I remember when I first had achievements on PS2. They were still called Skill Points...

Even when Sony finally started the trophy system, I didn't really care about it until I played Resistance 2. 4 more trophies to go!

Unfortunately, with my newfound addiction, I'm more reluctant to purchase great games such as valkyrie chronicles, because of it's lack of trophy support. Damn it. That was going to be my next game.

I'm also unhappy about games like uncharted in which I did everything that would have earned me all the trophies... before trophies were supported. =\

And I know I'm being biased, but there's something about winning trophies with the ps3 that feels more satisfying then points with the 360, because of the different types of trophies. I'd rather earn a "gold trophy" for beating resistance 2 at superhuman difficulty, than earn a lot more achievement points. If it's just about points, then it would look like I've done very little since i just started. But if ppl actually check my profile, they can easily see the silver and gold trophies i've earned without having to look through the list of achievements to see if I accomplished anything difficult. No?
Well, that's just my opinion. Maybe I described 360 achievements wrong.

anyone else feels the same way?

I also like the trophy system more than the Xbox points. Just got a platinum trophy last night for World at War.

That being said, your an idiot if you don't buy a game your interested in because it lacks trophy support. Valkyria Chronicles is a good game. I'm playing through it right now.

Trophies and gamer points are fun to have and unlock, but at the end of the day, the only person who cares about the size of your e-penis is you.

Easy for you to say. You got your platinum trophy.

Exactly - I care. I just don't want the same thing that happened with uncharted. I unlocked everything, and would've earned the platinum trophy had it been available. You know, earning platinum trophy is not easy, and it probably felt good when you finally pulled it off. I want my trophies! =\

It doesn't make me stupid. Besides, with all the good games just released, I need any excuse I can come up with to save money.

I don't want to set the world on fire...

Not like Bethesda will patch trophies into Fallout 3. Or DLC (on the PS3, at least). Or, you know, bug fixes...

I'm a software developer myself, and I'd be ashamed to say that if I pumped out the crap that Bethesda does.

I feel ya. Fallout 3 has frozen my 60GB more times than I'd want to count. After deleting the ginormous cache file it puts in the game data folder, it'll act right for a few more days.

However this makes me wonder if it was just rubber stamped by Sony QA to make the same ship date as all the other platforms since it was such a big release.

End of the day, Bethesda sucks at coding and their game engine is showing its age. It'd be nice if they bothered to patch anything, ever.

Good. Now if they would only start requiring trials on all of their downloadable games like XBLA does, that would rock! It would be equally nice if both systems required all game manufacturers to release demos of all their disc based games as well. Even if it was just a timed demo that cuts off in 30 minutes or something like that. Anything so we can stop buying games with little or no info on them.

Problem with demos is that they require extra resources and time...and if not well crafted, they can changed the mind of someone that prior to playing the demo was actually planning to buy the game

...A demo is a portion of the actual game, with maybe some differences. Usually if the demo doesn't please you, then you wont like the full game.

I think you are mistaken because that is not always the case, and even when they are, sometimes the demo is based of an old build, like it was the case with Motorstorm PR.

Like I said, demos, unlike many think, are not as easy to pull off, not only because of the extra resources, but because it is also hard to pick which part of the game to let the player play

Requiring Demos for all games will simply clutter things up on both XBLA and PS Store.........didnt MS REMOVE stuff from the marketplace to clean things up??

Not from what I've seen. All XBLA games have their own sub sections that now say "Buy game" and "Play Trial Version". Also, there's a whole section dedicated to demos.

Bad idea, imo. Sure it creates a standard, but we've seen games that simply weren't made for Achievements have some pretty pointless Achievements shoe-horned in, making the very title a misnomer

It will be interesting, however, to see if they just start cloning Achievements as Trophies, with only minor variations to accommodate the differences in the systems

Why would they put different achievements/trophies in the games? That sounds like more effort for no reward. Unless they consider the fanboy arguments of which system has the best achievements/trophies to be a reward.

