Happy 3rd birthday to the Xbox 360

By now, we should hope you know the drill: Has it been a good 36 months for you? What do you hope for in the next 12? What are you afraid of? Well, besides, you know, the obvious.

a great 36 months. Best game console to own this gen, period.
MillRecover @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:08PM
Well, I certainly like it. Make a wish, Microsoft!
Chris Are @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:30PM
I'd totally agree with you (it being the most intelligent console to buy) if only it had Bluray. That was the deciding factor for me when choosing between the the 360 and PS3. That's the only thing MS did wrong w/ this console, in my opinion. Otherwise it has kicked the PS3's ass.
ogvor @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:42PM
Despite mine RRoDing twice, I'd agree, best console to own, so far atleast.
As someone who owns all three, I find myself going to the Xbox 360 the most, making the RRoD problem all the more annyoing; I wouldn't be quite so pissed if my Wii or PS3 died because I just don't use them as much.
Marius @ Nov 23rd 2008 5:11PM
I think i just threw up a little
Kizzle @ Nov 23rd 2008 5:27PM
Absolutely. Despite the PS3 finally getting its shit together a bit this year, the 360 still blows it away.
And the Wii isn't even worth mentioning, really.
reign-♥-of-♥-love @ Nov 23rd 2008 9:11PM
agreed. i was waiting launch night in 05 to get mine with cod2 and pdz, and 3 rrods and a bad disk drive later its still the most ballin' console ever.
fwacce @ Nov 23rd 2008 11:30PM
Well, since you said 'period' at the end, it must be a fact.
Joe @ Nov 24th 2008 12:23AM
indeed!
Stew @ Nov 24th 2008 3:03AM
Sorry, PS3 is the best console to own. Isn't it now time for Microsoft to prematurely launch the followup and drop support for 360 overnight?
Chris Are @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:32PM
Apparently I hit the wrong "reply"... disregard that Millrecover.
ogvor @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:43PM
I hit the wrong replay as well! Arg!
Haggard @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:55PM
No, neither of you did. The comments system just enjoys fucking with your mind
BananaBoat @ Nov 23rd 2008 4:38PM
Yeah Microsoft made a huge mistake when they didn't implement the then-unfinished Blu-Ray spec (not to mention that Blu-Ray probably wasn't even being manufactured at the time) into their console.
While my launch 360 has yet to RROD (fingers crossed) I think that the 360 was a good learning experience for them. Instead of having the mindset that anything and everything can be fixed with revisions after the fact, I believe that the 360's sucessor will be a sturdier machine because of their flub this generation.
Thanks for 3 years of memories thus far Xbox 360, hopefully you've got another 2 or so in you.
Chris Are @ Nov 24th 2008 1:14AM
I knew everyone would vote me down for that. God forbid someone actually say something remotely negative about the 360. Grow up.
arrrgh @ Nov 24th 2008 3:39AM
no chris. 360 has its flaws and they are obvious. as does ps3 and the wii.
you got voted down because you're an idiot.
ice~ @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:09PM
And tonight I make sweet love to my elite in celebration of my one and only loves birthday, my (se)Xbox360!!! XBOX WILL NEVER DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
eNrique @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:19PM
ammmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Ever heard of the 3 RRoD(among other things)???
joeymoto @ Nov 23rd 2008 4:08PM
Ermmm, Ice...
I think I put too much viagra in your coffee today... sorry
DCBlack @ Nov 23rd 2008 5:51PM
I hear the 360 is a real screamer in the sack.
Mrblonde @ Nov 23rd 2008 6:07PM
That's not what the disc tray is meant for ice.
ice~ @ Nov 23rd 2008 8:11PM
I'm the best case of 360 fanboyism at it's worst :/ so mentioning those red ring things that u speak of isn't really a safe thing to do buahaha |=]
Phoenix @ Nov 23rd 2008 11:01PM
Hey, just use protection to keep from getting that red ring.
I hear it's deadly.
ice~ @ Nov 24th 2008 12:07AM
Condoms can't protect u from the fierce burn of that dreded ring of fire, the rrod, I'll bet they don't teach u that in health class! my only adcice to avoiding it is: "absenence is key kids"

