Jack Thompson pays Florida Bar $42K
Former anti-games attorney Jack Thompson has paid $42,525 to the Florida Bar, reports GamePolitics. The figure represents the Bar's cost to prosecute Thompson during his disbarment proceedings. So, not only was he disbarred, but Thompson ended up paying the people that took away his livelihood.
The real beauty in this story is how the information became public. The Florida Bar didn't leak this -- it was John Bruce Thompson himself that sent out an e-mail this morning, complaining the Florida Supreme Court hadn't yet cashed the check. Even while teetering on the precipice of irrelevance, Thompson still makes a good story.

I know that we all hate Jack Thompson, but this still sucks.
SoulBlade @ Nov 20th 2008 10:43AM
... why?
NickDynmo @ Nov 20th 2008 10:54AM
You get fired, then have to pay $42K for getting fired, paid to the people who fired you? That sucks.
Duke @ Nov 20th 2008 11:28AM
Thats the way it works when you get disbarred. You think the tax payers should pay to prosecute an officer of their courts who then abuses them? I don't. Of course, I also don't plan on being disbarred.
Roto13 @ Nov 20th 2008 11:31AM
You realize this isn't at all like some random guy getting laid off, right? He was disbarred because of his own actions. There's nothing to pity, because he's just a jerk who acted like an idiot and is now being held accountable for that.
Ryan LN @ Nov 20th 2008 12:13PM
There is a difference between getting disbarred and getting fired. You get fired when your client and you can no longer see eye to eye and he or she wants different representation. You get disbarred for serious lapses that violate the canons of ethics of the profession- and I mean *serious* ethical lapses. I know attorneys who have been convicted of Federal crimes who have their licenses. At any rate, this is so far away from sucking that you'd need a rocket just to get there- this means that he just can't fire off ridiculous lawsuit after lawsuit on his own just to get attention like a three year old setting his pants ablaze. There is absolutely nothing sucky about that.
NickDynmo @ Nov 20th 2008 12:15PM
I hereby retract my statement. I've been thoroughly educated on this matter now (pwned, if you will), and hereby apologize for my comment. I guess I didn't quite understand how it all worked.
Suck it, Jack. You're getting what you deserve.
Riley @ Nov 20th 2008 12:37PM
someone frame this, it's the rare "internet apology"
i honestly thought those were extinct
Blazur @ Nov 20th 2008 12:48PM
The only thing that sucks about this situation is that it didn't happen sooner.
UltimateQ @ Nov 20th 2008 10:21AM
Awesome. Kicking a man while hes down is wrong, but Jack proves he is not human. So kick away!
The Dark Wayne @ Nov 20th 2008 10:22AM
I'm pretty sure that's par for the course with disbarment's
Duke @ Nov 20th 2008 11:58AM
"Costs can be assessed against the Respondent when the Bar is successful in whole or part unless shown that the costs of the Bar were unnecessary, excessive, improperly authenticated." Rule 3-7.6(o)(3).
UltimateQ @ Nov 20th 2008 1:09PM
Duke, are you implying that $42k isn't enough? I agree, they should charge him $84k.
Drew @ Nov 20th 2008 2:08PM
2K should go to Rockstar.
Get it? GET IT?

Somehow I think he'll use this in his future arguments. He's going to try and set himself up as a martyr.
Roto13 @ Nov 20th 2008 11:32AM
Does this mean we can nail him to a cross?
aj @ Nov 21st 2008 1:09AM
He'll make back that money with interest as a martyr on the talk show circuit.
Bill O'Reily is probably sending a limo over right now.

Sad, sad man. He brought this crap on himself.
