PS3 Street Fighter II HD priced at $14.99

Capcom popped onto the PlayStation Blog to plug the imminent arrival of Super Street Fighter II HD Remix on PSN next Tuesday, Nov. 25, and reveal the cost of admission: $14.99. Given this news, it's pretty safe to bet on the XBLA version – which arrives Wednesday, Nov. 26 – coming in at 1200
($15), although neither Capcom nor Microsoft have announced official pricing.
As we reported yesterday, those who purchase the PS3 version of the game will gain free access to the Street Fighter Underground Remix Soundtrack, a digital album download featuring Street Fighter-inspired hip-hop tracks by artists Redman, Hieroglyphics, DJ Qbert, DJ Toure, Zion I, Mistah F.A.B. and Oh No.

You'd think Blanka would have some cash after all the electrician work he does...
michael @ Nov 20th 2008 4:51PM
Yeah, I agree. I think Blanka should pay more then 15 dollars. He is quite an electrician (a MST3K reference). I think he needs more then that.
Jake B @ Nov 20th 2008 5:58PM
The Brazilian electrician's union doesn't have that much pull, their wages aren't that high. I hear they got good bennys though, free teeth sharpening and mane grooming.
zuburi @ Nov 20th 2008 9:47PM
Only thing worse than electricians are dolphins.
(eat THAT mst3k reference!)

Seems a bit steep. Thanks, but I'll pass. The sweet spot would've been $10 dollars.
Squirtforce @ Nov 20th 2008 4:36PM
Five dollars huh? I guess that'll just be going to Arby's instead like usual.
Bruce @ Nov 20th 2008 4:54PM
It's freakn $15! Let me convice you cheap @sses that isn't isn't your normal arcade game.
-It has online play (new and near perfect netcode so you'll have unlimited replay value)
-It has online tournaments
-It has a ranking system similar to Chess. Not a grindfest like SC4
-Amazing new artwork from Udon.
-Remixes of ALL the songs from SF2.
-Gameplay tweaks that took MONTHS to test.
This game should be $20. At $15 this game is a steal. Capcom is trying to reach out to the casual gamers at $15.
Noshino @ Nov 20th 2008 5:07PM
Bruce, actually, add to your list "GGPO support"

