Interesting stuff. I'm really curious to see what kind of direction the DSi takes from here on out. If it turns out to be really successful, I can see us still waiting for the true successor to the DS through 2010 and beyond.

On the other hand, if the DSi remains a niche in the overall DS-owning population, then we may see the true successor to the DS in 2010, and if the DSi does really poorly, then even in 2009.

It's going to be interesting to find out just how much life support Nintendo gave the DS with the DSi's new features, like the camera and music playback, despite of how tacked-on they seem.

Hey, that's great. Good for them. Let's hope someone important makes use of DS/DSi carts, too. It certainly was neat back when Game Boy Color games were backward-compatible.

It see it more along the lines of Game Boy Color games that were forward-compatible - the Zelda Oracle series, for one, with the Advance Shop that you could only enter on a Game Boy Advance.

Okay, so what's supposed to be the difference between a DS and a DSi cart? Capacity? Because don't the current DS carts allow up to 256MB?

More like it's going to recognize if it's in a DS or DSi XD

Hmm...but what difference would it make whether the DSi cart is in a DS or a DSi?

Also, I wonder if Nintendo's going to use the DSi to phase out the DS Lite... thoughts?

awesome! the way i see it is that now that the DSi can run homebrew (i think it can. can it?) people MIGHT NOT be so shy as to buy a DSi. .....maybe. depends if ninty releases batteries for longer play time. i mean come on! it's not like people don't already know how to remove and screw around with the battery! come on ninty! DO IT!

If you look a little around the internet, you'll quickly find replacement batteries for the DS and DS Lite. They're the official ones too.

You don't see them in shops, but they're out there for wholesalers.

Remember how in Pokemon Gold & Silver you could play it in the old Game Boys instead of Game Boy Color? Yeah they're probably planning something like that.

Myself, lately I've been getting the feeling that there's a sort of desperate desire to find SOME redeeming quality in the DSi release. It's like, us DS devotees really, really want to find SOME reason to want to buy the DSi but just quite haven't...yet.

I don't think Nintendo is going to phase out the Lite, at least as long as the DSi isn't quite the hit they'd hoped. But the DSi is still very new and hasn't been released everywhere so, hey, who knows? I do know that many people dislike the loss of the GBA slot, the lack (so far) of homebrew support (I think that may change), and the region locking.

But it seems to me to be boiling down to this; if someone somewhere and somehow comes up with some super compelling reason to want, nay NEED a DSi to fully enjoy a gaming experience on this platform then the DSi will take off like wildfire. Until then, all bets are off, IMO of course.
