Totally Blizzard's fault: Boy collapses after WotLK marathon
Although most bets on real-world Wrath of the Lich King drama had good odds on it involving a dead gamer in Asia, we're sure the media will be more than happy to take its pound of flesh from an exhausted Swedish boy as the latest victim of "game addiction." The 15-year-old went into convulsions following a marathon World of Warcraft session in which he hardly ate or slept.
Doctors say the boy will make a full recovery and the child's father expressed he'll limit the amount of time his son plays from now on. That must be awful for the dad; now he has to make sure his son is eating properly and pay attention to how the boy is spending his time. Parental responsibility is, like, totally not fun.

lol, dead gamer in Asia.
hahahaahaha!
WilhelmThe1st @ Nov 17th 2008 10:33PM
And that's funny... how?
Ellianth @ Nov 18th 2008 10:09AM
now we can have another gamer run away from home when his daddy limits his game time.
DangerMouse @ Nov 17th 2008 8:36PM
And who said gamers were fat?
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Nov 17th 2008 9:48PM
Obesity isn't necessarily caused by over-nutrition: there are many other factors, like diabetes, metabolism and water retention.
I have a friend who eats junk food everyday and who looks like a stick.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 17th 2008 10:14PM
Actually Type 2 diabetes mellitus is secondary to obesity, not the other way around.
Ben Hobbs @ Nov 18th 2008 1:46AM
You can not simply create energy out of thin air, if you're fat, you over eat its as simple as that.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 18th 2008 2:44AM
It's not my fault, I'm big boned.
Zertoss @ Nov 17th 2008 8:36PM
When I was 15, I played a marathon session of Diablo 2 during which I hardly ate or slept, and I did it out in the snow with only my undies to keep me warm, and I was fine!
Kids these days.
Mohulis @ Nov 17th 2008 9:51PM
Were you wheeling your computer chair uphill in that snow? Both ways? Doesn't count if it wasn't uphill both ways.
Zertoss @ Nov 17th 2008 9:53PM
Pffft... wheels. I CARRIED it! And it was a full ATX tower, not that microATX sissy crap.
Gehodra @ Nov 17th 2008 9:56PM
Pffft... arms. I remember back when I was a boy, before they had invented arms, we had to move stuff through sheer force of will.
Mohulis @ Nov 17th 2008 9:57PM
Even better. Well played.
Kids these days are such sissies.
Morisato @ Nov 17th 2008 11:05PM
I'm glad they invented wheels... I used to carry my full atx up these stairs.

jcmschwa @ Nov 18th 2008 12:18AM
Morisato, are you saying that now you roll it up the stairs?
dark_inchworm @ Nov 18th 2008 12:28AM
I was in a reasonable amount of clothing, but I actually did partake in over 40 hours of Diablo II shortly after it launched.
Yeah...
Cal @ Nov 18th 2008 2:54AM
Back when my father worked in t'pit he had to grind 16 hours a day and didn't even level up once!
Foetoid @ Nov 18th 2008 6:32PM
@Gehodra
You sir are hilarous. Had me in tears.
kihadat @ Nov 18th 2008 7:45PM
I hope you change your icon soon.
someone @ Nov 17th 2008 8:37PM
People who get into these kinds of troubles by not eating or sleeping have some serious problems.
Yeah, the new expansion is addicting, however, you must pay attention to your body more than how fast you can get to the highest level.
brickwalker0 @ Nov 17th 2008 8:38PM
but you have to prove how cool you are somehow, right?
kingofwale @ Nov 17th 2008 8:40PM
Need to list how many hours he played.
and then we can say... Oh, I can totally beat that. :P
Lo_Opy! @ Nov 17th 2008 8:40PM
LMFAO!
bluesky_v2.01 @ Nov 17th 2008 8:40PM
Kid's weak!
Julian @ Nov 17th 2008 8:42PM
This is over the top, but i know a lot of ppl are doing this, there are a ton of ppl who got to 80 waaaaaaay too quickly.
EihBeir @ Nov 17th 2008 8:42PM
"now he has to make sure his son is eating properly and pay attention to how the boy is spending his time. Parental responsibility is, like, totally not fun."
Dude, add a gamerscore.

What a friggin' lightweight, what are feeding kids these days? As for his "rehabilitation" I have one word:
Chorewars.
j.howlett @ Nov 17th 2008 8:47PM
15 year olds should be weened enough to make sure they eat and sleep
Rhamsey @ Nov 17th 2008 9:11PM
if i see any news media trying to even remotely blame the game for this, im going to kick their ass.
FSK405K @ Nov 17th 2008 9:11PM
What a weak body he has. After just 24 hours he collapses? He would never had made it through my college experience.
Orc @ Nov 17th 2008 9:15PM
No time for gold farming Doctor Jones!
Cicadymn @ Nov 17th 2008 9:30PM
Careful dad! If you take it all away he'll run into a snowy forest without any clothes on!
Chase @ Nov 18th 2008 5:34AM
I laughed. :x
Regis @ Nov 17th 2008 9:45PM
As Swedish I read about it a few days ago in the newspaper. They completely blow it up and title it "collapsed because of video games". Then the fact that he didn't drink during the "marathon" (apparently 1 day) is a footnote.
I'm telling you, kids these days are weak. When I was in his age we could go this shit for three days with a few hours of sleep, and we never did stupid shit like dehydrate ourselves. 20 lites of coca cola and pizza and you'll be fine. Yeez, kids these days.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Nov 17th 2008 9:55PM
The guy didn't drink? Dammit, he could have almost gotten a Darwin Award.
ahsayuninew @ Nov 17th 2008 9:49PM
Some parents are serious pushovers
horngreen @ Nov 17th 2008 10:10PM
This is against natural selection. When a kid goes down because he is too dumb to eat or sleep he MUST be allowed to die. Saving him only enables him to later pass on his defective genes, not that anyone who plays marathon sessions of WOW will even get the chance for sex.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 17th 2008 10:17PM
I assume you mean sex with another human rather than himself...
PoisonedV @ Nov 17th 2008 10:14PM
This made my day, I hope to see more stories of the sort. More dead and injured WoW players is what this world needs
Dan @ Nov 17th 2008 10:33PM
1 down, 10,999,99 more to go.
Mr French @ Nov 17th 2008 10:43PM
yes, im trolling. NXE is out early. woot!
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 17th 2008 11:03PM
I just got it too after leaving a Left 4 Dead demo match. Quite surprising to say the least.
Mohulis @ Nov 18th 2008 12:49AM
I call shenanigans. :P I am getting no such NXE update.
TheE3Guy @ Nov 17th 2008 11:06PM
I laugh at people like this. I love video games, but I mean, c'mon, really? How stupid are WoW players? I go on long game marathons (most recently Gears 2) but at least I remember to eat.
danny. @ Nov 17th 2008 11:19PM
one day with no water? In a chair? Are there any other former wrestlers here that have done much worse? No water, spitting in garbage cans, running in trash bags... That's hardcore gaming.
Jacksons @ Nov 17th 2008 11:30PM
I can't believe there are people out there that think "Screw eating and sleeping, I'm going to keep playing games!" At least he's alright, but cripes, have some control!
Pedobear @ Nov 18th 2008 12:02AM
What the hell is with this add I cant get Ozzy off my screen.
Hostile @ Nov 18th 2008 12:59AM
Shouldn't Blizzard kick players if they've been online and active for more than 8 hours or something?
