Fable 2 DLC takes heroes to 'Knothole Island'
Free-floating
news, everybody! Lionhead Studios has revealed the first downloadable content pack for its dichotomous role-playing adventure, Fable 2. The "Knothole Island" pack introduces an island encased in snow, it's only hope for warm resolution resting on the shoulders of your swashbuckling hero. Or obese, mace-wielding woman.
The whole Knothole pack (detailed after the break) promises new quests, "wondrous" items and "bizarre" characters for a fee of 800
-- that's ten America bucks. If you don't have any of those to spare, you might want to look into the additional (and free!) DLC pack that promises "a show of gifts, including Knight's Boots, Assassins Gloves, a special Weight Loss Potion, collectible silver book and more." You'll also need it to play co-op with anybody who downloaded the Knothole pack (though you won't be able to partake in the new quests without downloading it yourself).
Expect the content to hit Xbox Live Marketplace in "mid-December."

Oh well, I hope I can get 3 more hours of this GOOD yet short game.
ScottG13 @ Nov 24th 2008 2:55PM
I'm probably on board with this. A great game. Sounds like a few hours of random fun.
Spartacus @ Nov 24th 2008 4:12PM
Man, I hear this a lot, but my experience with Fable II so far (my 360 rrod'd, so I'm a little late in playing it) is in the range of 30 hours and I have more things to do now than ever. I'm guessing I'll be "finished" with the game around the 50-80 hour mark depending on how much side questing I do.
Short compared to Oblivion maybe, but hardly a short game.
Marty @ Nov 24th 2008 1:28PM
Hey, she's not obese - you do have to put those Strength points somewhere, though.
Russ @ Nov 24th 2008 7:35PM
That is so damn true! After beating it once with my angelic male character, I went through and played it with at bad ass, uber-evil, hot chick who quickly got very ugly.
Ordeith @ Nov 24th 2008 1:28PM
I hope they can get a patch or two our first!
Vladeon @ Nov 24th 2008 4:06PM
Yeah, I was kind of hoping that they would fix that whole co-op problem. You know, the one where you decide to start a game with your girlfriend after playing on your own for 40+ hours and then find out that you've lost all of your experience, abillities, gold and renown. That sure was a fun feature. I guess that'll be a part of the next DLC.
For those affected by this feature, there is a way to get your experience/abillities back, but it requires an exploit. If you don't trust yourself with the knowledge of an xp exploit then stop reading now. Basically what you have to do is to buy some xp potions, I used java because that was the only thing I could find, then buy a couple of abillities. press start on a second controller to start up a henchman, press a a couple times (it asks you a few times whether or not your sure that you don't want to play with an attatched profile) and then downgrade the henchman's abillities and quit from the henchman's menu. All of the xp from the downgraded abillities will be transferred to your hero. I was able to get all of my abillities back within 20 min. which was well over 2 million xp worth. For the money, there's really nothing you can do, but thankfully, it's not too hard to amass a fortune in Fable 2. Renown on the other hand is a bit more difficult to replenish, you'll just have to show off your trophies to everyone you meet.
Zertoss @ Nov 24th 2008 1:29PM
I hope that resurrection shrine is for bringing back my dog! I need him for questing, dammit!
TwEE @ Nov 24th 2008 2:31PM
Hey thats a good point. The dog was a big part of the game's charm, it would suck to play through all future quests without him.
Bombfrog @ Nov 24th 2008 2:46PM
Did you just spoil the end of the game?
Zertoss @ Nov 24th 2008 3:00PM
Just 2 of the 3 endings.
Azerael @ Nov 24th 2008 5:04PM
*more spoilers*
What did you choose if not to bring back your dog? Didn't you consider that there'd still be stuff to do after beating Lucien? Money can be made, villagers are everywhere, but the dog is gone forever...
Markez @ Nov 24th 2008 9:57PM
Holy fuck, man. Spoiler on top of spoiler, you dumbass. I already knew the first one, wasn't sure about the 2nd. Thanks a fucking pantload.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 24th 2008 10:15PM
You son of a fucking bitch.
D dogg @ Dec 7th 2008 8:04PM
That's some funny shit right there... just beat the game, wish I had known all this BEFORE making my choice because instead of bitching about you SPOILING SPOILING SPOILING and ruining my gaming life...
I would've chosen to have all my loves ones resurrected instead of all the villagers brought back, damn it.
I'm pissed I didn't read this earlier! Just goes to show Zertoss, damned if you do and damned if you don't. If I were you though, I'd tell all these cry babies to grow the f**k up!
benjor0x0r @ Nov 24th 2008 1:31PM
I think they should offer this free for those of us that got screwed with the Limited edition. But maybe I'm just bitter...
Zertoss @ Nov 24th 2008 1:39PM
Nah, I'm not bitter at all about the limited edition fiasco, and I agree with you. At the very least we should get a discount.
Danny F. @ Nov 24th 2008 1:44PM
Same here, all we got really was extra halo gear and a sword that was only for like the first 2 hours into the game to which you then you could've afford a much better weapon anyway. Talk about bait-n-switch.. I was really mad at the downgraded L.E. I got :-\
benjor0x0r @ Nov 24th 2008 1:48PM
And actually they gave away that free content to anyone who sent them an email saying their code didn't work, even if they didn't buy the LE. So double screwed?
Xoviet chiK @ Nov 24th 2008 1:32PM
50 new leaderboards or 50 new gamescore? 50 Leaderboards seems like an awful lot...
Knothole Glade was my favorite town in the original. Looking forward to some new content, though it's not like I need another reason to replay the game, have barely put it down since 10/21.
