I think games such as RTS's or anything mature related.
Even GTA for the DS is looking slightly childish , not the grim , harsh world you see in pretty much even other GTA game made. Using a lot of gray isn't going to fix that either.
I find that any portable in this standard is never going to fully be able to master games the way that a PS3 , 360 or Wii will compared to there respective portables , well i guess the Zune doesn't really count for the 360 one , but thats another story.

I found this game to be a massive let down. The best feature of the game is effectively useless because you cant race on the tracks you make and there is no WFC. So you cant even share them online or download others.

The whole game shouts "rushed port" as opposed to a fully playtested DS game.

5/10

In that case, I sure as hell hope that Atlus looks into fixing that. My friend imported it and I tried it out... I wasn't really too happy with it. I guess I could say that I'm entirely spoiled by the PC version. Also, from what I could see, it looks like PF tracks won't be possible on the DS(which I was hoping make and have fun with).

shoot 'em up and real-time fighting games are noticeably lacking. Shooters, I think, work best on platforms with joysticks, which the DS does not have. As for fighters, I'm okay with mortal kombat clones and the like... i have no idea why Bleach Blade of Fate is practically the only fighter on the market.

This game is very buggy. There are serious collision detection problems. There are many times when you just fall through the track!

However, it is still a lot of fun and it certainly one-of-a-kind on the DS platform. Too bad they will never be able to release a patch that will fix the many bugs.

I think the type of games that won't take off or the DS will never effectively capture are FPS.

Somebody else said it, you need the analog input of a joystick, preferably two. Lets face it, aiming with buttons stinks. The touchpad does an ok job on some games, like Metroid, but you still have to take you hand off of those buttons and you also have you hand in the way.

Now, make a mouse and keyboard for the DS and then we'll talk... :-)

Oof, a shame to hear the negative feedback on Trackmania DS... I quite like TMN, but if you cant make full use of the user created content, then I don't see much future for it. :(

Regardless, I'm not sure if a Trackmania game can fill the role of a full "racing/driving game"... It has quite a different vibe to it than most games in the genre. It essentially just gives you the core racing mechanic, and that's it.

I think people who play TM expecting something to compare with Mario Kart will be sorely disappointed.

You know what I hate? The DS is such a great, versatile thing. You've got everything from NES style games to Playstation 1 quality games (early PS1, not FF9 or anything), and everything in between. 2D, 3D, and there was even that on 4D game that came out in 1653 due to a terrible accident with the time matrix plugins for the DS GBA slot......

My point being that with all this awesome potential to do anything, why doesn't the DS have more 2D platformers? The DS should have a billion of them. New Super Mario, Castlevania, The Legend of Kage 2.....Metal Slug....I know there are a few others. But why do platformers get no love?

Addendum:

Why do platformers get no love outside of Japan?

Because we all know Japan has about 45,000 games on the DS to every 1 released in NA.

The statement "text games owe their entire comeback to the ds" is a load of rubbish.

I don't think it's a load of rubbish. Before the DS, adventure games (on consoles/handhelds) were rare in NA. I agree that Japan has been publishing loads of them even before the DS (on consoles and handhelds). But for NA, the DS brought text adventures back.
