Stardock looking at Master of Orion, Star Control rights
Stardock keeps 4X strategy gamers' hearts aflutter with word that it's trying to get the rights to Star Control or Master of Orion. Of course, if the publisher can't get them, like what happened with its recent attempt for the Master of Magic rights, Stardock can always just circumvent and make its own franchise -- thus, Elemental: War of Magic was born.
Stardock CEO Brad Wardell tells Gamasutra that the company would base its SC or MoO sequel off the second games in the respective franchises and not the poorly received third iterations. Wardell also confirms that Stardock is currently building a second full internal development team. Given the company's release strategy, whatever game it decides to do, we won't see it until 2011 or beyond.

I'll buy SCIII (other one doesn't count) just to see the Spathi again.

These are some of the best franchises that have ever graced gaming (sans the third installment from each).
I would be shocked to see a faithful addition to either of these series. After what happened with HoMM4 and 5, I've come to expect that most sequels nowadays, especially in the 4X genre, are simply worse.

Star Control... From Stardock?!
PLEASE! I'll chip in to help them buy the license!

How's a button and a handful of lint sound?

How about a 4X game where you play as a hive of killer bees trying to wipe out fearmongering news channels?
Alien Lord @ Nov 17th 2008 6:45PM
MOO II was good, MOO III was shit, MOO IV better not be anything like MOO III *loads carbine*.
Enosity @ Nov 17th 2008 6:52PM
I would buy a sequel to MOO2 hands down if it played like MOO2. 1 and 2 were great. 3 however was a bit of a mess. Great news!

STAR CONTROL! Spathi Raiders firing the B.U.T.T. would make me giddy!

Star Control was awesome! I would definitely love to see current gen release of those games!
Star Control > Mass Effect!
The Ur-Quan Masters getting their groove on more time!

Either one would be just plain awesome.

I know Toys for Bob have been trying to get a new SC made for ages. A while ago they even created a petition to levy it to their producers.. But that was at least a year ago, so I guess it didn't get enough signatures. But from their interviews, it seemed like they would be more than willing to do whatever it took to get a new one out there for the fans.. Would be great if they were working with StarDock
On another note, anyone remember the StarDock game in development a while back, that was a medieval mmo-rts type of game? Wonder whatever happened to that.

A new game where the Zoq Fot Piq are viable as a race would be awesome.
bjbrains @ Nov 17th 2008 9:14PM
I. Love. Stardock.
Two of the best franchises ever. Fwiffo and the ur-quan forever! MoO 1/2 are almost unrivaled as well.
potato @ Nov 17th 2008 9:26PM
If Stardock makes another MoO I will *pledge* to buy the game no matter what. Seriously, that game is still bar none the best game I've ever played, and has probably chewed up a good percentage of the time I've been alive.
We must do this.
joshsisk @ Nov 17th 2008 10:17PM
OMG OMG OMG i would kill for a faithful MoO:II sequel. the actual sequel was pretty damn bad.
Courtney @ Nov 18th 2008 2:57AM
I have never, while reading Joystiq, had the sudden urge to jump up from my desk and start screaming Fuck over and over again. If it weren't 2 in the morning here, I'd think about it.
God bless you Stardock and your little dog too.
Seriously, I just want to give someone a high five right now. Fuck yes!
Covnam @ Nov 18th 2008 4:27AM
A new MoO game based on MoO II? I love Stardock even more now!
Megaben @ Nov 18th 2008 9:12AM
LAUNCH FIGHTERS!!!!!

Is it wrong that I've never heard of Star Control?
Burnt Meatloaf @ Nov 19th 2008 4:43AM
Yes!

MOO I and II are two of my personal favorite games of all time. Like that high school cutie you always wanted MOO still makes my heart flutter after all these years. Please whoever holds the rights (atari/infogrames?) sell them as you are obviously not doing anything with them.
Dralthi @ Nov 18th 2008 12:08PM
Star Control II were two of my favorite games back in the day. I'd definitely check out a new one if they did it justice (AKA = Don't eff it up).
Elukka @ Nov 18th 2008 9:41PM
Honestly? I'd rather them base a MoO4 off MoO3 than 2. There's a lot of potential in MoO3's concept.
MoO3 was plagued by a lot of dumb design decisions, but when i went back to MoO2 to play a game once, it wasn't as awesome as i had remembered. I have more fun with MoO3.
Mukcep @ Jan 15th 2009 4:50AM
"STAR CONTROL 2" much more better then all other space games.Even with old grafics 300% of gameplay garanted =)