Oh I can't wait until that day! The flame wars that would arise. At the very least, we can start a which-system-has-the-hardest-achievement war. I'd say Xbox, with beating Perfect Dark Zero on Dark Agent difficulty setting. Talk about impossible, (Seriously... and 7 Day Survivor pale in comparison).

@aggie: Notice all three games I alluded to are exclusives. Until the PS3 comes out with something harder, PDZ on DA is definitely the hardest.

Additionally, as Sack said, Sony is trying to get their own unique trophies in multiplatform games. I guess this could potentially become another purchase differentiator, with reviews saying how PS3 GTAV has the receive-50-blumpkins ("Who needs a garden hose?") trophy while 360 has the earn-$1000-selling-sausages-made-from-your-enemies-intestines-and-meat achievement ("Revenge is a...disgusting dish"). Can you say not coming out in Australia?

What I just don't understand, is why did they have to try so hard with some sort of achievement system. I mean there's 4 different sets of trophies to earn. Why not just have one category. I would rather say,

"I have 178 trophies."

rather than

"I have 14 Platinum trophies, 24 Gold trophies, 16 Silver trophies(etc.)"

It just seems like it would be annoying to keep up with.

do YOU keep up with it???

I mean really........is your ePenis that important where you have to know HOW many of each you have ALL the time??? Dont various 360 Achievements hold different weight as far as score goes??? Sony isnt TRYING to Copy the 360.......the PC had Achievement like system first........then the PS2 had it with various games........MS simply built on an Idea.......same as they have done since the beginnings of the company......you HAVE heard of MS-DOS right??

Uhh.. ok? The point being is they are there for a reason. That's cool if you don't care about earning trophies, but don't try and tell someone they're (from what I understood) wrong, for caring about a feature that is INTEGRATED INTO THE GAME AND CONSOLE.

Gawd, quit trying to defend the damn thing rofl.

Isn't that the whole point of the Level thing?

Each trophy you get earns you X amount of points which adds to your level, then says how many overall trophies next to it.

Right now I'm level 6 (3% of the way to level 7) with 190 trophies.

No, they haven't and it's extremely frustrating. I would really like to own RB2. As for the drums, I personally like them quite a bit, particularly after I receives my MIDI/USB cable, downloaded the software, and was finally able to tune them to my liking.

I based my purchase of GHWT on being able to enjoy both games with minimal equipment. Guess I was dumb I rely on false promises.

about freaking time. Sony has been losing so much money and all their titles have as well because of this. If they actually went back and added them to games as well they would make so much profit, the nimrods. As a ps3 owner their handling of this really pisses me off. At least they are getting the ball rolling now. uhg.

losing money because games didnt support Trophies???

I doubt its THAT significant.......because most Trophy Whores Rent the games to get trophies and send/take them back...

that is with the exception of Games from the PS Store......

I'm not gonna pay $60 to play a game JUST for TROPHIES........I dont BUY a game unless I can play it for hours on end and I like the concept......trophies or not....

I have about plenty friends who do, and I also would have. there are a lot of games I "don't" have money for that I won't buy because it wont actually gain anything on my account, nothing to really show for it.
And I was talking about old sales, games that are getting on in age and didn't get picked up cuz they were 60$ and other games overshadowed them will now get picked up.

Why is sony so stupid? Why are they waiting so long to make trophies a requirement in all games?

If I was in charge of Sony I would have made trophies a requirement from day one. I know people that have bought 360 games just because of the achievements. Sony knew achievements were a big thing, so why didn't they implement them in the first place?

Another thing is why didn't PSN have all the features Xbox live had from day one? You, a friendlist that you can access from anywhere. And why didn't they pack the PS3 with a headset? Yeah bluetooth headsets are cheap now a days but most people wont bother to go buy one.

I'm not a Sony hater nor am I a fan. But how did they fuck up so bad? In terms of of online service there is no excuse for it being as bad as it is. They had Xbox Live as a stencil. All they had to do was fucking trace.

Sorry if their are any typos, lol my fingers are cold.

People actually play games they don't like just to get achievements this generation. Don't get me wrong, I know achievements and trophies are added bonuses to some people but you guys go overboard saying that Sony fucked up and you won't buy a game without achievements.
