Heads up, hackers: PSP firmware 5.02 inbound

A small update on the PlayStation Blog could mean big-ish things for the PSP homebrew scene. SCEA's Eric Lempel reports that PSP firmware 5.02 is due soon, and that it "improves system software stability during use of some features, including the PlayStation Store." Which, as all conspiracy theorists know, is code for "We're going to break your custom firmware."
Of course, for the majority of PSP owners, there will likely be some actual improvements to system stability. No amount of firmware magicks will ever be able to fix those darn scanlines on thePSP-3000 PSP Brite, though.

Is the World getting smaller or is there just less in it?
Mark @ Nov 19th 2008 5:38PM
Stop with the stupid 'crossout' stuff. Did you not mean to say PSP 3000? Then hit the fucking backspace key before submitting.

Somebody needs hug and a biscuit!
LeadBoxx @ Nov 19th 2008 6:09PM
Really! Is your life that bad that this little of a thing bothers you so?
Haggard @ Nov 19th 2008 6:11PM
Perhaps it's that his life is in fact so good that this is the worst thing to happen to him all day.

ANTCEP @ Nov 19th 2008 5:42PM

LeadBoxx @ Nov 19th 2008 6:14PM
I love the PS Store. I have been playing Tekken 2 at night in bed while my wife reads. I wish they had gone back and put online capabilities in some of the games but its still great!

Seriously though scanlines are kinda annoying, my friend lended me his for a day and I noticed it pretty fast. Kept me from getting one, man where the hell they get their testers ??? Something like that raises a freaking redflag immediately. I guess its the PSP-2000 for me this christmas and time to retire the psp phat.

Yes Sony

Why aren't you fix the one that matters and let us watch YouTube in the PSP Internet Browser!?!
Ayrkain @ Nov 19th 2008 6:49PM

Gurbinder @ Nov 27th 2008 6:27PM

Bass Masterson @ Nov 19th 2008 7:28PM
The real question is, when will the 3000 be cracked for homebrew?
lol @ Nov 19th 2008 10:37PM
They seriously need to add some useful features like custom soundtracks. Homebrew alternatives have been impromperly implemented.
[.sm0ke.] @ Nov 19th 2008 10:55PM
I've heard that some people's PSN accounts have been banned due to custom firmware use. So if you're using custom firmware and you have a PS3, make a separate account for your PSP.

Good rule of thumb is to avoid activations. Demos, PS1 and PSP games all require activation. Themes and Videos don't.
