He's right, you know.

Even if it looks exactly like God of War 2, it will still look like nothing I, personally, have ever played or ever will.

Santa Monica Studios helped GG with the design of the engine for KZ2. As much as KZ2 puts other CFPS to shame, basically what I get from what Jaffe said is that we have not seen anything yet.

If KZ2 uses 4.5 of the SPE's then that means there are still 1.5 of them NOT in use. KZ2 is not the END of the unveiling of the PS3's true muscle....it is the beginning.

I think that Sony with it's 15 1st party studios will use the KZ2 engine on many now in development and future titles.

UE3 is clearly at the point of where not much more if any can be squeezed out of it. UE3 might not run very well without alot of work on the PS3....but the KZ2 engine seems to run fine. Dec. 4th is when Sony releases the chains off of the NDA on KZ2's single player campaign...and boys and girls we have not seen anything yet.

As good as the KZ2 beta looks, it is from an OLD build...so grab your ankles ladies cause Sony is going in DEEP.

Happy football and Turkey day to you all.

Sounds good Killjebus, the problem is that I have heard that song and dance 100 times and never once, NOT ONCE has it ever come through. I will believe it when I see it, and seeing it will be when I a 360 and a PS3 game run side by side and you can tell which is which.

Sony's going in deep all right, but not in the pleasurable way more than likely...

"I a 360 and a PS3 game run side by side and you can tell which is which."

If you are a 3rd party developer what good would come out of making one version superior to the other? If they made the PS3 one to take advantage of the Cell, why would anyone who has both buy the 360 version?

Just look at PS3 1st party or exclusive games and you see the difference. The clean lines, beautiful colors, clarity, the amount of detail and things in the environment, the animation, the A.I. and so on.

That is how you can tell one over the other in terms of hardware power. The detail of the textures in MGS4 is rediculous even when you zoom in during the realtime cutscenes, not a jaggy in site or a muddy texture.

Think of the PS3 in it's lifetime in terms of the PS2. This is the end of 2002, and if memory serves...not many of the console defining games had come out yet, it will be no different with the PS3.

Good, Great games take time (three years) and this generation is no different.

@Killjebus - Are you saying the PS3 has superior AI? How so? And if so, in what cases?

I love my PS3, but can't say it trounces the competitor's game designs or AI...

That's all I am saying, even in first party exculsive titles a huge difference has yet to show up. All I am saying is I will believe all of Sony's dribble when/if I see it, and I haven't seen it yet.

and yes I own a PS3, yes I played MGS4.

I don't know you guys the exclusives on the PS3 have been the best games of this generation IMO. The two that come to mind first are MGS 4 & LBP. I also think if you played GT:P you would never want to touch another racing game. There is some truth to the fact that these big titles have been in development since the PS3 was released. I don't think there is another game this generation that compares favorably to either MGS 4 or LBP.

lario- resistance 1 has much better AI than gears 1.
they are much smarter. they come to you to kill you and their aim is great and they get out of the way when you shoot at them.

gears 2 has made their AI better this time around and gears 2 AI is much better this time around.
i havent played resistance 2 yet.

So he hasn't seen the new Prince of Persia or Okami? Or even Zelda Wind Waker for that matter? God of War III should be spectacular anyway, but to say it's like nothing we've ever played? That's going too far I think. Are we still using the beat'em up formula? Probably, so let the God of War gameplay of yesteryear commence.

i swear to god if this game is cell-shaded im going to find the cutest baby i can find and punch it in the face. sony is gonna have a dead baby blood on their hands if they pull off another cell-shaded piece of garbage, even if the games amazing.

cell shaded games are so much easier to make, and shows their lazyiess of not having to make 3-d models and shadowing and all that lingo and just take 20 polygons and throw watercolor paint on it.