Thats the difference between a 5 dollar footlong or not eating for a week!
Squirtforce @ Nov 20th 2008 5:52PM
It takes you a week to eat a foot long?! WHO ARE YOU? Homer Simpson?!
Remember, because he wouldn't throw that long party sub away even because it was rotten...? Downvote me plz.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Nov 20th 2008 6:01PM
Confirmed: Bruce is a plant from Capcom. Jointed Joystiq today, making only two posts in this blog post, both supporting Capcom and the price tag.
DangerMouse @ Nov 20th 2008 6:07PM
I haven't decided yet. I love street fighter, but $15 for another version of a game I've owned 3 times already is too much. Yeah, it's shinier, and has online play, but it's still the same game.
I probably would've caved 2 or 3 months ago, but there's too much shit out there right now to be bothered with this.
Bruce @ Nov 20th 2008 6:23PM
LOL. I'm not from Capcom. I'm just appalled you guys think this game is worth the same as those 15 minute arcade games. I'm just supporting Capcom for remaking this classic and then adding online. You young-uns just don't understand, back in the day our SFs was the equivalent to your Halos of today. If we support remakes like HD Remix then other companies will jump ship and start making remakes instead of spamming WW2/Space Marine shooters.
KarlW @ Nov 20th 2008 6:35PM
Well, it's a cent cheaper on the PS3, if that helps at all.
Jack @ Nov 20th 2008 6:52PM
Its also has gimped sprites.
And theres no such thing as near perfect netcode for a online fighter.
Noshino @ Nov 20th 2008 6:57PM
go and try GGPO yourself
D_Average @ Nov 20th 2008 7:26PM
This is easily the best digital deal in history. Anyone who passes is obviously a socialist who would rather play Primal Rage.
BxGT @ Nov 20th 2008 4:34PM
15 dollars, count me out.
Squirtforce @ Nov 20th 2008 4:42PM
That money could be better spent on the shitty new metallica cd!!!!
BxGT @ Nov 20th 2008 4:45PM
Death magnetic was ok, but what does that have to do with street fighter?
Squirtforce @ Nov 20th 2008 4:48PM
The song "Broken, Beat, and Scarred" is about Sagat. DUH.
acefondu @ Nov 20th 2008 4:56PM
Agreed, for $15 you can get the PS2 SFII Anniversary collection. The online play is the only attraction. I've played this game too much anyway.
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Nov 20th 2008 5:15PM
@ Squirtforce
It took me a bit of Wiki'ing but I see what you did there.
You get 120 internetz for awesome joke minus 20 in-joke/obscure fan reference penalty.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Nov 20th 2008 6:02PM
Metallica is obscure? What the hell...
Hotrod @ Nov 20th 2008 6:02PM
Seriously, the only people I have heard that bashed Death Magnetic we're the younger kids at work. No surprise, the new generation is full of a bunch of snatches.
They say Load and Reload sucked, failing to see that they were a great evolution of a great band, that had very memorable songs and great melodies.
Now go along and listen to Panic at the Disco. Don't forget to remove your piercings before swiping in to work.
BxGT @ Nov 20th 2008 6:06PM
Well said man, im listening to master of puppets album as we speak.Fucking amazing
Squirtforce @ Nov 20th 2008 6:07PM
I don't think I need to rattle off a bunch of credentials to you, except to say that I'm extremely, extremely old, too old to be posting on a videogame blog in the comments section. And who the hell is Panic Disco?
Hotrod @ Nov 20th 2008 6:19PM
@Squirtforce
I also feel a little too old to post on a video game blog heh :-)
In my defense, I love these AOL sites. I started out reading just engadget, later to find out about their great sister sites, AutoBlog, TUAW, Joystiq etc. So I visit most of them at least once a day.
SimbaDogg @ Nov 20th 2008 7:23PM
yeah, i was thinking about getting this sometime down the line. but for 15 bucks? they can kiss my ass. i think i spent 30 bucks on it new for super nintendo back in the day, and to think that after 15 years, even though its a "turbo hd" update, its only gone down 50% in price. F that
AoE @ Nov 20th 2008 9:02PM
@Hotrod,
I'm 30... is that old enough to not be one of the kids and still bash that POS album? I can't blame you for wanting Metallica to not suck... but face it, Death Magnetic is what an album sounds like after a band has sold out, lost it's soul, gone to group therapy, and decided they needed some more cash. The album was clearly made by a band that is no longer in it for the music, but just for the money. That it gets compared to early Metallica is one of the most insulting things I can imagine. Take off the fanboy headset for a moment, give the album a serious listen, go back and listen Master of Puppets or And Justice for All and then try to listen to Death Magnetic again without vomiting... bet you can't do it.
BxGT @ Nov 20th 2008 9:06PM
Your right about that but sounds change, almost every band has changed since then. The only band that sounds remotely close to what they used to sound like is megadeth.
Kamizar @ Nov 20th 2008 9:31PM
Mechanix > Four Horsemen...
chispito @ Nov 20th 2008 10:43PM
I mostly listen to indie music. Metallica is nice and all but I never really forgave them for all that Napster BS. It's like they jump started all of the RIAA's current practices. Plus, singing really poorly written lyrics in a really tough voice doesn't work in my view. Then again, I'm kind of over metal (hence the indie preference). Sorry, I guess I wasn't adding anything constructive to the music conversation here.
As for the price point of the street fighter game, it seems on the threshhold of being overpriced to me. The graphics don't impress me a whole lot, so I'll say the game is probably worth it if the online play is solid. It would be funny and tragic if this ended up eclipsing SF4 in online play, and I could see that happening if it successfully captures the core SF2 gameplay. There are probably a lot of fans who never really cared for the transition of fighters to 3D.
samfish @ Nov 20th 2008 4:35PM
That's about $5 bucks more than I was hoping to pay...but whatever. I'll still buy it.
jumpshot @ Nov 20th 2008 4:38PM
I agree with boobies. I mean Samfish.
Vidikron @ Nov 20th 2008 4:47PM
Agreed. I was hoping for $10, but even at $15 I don't think I can resist.
zero2dash @ Nov 20th 2008 5:03PM

$15 isn't a bad price for online ST

o yeah, almost forgot add me on PSN "SuMtOnE" so ya'll can have a good match =)
Rollins @ Nov 20th 2008 4:39PM
Honestly, given the amount of time it must have taken to redraw everything and the attention to detail that's been given to both graphics and game balance, I can't say that asking $15 is unreasonable of them.
Not sure if I'll actually buy it, though.
chispito @ Nov 20th 2008 10:46PM
You know, really, it's not HD art. It's SD artwork uprezzed and smoothed out with gradients and simple shading. It works well enough, but it could have been so much betterh.
kaneda @ Nov 21st 2008 9:45AM
Are you sure it isn't HD? I was under the impression that the sprites were all vector. Of course they would probably rasterize them to not have to rebuild the engine from scratch, but I would have though they'd raster them in at least 720. Oh well. must be for space on XBL.
If you aren't convinced that it is a significant improvement in quality, check this

The second picture is what it looks like now. Check out the arms. Those are the easiest difference to see, imo.
Crusty Magic @ Nov 20th 2008 4:40PM
The quality of the game will ultimately decide whether I pay that much for it.
The sweet spot for arcade games should be 10 bucks.
AoE @ Nov 20th 2008 9:04PM
A sweet spot implies that there are outliers however... and if you look at the total list of arcade games... most are $10, which would make the sweet spot $10 already ;)
joeybeast @ Nov 20th 2008 4:43PM
they finally smart up and just price it 15 bucks instead of asking us how much we are willing to pay.
