Rumor: Gears of War 2 'Imulsion' map images

While you're waiting (and reading War and Peace) for Gears of War 2's matchmaking system to do its job, take a look at these screens of a rumored new multiplayer map for the game. It appears to contain copious amounts of Imulsion and could be en route as DLC.

Although we'd love to speculate on what the "environmental effect" (à la Avalanche or Hail) could be in this Imulsion level, we'd first like to make sure it's real. We've contacted Epic and Microsoft for comment and will update if we hear anything.

They really do need to fix matchmaking. It's the primary reason why I opt for World at War for my multiplayer fix.

Oh, and if anyone from Infinity Ward reads this comment, please consider a type of Active Reload for Call of Duty 6. kthxbi

Active reload was a small yet very innovative feature of Gears. Its simple but its very satisfying when you do it right.

Elimanation, Wingman and Flashback gametype matchmaking go pretty fast. Dont know what gametype you are playing but you should try those. I know Horde (which I usually always play with friends anyway so its not really an issue)and Players Choice do take long so thats why I dont play that one for now.

BTW, the new Assassination (now known as Gaurdian) is AWESOME! Same for Wingman. Its just small things that need to get fixed for it to be perfect. Chainsaw needs to go down when being shot at. Shotgun could be half a second faster but I'm adapting. Frags/Smoke tagged on walls has too big of a proximity IMO. And yes, please let everyone talk (alive or dead) at the end of each round!!!

Bottom line is the game is still fun as hell! I always welcome new maps and this one looks gorgeous. A rainy Raven down map or War Machine map is also welcome, EPIC. Please? Purrty, please?

I don't understand why every shooter hasn't picked up some kind of active reload mechanism, even if it's without the perfect reload that gives increased damage.

Having to actually DO something to reload your gun while concentrating on the fight at hand at the same time is so much more satisfying than just pressing a button and forgetting about it.

I completely agree that some type of active reload would be an improvement; something like the YY glitch from Halo 2 would be perfect in my eyes. When executed properly, the YY glitch allowed a player to reload significantly faster than if the entire reload animation were to play out, and good players could use the glitch to further separate themselves from less experienced players. Granted, it was a glitch, and therefore not an intentional gameplay element, but anything along the lines of an active reload that helps to widen the skill gap would be great.

I'm afraid I'm gonna call foul on this one. While the environment doesn't look too much like something ripped from the campaign areas, there is a big photoshopping mistake in image 7.

First of all, the picture shows someone playing as Skorge killing the general, but on the kill ticker below, it says beast rider. Secondly, look at the name "Beast Rider" on the ticker: see how you can see through Skorge just around the name?

I really wish this was real, but I'm having considerable doubts.

Woah, yeah I just looked at that image. It looks like a 2 year old did that part of it. Odd that they'd be so meticulous with everything else though, making it look amazing, and screw up that badly on that one.

Anyone know what the top 10 XBL games are right now? Where does COD4 or Halo 3 rank now? Bet hard earned money that GoW2 and COD5 have taken the top spots. I'm a huge Halo fan... but GoW2 has been sucking up my life. Truely awesome game!

I haven't finished the campaign yet, but are we sure these aren't just shots from sections of the campaign with the MP HUD stuff copied over top of it? The spacing of the HUD stuff doesn't look right, it's too far from the edges of the screen...

Am I the only one not having problems with Gears 2's matchmaking? It appears to be working at a reasonable speed for me.

The problem I've had the other day was when a friend and I were trying to party up and it wouldn't allow us to invite each other, and then I couldn't even get into any gametype, even solo-campaign. After 20 minutes of swearing, it finally straightened itself out.