I seriously doubt that's an accurate assessment of cell shaded games. The amount of effort put forth must be staggering since the only game I have seen do it right was Zelda Wind Waker. It's all in the fluidity of the animation. To berate a game over the art style though is quite ridiculous though. I still consider Wind Waker as one of the most beautiful games ever made, though far from one of the best (damn ocean!).

some cell shaded games are great! but the fluidity of the game is cause it doesnt push the hardware whatsoever.

its funny because my personal experience with this is i have the orcina of time on my pc, and i used a mod to make it look like windwaker, using windwaker png files. takes almost no memory, and compared to the complicity of gears or mgs4, this is so easy to do

As someone with personal experience with cel-shading, it is certainly wrong to say there are no 3-D models. In fact, you have to be very careful with your models because edges show up easily and look nasty in cel-shading. Likewise, lighting is a bit more tricky depending on how many shades you are using. When using few shades, the lighting loves to turn things solid black.

However, overall I agree that working with cel-shading is a bit easier, simply because you don't need to mess with textures, which I personally find one of the most difficult parts. That and if it doesn't look perfect, you can always say "I meant it that way. It's the style!"

(Note: I have no experience with interactive elements)

@reign

Don't worry your pretty little hed, my money is on GOW3 will look like that brief glimpse we got at E3.
GOW3 will be using the KZ2 engine...improved and tweaked to fit the different direction and genre of this game.

Just think how good GOW2 looked on the PS2, better than any Wii game. (which is more powerful) I am not bashing the Wii in this post (plenty of time to bash the Wii in other posts) I am just putting it into perspective for you on the Godlyness of Awesomeness that will be GOW3.

KZ2 will be the beginning of the awesomeness of the TRUE POWER (take that Palpatine) of the PS3 and it's CELL.

Happy Turkey and Football day ladies.

"A GG dev has confirmed on the official forums that Killzone 2 will actually have *no* install."

Correct!!!

There is this little know technology from the PS2 days called STREAMING TECHNOLOGY, with this tool, you can STREAM CONTENT OFF A DISC CONSTANTLY with NO LOADING visible to the player. Some PS3 games have done this already (Uncharted) but for this to work a developer must implement it very early in the development cycle.

With a 50gb disc at its disposal, GG will stream the 2gig plus levels directly off the disc. This is where the vastly superior speed of XDR ram comes into play.

The problem is that most PS3 games started development using GDR ram wich is MUCH SLOWER and streaming off the disc is not a viable option.

Not sure, but I am almost sure that there will be extensive matchmaking available in this game. GG has stated more than once that KZ2 is half multiplayer and half single player, 2 separate teams have been toiling away for the better part of three years on this game.

You would have to be an eediot or have your hed so far up Bill's ass to think that Sony absolutely, positively CANNOT frack this game up after the debacle of the 2005 trailer and the fact that this game is the game that will put the PS3 on a different level than the other system of this generation.

I think God of War is something that could really benefit from being on current-gen hardware. The spectacle of swinging blades cleaving through hordes of enemies can be a bit diminished in standard-def.

However, I've recently played through the 2003 Prince of Persia (sands) for the first time ever and it's basically the game that I wanted God of War to be. God of War is good at being a hack n' slash, but because it is a hack n' slash I automatically find it old fashioned and uninteresting.

Yeah, this kinda comes off as something of a backhanded compliment to me.

Personally, I wasn't impressed by Gears 2. The high end graphics just get lost in the action for me, so I never notice them. I reckon I'll feel the same when they unveil God of War 3.

I think the last game I was impressed by was Okami. Mario Galaxy to a lesser extent.

Jaffe is neither employed by Sony (merely a licensed developer) nor affiliated with the God of War franchise (has not been since the first)

So.. thats like claiming his compliment of Gears is Microsoft spin.

Of course, no one could EVER hold a positive opinion of a Sony product, so this must be a lie right?

But at the same time when has a god of war game disappointed people? Both ps2 games were amazing and I've heard nothing but great things about the psp version, which I will soon get to play since I'm finally getting a psp for x-mas.
