Boon talks Midway layoffs, next Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat creator (kreator?) Ed Boon has come forward, labeling recent reports of Midway's Chicago branch handing out pink slips to many of the individuals who worked on Mortal Kombat vs. DC as "completely false." Last week, numerous outlets reported that the troubled publisher and developer let go of around 20 to 30 employees following the completion of both the recent cross-universe brawler and Blitz: The League II.
However, speaking in an interview with GameDaily, Boon asserts that the Mortal Kombat team specifically is still together, and is already brainstorming on what to work on next. He adds that the crew is sizing up Mortal Kombat vs. DC's performance, as "it will have a good amount to do with what features we put in the next game." Of course, this says nothing of those in The Windy City who worked specifically on Midway's sequel to Blitz, or if the company decided to have them go long all the way to the unemployment line.

Noob Saibot
I felt like a genius when I figured that out as a kid after reading the credits, lol.

Please stop using sports analogies like "go long", "touchdown", "slam dunk", etc when talking about sports games. It always comes out cringingly (not a word, but I don't care) bad.

Douche.
It's all about the puns on the 'Stiq!

It's "1st and 10" to the unemployment line for these Midway employees.
You might want to "throw a red flag and challenge" midways decision of getting laid off.
When you get your last pay check, you might want to "go for 2".

Sam Barker = n00b, and I'm not talking about the Saibot kind either...
The Punmaster is the Kietz! These were just useless. That is all.

Looks like someone forgot to tell Boon.

Well, the fatalities of this current MK are a disaster. As a fan of MK since the first iteration, spending lots of $ at the arcades and future iterations, I am greatly disappointed. I will not be purchasing MK vs. DC.

I'd welcome a 'revival' like Street Fighter IV. Go back to the roots. Heck, remake MK1 but with the playability of 2 and 3. Do it in fixed camera 3d, release on XBLA and PSN. $20. Cutout this DC pew pew. I want to like Mortal Kombat again. Last I bought was MK5 and it was starting to go downhill.

I hope they continue down the wacky crossover path to a point where it gets ridiculous.
MK vs Hanna Barbara, the exit stage left fatality would be epic.

Shepherd's Hook, ftw.

I used to sneak out the house as a kid, to go and play the original Mortal Kombat arcade at the pizzeria next to my house. I remained addicted with 2, and 3. But once the switch to 3D, it all went downhill IMO. I think they should go back 2D and add some speed to the game.

Giant Bomb's Jeff Gerstman gave MK v DC 5/5 stars. Here is the the (lengthy) review for all those interested. Also, there is speculation that the european version of the game, which is rated 16+ may be gorier. If thats the case, PS3 owners can import a copy from the UK to get their head-splodin' fix.

I have always enjoyed the MK series in all its various forms (maybe not the second movie, the first was awesome). There is something there that reminds me of the good ol arcade days, discovering fatalities before the interwebs was so much fun. So long as they maintain my favorite characters I will be playing.

I didn't know Sylar's brother made Mortal Kombat!!
Blank-Mage @ Nov 18th 2008 4:17PM
Poor bastards, all they have left is MK. And it's not going well.
Tez @ Nov 18th 2008 4:41PM
Just let the stupid franchise die, guys. Please, it's over.
refinedsugar @ Nov 18th 2008 5:10PM
Wait, the MK series is still relevant? I must have missed that fax. Oh wait, let's team them up with comic book characters.
I hate you Midway. I hate you. Okay.
Superstar90 @ Nov 18th 2008 6:11PM
His name is noob backwards, he can't be trusted.
Orionsaint @ Nov 18th 2008 7:14PM
Does Boon ever age? I remember watching MK docs in the early 90's. He looks the same!
ColossalHat @ Nov 18th 2008 9:24PM
It's because he's the one who's really winning every Mortal Kombat tournament. Which grants the winner immortality so they can defend the title in the next one.

Geico: So Easy, Ed Boon Could Do It.
I mean geez, look at that guy! He looks like he should be dragging a club or Wilma Flintstone behind him.
mikey @ Nov 18th 2008 11:53PM
I thought it was that little Tammy Tammarico guy when I first saw the pic.
Rhett @ Nov 19th 2008 11:52AM
Off Topic: This guy looks like Sylar, explains all the fatalities though.
