This time last year, THQ snapped up the trademark for Relic's space-faring RTS, Homeworld. Now Eurogamer reports that, during a visit to Relic's offices, the dev was (quite badly) attempting to tease that Homeworld 3 is in development without actually saying, "It's in development."
When asked about the possibility of a new Homeworld, Dawn of War II design lead Jonny Ebbert told the site that, "We're really happy the IP has made its way home, and yeah, we're definitely looking at it." Ebbert continued, saying there's "always a chance" that the game is in development at the studio, adding that he is "very, very, very" excited about the idea of revealing it to the world. And ... it's just being looked into? Nice try, guys.

OMFGOMFGOMFG. I'd totally thought they had abandoned this game. Hooray for awesome classics and epic space battles.

I'm very interested in this, but is that a screenshot of HW2, or have they just not made much progress on the graphics front?

That's actually Homeworld 1.
2 looks amazing. Hell, if they rereleased 2, it would put some "next gen" games to shame.

It's probably in the "we have some ideas written down on a napkin from the local diner" stage, but I'm excited.

Considering sins was a homeworld clone... I don't think you should worry.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG Really? No way! OH. MY. GOD. Don't you be lying to me folks. No shifty tricks, ya hear me? I cannot express just how much my gaming life has been defined by Homeworld and Relic. Hell Relic got me into W4k through Dawn of War just because they were the guys that made Homeworld. Oh please be true. I so want a Homeworld3. I've been wanting a HW3 since they announced HW2. I need it. I need it BAD. I don't care where they are in development as long as it's being worked on! HOMEWORLD 3!

Homeworld 1 is my all time favorite game. I played that single played campaign so many times that I almost know it by heart, even after so many years.
Homeworld Cataclysm took the game engine from the first game, added a wicked campaign where you play the underdog kiith Somtaaw, that went from a small space based mining kiith to the super power on the homeworld Hiigara.
Homeworld 2, while not as epic in scope as the first two games (IMHO), was just as good gameplay wise.
And now there's talk of a number 3!
Me so happy!

If they make this in the style of Battlestations Midway, with RTS and Action Simulator aspects blended together, sign me up.

I got the the mission where all the enemy ships are in a sphere around whatever your ultimate target is, maybe two or three missions from the end. I never did finish it either, so I ended up just youtubing the final sequence (with Yes song) to see how the story ends.

They need to work with Microsoft to get to license the Halo IP for use with the Homeworld engine

Well, considering there is a full Star Wars campaign using the HW2 engine that's unlicensed, I'd say the modders have it covered.

Homeworld 1 was my all time favorite game. The haunting soundtrack, the excellent continuity from mission to mission, the utter confussion and panic that the game could instill in you when it threw you into unpredictable situations.
To this day, I've never played a game that made me care about my units like homeworld 1. The challenge of the game was pretty high too -- but not in a bad way - these two things combined kind of made all RTS' feel "cheap" to me after -- like I don't need to care about all these little dots moving around. But in homeworld...every one of those dots really, really mattered and because of the difficulty there was a good chance of those ships being nocked out if you weren't paying attention. I'm stoked.

Aye. Homeworld was the first game whose story blew me away. Not System Shock, not Half-Life...Homeworld. The cutscenes were so alien from anything I had seen (Tetsuo...anyone?) yet so beautiful and emotional.

Yeah, I still tell people Homeworld was the best RTS ever made and everyone is like "What's that?"
I never got to see the end of the game, because I was so BAD at it. But each cutscene made me miss this fictional alien home more.
My best memory of the game is also displays my ineptitude:
I was playing online. I was totally excited because I had just built my first frigate. Then it says, "Hyperspace signature detected" and 50 hyperspace gates opened around my base and frigates came through. It was the most epic thing I had ever seen in a video game, too bad it was my swift death.

As amazing as both games were (favorite RTS series ever), the AI in the second one was in fact kinda cheap. Not in their tactics or balancing, but the game would look at what kind of ships you ended the previous mission with, and have the enemy start out the next mission with ships that are strong against them.
I was pretty bad at it too, but I eventually finished it like two years ago.
Bring Sajuuk to bear!

People who have not played any games in the series have missed out on one of the greatest RTS in history. Amazing narrative and score in both games, something most RTS lack.
People are certainly missing the boat if they pass up this title. I would compare HW's hidden gem like nature to SotC.

OMG, so looking forward to this one. Homeworld was the game that totally blew me away on my friend's Geforce 256.
Gotta be one of the best series ever.. Certainly, Relic has done a good job of proving they can put out a quality product.
This'll be on my list sometime after Starcraft 2 and DoW 2, assuming I ever get tired of Fallout.

absolutely agree..the music was fantastic, especially the one song when your homeworld gets blown to smithereens as they would say. I forget the name but I'm sure someone will know it. I think it was also in "Apocalypse Now".
