Yup, SD transfer speeds are way up. It took me 30 seconds to transfer World of Goo, which is 320 blocks and the biggest WW/VC game I have.

In other news:

"We may without notifying you, download updates, patches, upgrades and similar software to your Wii Console and may disable unauthorized or illegal software placed on your Wii Console to ensure that your Wii Console is operating properly and efficiently, comply with applicable laws, assist law enforcement, protect us and our customers, or prevent the use and distribution of software obtained through improper channels."

Don't know if that was always there, but it's certainly there now.

It could mean automatic firmware updates, which would make WiiConnect24 infinitely more useful (if firmware updates came more than once in a blue moon)

Probably its just legal ass-covering in their ongoing piracy fight

Yeah, I did that last night. :P I'm not actively fighting firmware or anything (though I do use the homebrew channel) but I don't want anyone sticking busted firmware onto my console. So far Nintendo hasn't done that, but it could happen. Sony and Microsoft have done it.

You know as Nintendo fans we had to put up a lot with Nintendo over the years usually in regards to them doing something really cool/almost amazing but then failing to go only a couple steps farther to really make something shine. Which to some degree I can understand because they are a business and are prone to cut corners were the can. I don't like it, but I understand it.

Then in recent years we've seen a dramatic loss of attention towards the core gamers. And again I understand that they are finding a lot of money in the casual market, so the core gamer is no longer their highest priority. I understand why they would do that. It sucks, but I understand

But it's things like this that I have real trouble understanding. Sure, I understand it so far as they are trying to stop piracy and malicious software from getting on their system; but I bet they've missing out on all sorts of profit by not giving us more legitimate updates that really should've happened a long time ago. I'm thinking mainly Hard Drive support. Or even the SD card update they have already announced, but for reasons beyond me, aren't going to implement until Spring '09. Why?

There are all sorts of Virtual Console and WiiWare games that I would love to try and are cheep enough where I will say to myself, "Why not?" But I have one problem: storage. I don't want to go through the games I've already downloaded and ask myself which one I want to play the least now. And these games that I would like to try are small enough and unknown enough for me to just figure it's not worth it at all.

I would love to try the ArtStyle games which are $6 and there are three of them last I checked. You're missing out on at least $18, Nintendo.

I would love to continue on with the rest of the Strong Bad games. I played the first and there are currently three more at $10 each. You're costing yourselves and Telltale at least $30, Nintendo.

I would love to try Lost Winds, the original Gunstar Heroes, Shining Force I & II, the Neutopia games, and Ys Books I & II. Which all together is a potential $50 or so from me.

And I can't be the only one who loses interest due to these pointless obstacles. Obstacles that are easily fixed, but haven't been fixed due to reasons beyond me. And instead of having these obstacles (that prevent me from giving money to Nintendo) removed, they give us these update that have absolutely Zero relevance to the majority of their customers.

And frankly, if Nintendo waits too long to solve this, something else will be out there that I will rather spend my money on. The only way that they can get me to buy every game that I have some interest in is by facilitating my tendency to impulse buy which is currently impeded by the inconvenience of memory management. Because frankly, I don't need to play any of those games and it's just not worth it to me to try to figure out which game I want to play least now to make room for games I might want to try, but don't know how long they will last on me.

Ok, so that was a rant.

If you can't bring yourself to take less than half a minute to copy a game to an SD card so you can download another one, you may very well need professional help. What do you do with disc based games? Do you just not play them?

I can't imagine denying myself games I want to play just because I would have to move some stuff around.

That's not my point at all.

I wasn't talking about games I "want" to play, only games that I would like to try. I made room for World of Goo by removing the first Strong Bad episode because I wanted to play World of Goo. And there are some games in the horizon like Cave Story that I probably will make room for. The ArtStyle games look cool, but they also look like they're only worth a few plays. By giving me this obstacle to purchase, Nintendo is removing my chances of an impulse buy by giving me extra time to think about whether or not I really want play them. Yes, I would love to check out these games and give their creators money, but their not so important to me that I should remove any of the current games I am happy with and play regularly. What this means is they miss out on a sale, and I miss out on a game that I was kind of on the fence about anyway.

So instead of "I can't be assed to copy games to an SD card" you mean "I can't be assed to transfer games to an SD card except every now and then"?

Well gee, thanks for clearing that up. That's totally different.

Ok, let's roll with that. Clearly, you think I'm dumber/lazier than dirt for not wanting to take the time to figure which game I care least about and transfer it to an SD card. I see it more so being a matter of cost-benefit in which these games, though they look interesting, are simply not worth the sum of time it takes to reorganize my wii memory (a configuration I am currently satisfied with), transfer files to an SD card, and then pay the fee and wait for it download.

I do see how that can seem petty. It really isn't all that much to ask for. But to me it's enough to realize that I don't really care enough to play these games. And I know that I'm not alone in my way of thinking. Which leaves the question, why does Nintendo even have this obstacle? It is clearly costing them money.

But in the long run, whatever. The I miss out on some games that look like they might be a fun diversion, Nintendo is the one who is missing out on money. And with that I realize the true absurdity of my rant: Nintendo is missing out on more than I am. So why do I let it get to me when they make updates that have zero effect on me rather than an update that would only have marginal effect on me? Well, beyond the fact that it makes no sense to me, I don't know, so oh, well.

Of course it would be nice to have more memory so developers could use more memory, but that wasn't what I was originally talking about, so nevermind.

Not having a Twilight hacked Wii(if you have a Wii) is like not getting a keyboard when you get a PC. It's very easy to do and good for you machine.

As an Australian resident with a non-hacked Wii, i am tempted to get into the Homebrew channel for that SD program to make your Wii Region Free. I'm worried about Mad World being banned.
