about 2 games a year (And don't think they're shovelware because they can crank out games.. they have a lot of teams), so it would only make sense that they would have at least ONE of these for '09.

Guys, they said "next project" - singular.
Clearly:
Grabbed by the Killer ToadForce Gemini.
And now I'm going to waste the rest of my evening creating a poorly photoshopped mock-up of the box-art for that game.

I'll kinda be glad if they don't bring Battletoads back, they would probably just Crystal Skull the damn thing.

I believe they would nuke the fridge on that one.
After this laughable attempt at a fun game, there is almost no hope left in me for Rareware

I hope they don't change them too much like Killer Instinct the Card RPG and Jet Force Gemini the First Person Shooter.

How would changing Jet Force Gemini from a 3rd-person shooter (with platforming elements) to a FPS be a major change? It's just a different camera angle. Admittedly, probably would be awkward to play as Lupus in a first-person perspective.

I mean that they don't give the games the Nuts and Bolts treatment.

Rare is desperate. They haven't had a hit title since the N64 days, and now they're looking for publicity among the gaming public. I'm not saying they won't make any one of theses games mentioned above, I'm just saying they most likely won't be good.

If they're as good as they were back then, we have nothing to worry about.

I really don't understand all the Rare bashing. Are you guys just the bitter Nintendo fanboys? It seems you're not going to be happy no matter what they do.
Kameo and Viva Pinata are both every bit as good as any of the titles they released back in the days of the SNES or N64, the only difference is that they don't have the nostalgia value.
The new Banjo is also a lot of fun. The vehicles were a completely uncessecary addition, and I can understand some being upset about that. But it's still a really good game.

@EMilt
If EA can turn it around, so can Rare.
@Snowblind
The vehicles are what makes the new Banjo so good.

No Snowblind, Rare has lost it.. Whether its because of Microsoft breathing down their neck (instead of somebody that knows how to make games like Nintendo) or the fact that most (or all) of the old Rare crew left, I don't know. And if Kameo is what passes as a good rare game, then there are no good Rare games..

I fuggin' LOVED Jet Force Gemini. That'd be awesome!
Though Rare is a strange bird these days. I can't say I'm hopeful, maybe they could make some cash by selling the franchises to decent developers?

YES! That's what they SHOULD be doing. MS could farm development out. Let Behemoth make Battletoads and let Monolith make Perfect Dark.

High Voltage is Overrated, Nintendo fans are just desperate for real games and are too proud to admit SEGA is the one delivering.

I don't know about others, but i quite like the fact that the Wii is the playground of both excellent Nintendo and excellent SEGA games. My two favorite companies anyway. High Voltage just seems intent on filling the cracks (namely high quality western development, something that even i, who greatly favors east over west, need once in a while)

If any of that is true, please let it be JetForce Gemini. Seriously, that was my favorite game from that era. It has a lot of potential if it was brought to current technology.

The ghoulies line proves that it's just a joke by Rare, but of course because it's in the game it means it's true.
Also they are dropping far too many hints at KI3 for it to be a surprise.

If a sequel to Jet Force Gemini does come about, I pray that Rare makes it a multi-console release and not exclusive to one console, such as the 360 or, for mercy's sake, the Wii.
That was one of the 64's best games (there are a lot by the way).

The headline made me think that Rare was 'dropping' the gags from the game. I thought "they couldn't be that bad could they??"

Hey Rare, any hint at when we will be getting a new Banjo Kazooie game?

I personally love the one we have now. I'm addicted to that game. I know a lot of fans and reviewers are whining about the lack of pure platforming, and maybe the game could use some more of it, but I love the vehicle creation system in Nuts & Bolts. I can't even go back and finish Gears 2. N&B pulled me away from everything else. I honestly think most of the whiners aren't giving the game a fair shot.

I love the vehicle system, but I wish they kept all Kazooie's abilities :P
And just the other day, I realized how retarded a Bear with a bird in his backpack who can transform into a washing machine was. Oh the good ol' days :D

I'm personally struggling to get past the mental hurdle. I had my heart set on a new Banjo game, but Rare delivered something that isn't really Banjo game to me.
Usually I think I'm pretty good about ultimately accepting a game for what it is, but I'm finding that very difficult with this one from what I've played.
