If you needed further proof that we're quickly approaching the day when robots will outperform humans in all our endeavors, you may want to turn your attention to a tech demo for the Guitar Hero-playing "Cythbot", which we've posted after the jump. Using a light-measuring camera and six pneumatic "fingers", the Cythbot can strum its way through Guitar Hero's more difficult songs with terrifying accuracy -- check out the Expert run through Living Color's "Cult of Personality" in the embedded video.
In a recent write-up of the robo-shredder, Wired compared Cythbot to the chess-playing supercomputer "Deep Blue", which toppled World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov in 1996. We'd like to see the Kasparov of Guitar Hero, Chris Chike, take on the Cythbot in a battle for the fate of humanity -- though we're not certain that Mr. "I scored 100 percent on Dragonforce" isn't, in fact, also a robot.

It's a shame this poor robot wastes it's time on Guitar Hero when everyone else has moved on to Rock Band and Rock Band 2... Proof enough that machines ARE NOT superior to most people.

Instead of wasting time playing games and posting on a gaming blog, why aren't you out there curing cancer yourself? Stop depending on robots and robot manufacturers!

Seriously, robots like this will be putting the automotive manufacturing factory workers of tomorrow out of work, assuming that they still have companies to work for in the future.
And playing Guitar Hero on their Robots Local 186 contract mandated coffee breaks.

Right, because robotics has so much in common with pharmaceutics and agricultural biology.

I recently saw a video in which a robot plays The Flight of the Bumblebee on a Clarinet very quickly. It was impressive, but it squeaked really bad two or three times.
TAKE THAT, ROBOTS!

So is the computer smart enough to know when to activate star power?
Also, Cult of Personality was cool - but let's throw Raining Blood, One or one of the idiotic boss battles at it and see what happens.

wouldn't it have been WAY easier and cheaper to just wire/solder connections to where the buttons are instead of this complicated robot arm thing? You could probably just enter a string of timings and program 100% perfects for every song so you don't need the camera, maybe strip the guitar to the bare electronic minimum and have a little usb box that connected to system of choice, a memory card/flash chip to store songs or add new ones.

I think we all know what this means. Epic duel between Chris Chike and The Machine. John Henry style.

And this is why Guitar Hero kinda sucks. It takes no imagination or creativity at all. It's just memorizing a series of button pushes, and once you've done that you've mastered the game.
A monkey could learn to be good at Guitar Hero, if given a piece of fruit after repeating the proper button sequence.