Happy third birthday 360...what better way to celebrate than putting launch 360s out of warranty.
Yeah cheap shot I know, but right now im worried as my 360 is very sick at the moment, and was a launch unit.
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:11PM
You could've manually fried it before 19th...
Haggard @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:56PM
I'm having an image of a desperate man cooking up his 360 on the stove right now.
Mrblonde @ Nov 23rd 2008 6:06PM
Here are some tips to break it so you can get a new one =): http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/articles/932099/breaking-the-360-video-feature/videos/broken360_111808.html
MikeO. @ Nov 23rd 2008 11:09PM
My launch 360 is still running strong... sure it occasionally makes a weedeating noise when booting GTA or any game made by Bethesda, but I would never take a Wii or PS3 over it.
Not fanboyism, I owned a PS1 and a PS3 and my share of Gameboys in the day... Microsoft has just blown me away this generation. I'm not looking back.
Foetoid @ Nov 24th 2008 3:17AM
My launch Wii is still going strong :P
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:10PM
I'm gonne cheer for MS even though my 360 RROD'd today.
343 Guilty Fart @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:38PM
Hey, me too. I was in the middle of a Halo match last night when I got the E47 error code. Luckily I have my warranty from Best Buy and got a new one. That's the 3rd one I've had to return, the warranty is the best thing I ever bought. Still my favorite console.
giantenemycrab @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:10PM
The 360 has been my favorite console this gen. Just about every game that I've wanted to play has been available on the 360. BTW, my launch console is still chuggin' along.
OMGOMG @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:50PM
That's not possible. Internet told me so.
Esat Dedezade @ Nov 23rd 2008 7:04PM
My launch unit is still going strong, apart from the odd disc tray stick :)
Foetoid @ Nov 24th 2008 3:15AM
My launch Wii is still going strong :P
Farseer (GDI) @ Nov 24th 2008 9:36AM
Likewise. My launch 360 is still going strong, and it sees daily use.
Between streaming music and movies from my server and playing games (and now even streaming Netflix movies - which seriously rocks), the 360 has been seen more use than any console I have ever owned.
Duke @ Nov 24th 2008 10:51AM
We got it the first time you said it foe.
My year old Wii is still going strong too. I guess the 6 hours it's been used hasn't harmed it.
Dave @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:12PM
I'm afraid the PS3 might eclipse the XBOX360 :( lawl.
Shadsy @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:13PM
I've only had my 360 for about a year and a half (July 07), but I love it. The D-pad could be tighter, but the controller is probably the best dual analog setup available right now. All it needs it Timesplitters 4 and I'm set.
Mr Khan @ Nov 23rd 2008 4:27PM
Timesplitters 4 is going to Wii, or so Free Radical has hinted
Shadsy @ Nov 23rd 2008 6:22PM
It's gotten a lot of coverage in PS3 magazines too, so it'd be weird to rule out the 360.
Markez @ Nov 23rd 2008 6:36PM
Truly a terrific series.
Trickob @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:14PM
that means it'll be three years next month since I got out of the retail business, yay!!!
Also, here's hoping that I get a 360 for Christmas this year...
MillRecover @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:18PM
@ Trickob
Don't expect too much.
Santa will be too busy playing Left 4 Dead
to give out presents this year.
Coal 4TW.
halo 3 sucks. @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:17PM
Does this mean that the 3 year RROD cover is over? I bought my elite in 07, it got the RROD, got a new one, and this one broke last night. Help?
Jerk Face @ Nov 23rd 2008 3:39PM
It's three years from the manufacturing date on your specific 360, dog.
Roto13 @ Nov 23rd 2008 4:26PM
Not the manufacturing date, the purchase date. But yeah, any non-launch consoles should still be covered.
ill trooper @ Nov 23rd 2008 4:47PM
Yeah, all I thought of when I saw the title to this post was "Wow, does this mean I'm in or out of the 3-year RRoD protection?"
Still curious about that.
My launch day one died, the replacement died, and I'm cruising on my third... Still hangin' in there. Total noisy junk, proprietary bullshit periphs, but still the best choice for a gamer. You just should be without one.
