Got my code hour ago and honestly I'll probably end up giving it away. Pretty much the only reason I have a PS3 is for blu-ray movies since the 360 gets to play all the games. I'm not excited about Home at all.

Well, look at that, I got an invite. I was never interested in Home before, but I might as well try it out. Downloading now, only 77 MB.

And it's... OK. Just a chat interface with avatars right now. And there's really not much to do; it's nothing like an MMO. What are the future plans for the service?

well, I'm one of the suckers who actually purchased the Core Subscription and I haven't received a beta invite. I wish I could get my money back, Qore is WORTHLESS. You get 4 previews a month and one annoying commercial that constantly pops up 20 times while you are trying to watch those 4 previews.

Can someone tell me if Home replaces your entire system or is it something you click into.

In its current form, its something you click into, like if you were gonna start a demo or something.

Wow, what a waste of effort on Sony's part. They should just give up this lame idea already

The NXE is a new interface, it makes everything faster and simpler. This seems to be the exact opposite, I guess if you want a chat room, it's something.. but personally I prefer the friends list, and windows messenger.

I agree. After playing around with it for a bit, Home is the most inefficient way to do anything on your PS3 except waste time. What demographic are they trying to appease with this?

You guys can choose to look at it like that if you please. Home will be the wave of the future for social interaction in consoles. You can't really judge the entire value of the service as a whole from an open beta entry. You kind of hae to look at everything as a whole and see what the potential is for something like this on consoles.

The NXE and all that is great when you already have a list of friends to play games with. Home is going to allow you to interact with new friends and then launch into any game with them. It's essentially an open world sandbox environment with things to do by yourself to immerse into the world, play mini games and arcade games with old friends and new people and whatever else you want to do. Sure on Live you can chat with someone you know or launch into a game you both have but on Home you can activities together in a co-op environment.

When you think of Home you kind of have to think about what it is capable of and what it will become rather than simply what is right in front of you right now. Honestly the experience is pretty polished right now as well.

The XMB is what exactly? It's essentially a prettier (Vista) to the older less pretty (XP) dashboard interface. You can't even compare the NXE to Home because they are completely different things. It's arguable that the NXE has made the dashboard more efficient and beauty is really in the eye of the beholder when compared to the older interface. However, you have no choice but to use the NXE if you play your 360 online. Comparing Home to the NXE would be like comparing an update to the operating system in your computer (Vista) to a free social networking site like myspace. Except in this example myspace would only be available on a rival platform like OSX or Linux. Understand the difference?

Is it possible to create an avatar that doesn't look like a serial killer version of myself? I just started playing with Home and I cannot seem to find a way to this.

U don't automatically hear everyone you have to walk up to them or be within range of hearing them.

I can't believe that some people aren't willing to try it. It's free. When it's released (which should be soon it's at 1.00) just try it. It's fun to hang out with friends see how they designed their space and meet people. It's also a great business model for Sony to recoup some of the money going to PSN with micro transactions inside of home. I am more inclined to purchasing things in Home than paying a monthly service fee (It is the reason I never purchased a 360 or World of Warcraft).

Anyone else finding that the stress test is failing? Got my invite and installed, but it keeps hanging up on the initialising phase (which is spelled wrong, by the way... maybe that'll be fixed once it's out of beta) and then i get a "Network Error The connection to the server was lost D5027"

Even funnier they actually spell it both ways - with an "s" and with a "z" at different points in the loading screen