BananaBoat @ Nov 24th 2008 1:36PM
This DLC is a little quick after the release of the game...hopefully this is a decent amount of content, and not just some stuff that should have been on the disc anyway.
Aaah well, snow levels are always appreciated.
Arnon @ Nov 24th 2008 2:40PM
Well, it's a new world to explore, with new property, new quests, new clothing, new weapons, new items, new leaderboards, etc. for $10. To me, this is what DLC SHOULD be.
Markez @ Nov 24th 2008 10:01PM
I agree, I think this is what DLC should be, APPROPRIATELY timed so as to still be relevant and awesome.
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo disappointed how long it took for ME and GTAIV DLC, really really really really disappointed.
I really loved this game. I can definitely see how this would be viewed as a short game if you were to blow through the main part, but it probably took me 12-15 hrs.
Markez @ Nov 24th 2008 10:02PM
And why are snow levels always appreciated?
Reminds me of the snowy place you open up after you play the lute for the demon door.
BananaBoat @ Nov 25th 2008 3:37AM
Epic stuff often happens in the snow. The only example I can come up with at the moment is Metal Gear Solid 1 and 4, but there are a ton more examples out there.
Also, it is a nice change of scenery compared to the usual brown and grey color pallet of this generation.
Dirty @ Nov 24th 2008 1:41PM
No more celery for this guy.
Markez @ Nov 24th 2008 10:30PM
Sniffle, it's just such a vicious cycle, I just keep throwing pie down my gullet, all kinds, at all times of the day, with no abandon. And then I feel guilty and will eat nothing but celery for days at a time.
:*(
mcatrage @ Nov 24th 2008 1:42PM
This island should've been included in the story to make it longer.
Also achievements?
Alien Lord @ Nov 24th 2008 1:54PM
This is good news, Fable 2 was awesome and anything to make it better is also awesome.
A Firetruck @ Nov 24th 2008 1:56PM
while this is great more fable 2 methinks half of the assets are already in game...
Babu Yagu @ Nov 24th 2008 2:01PM
Can't wait for it. On my sixth play through Fable 2 at the moment and looking forward to more. Hope we don't have to start from begining to play the DLC. Then again we might just fly through with a fully developed character.
Snowblind @ Nov 24th 2008 2:04PM
By the looks of it, there's a "submarine" in Bowerstone to take us to the new island. The knights armour looks really cool, and the new characters do sound pretty neat as well.
Really looking forward to this, a snowy area was one of the few things the game was missing :)
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Nov 24th 2008 2:05PM
Knothole? Isn't that where Sonic and his crappy friends live in the comics?
Travis @ Nov 24th 2008 2:15PM
I suppose we'd have to read Sonic comics to know for sure.
F1 @ Nov 24th 2008 2:43PM
Quick! Call Ludwig!!
Marty @ Nov 24th 2008 2:57PM
Yes, that is indeed where they live. Knothole Village.
Ayrkain @ Nov 24th 2008 10:43PM
Hey, if you lived in a village like that, you'd need a knothole too.
Ba-dum-pish
Travis @ Nov 24th 2008 2:10PM
there we have it... i was waiting for the news until i traded my copy in... Im not dropping 10 bucks here and there for stuff that should have been included to make this game worth more than a weeks play
Duke @ Nov 24th 2008 2:16PM
C'mon, you knew they would charge for new dl content missions.
Alien Lord @ Nov 24th 2008 2:30PM
You really are shallow aren't you Travis
Spartacus @ Nov 24th 2008 4:17PM
Man, if you finished Fable II in a week, you have WAAAAAY more gaming time than I do. Even if you blew through Albion in 20 hours, which meant you missed a LOT of content, that's 3 hours a day (roughly), every day.
I get about a third of that on average- most of which is on the weekends. I miss the good ole days of irresponsibility...
Travis @ Nov 24th 2008 7:14PM
Im not saying I didn't like it... it was just too short..and like many are saying, this DLC seems like it should have been on the disk.
I don't hang on to games or have massive collections, i'm constantly trading/selling so I can play other ones - I'm far from rich
and as for my free time? Yeah, I had a lull in my university work which gave me some time to play
I'll probably keep Fable 2...This probably won't be the last/best DLC available
rbtroj @ Nov 24th 2008 2:11PM
Is this the big announcement? I'm not criticising, I'm honestly wondering.
Kevin949 @ Nov 24th 2008 3:41PM
it is. and again this is molyneaux (SP?) just bloating up whatever news he has. I love how the big announcement requires us to pay. Not that I'm against DLC (well, I am to an extent) but if you're going to tout having a "good" surprise and it's not free, it's not a surprise. Just a "hey look, we're doing what every other company has been doing."
Snowblind @ Nov 25th 2008 7:10AM
Molyneux did NOT hype up this announcement. One of the development teams community members pointed out on the forums there was going to be some kind of announcement this week that Fable fans would enjoy. That was all.
Trulz @ Nov 24th 2008 2:11PM
DLC this quick smells of unfinished game to me. But then again, it's awesome for them to get some DLC out this quickly. I can't decide if I want to be happy, or feel inconsolable rage. Damn you, Lionhead.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 24th 2008 2:16PM
At 10 bucks a pop, we are the ones taking it up the knot hole.
solidunit @ Nov 24th 2008 2:28PM
Knothole? Will there be a cave entrance that resembles the goatse guy?
Biff_McFresh @ Nov 24th 2008 3:50PM
10 bucks eh? Still DO WANT
finnith @ Nov 24th 2008 3:54PM
And here I thought Westcliff was Knothole Glade.
