Rumor: Sony Europe planning PS3 price cut in March, details future games

As someone above said, this is not an announcement, its a leak. Pay attention in class. I think that inFamous could do well if they release it inconjunction with the price cut. That, and it looks and sounds like it could be good.

There is no "best one" in terms of PS3 SKUs. They are all the same now. The difference is a bundled game and bigger HDD. The PS3 is already $399.99 and I could see it dropping down to $299.99 or at least $329.99. There is no rotating SKUs anymore like there used to be. It's simply bundle packs and HDD capacity. I would go with the cheaper PS3 and upgrade the HDD myself if necessary. Hell, I picked up a 250 GB 2.5' HDD for $75.00 at Office Depot. While the PS3 bundle is good in comparison to the other SKU w/o a bundle it's still a better deal to buy and install the HDD yourself because you get extra capacity.

Meanwhile the cost to upgrade your 360's HDD is still to high.

120 Gb 360 HDD MSRP is $150
60 Gb 360 HDD + starter pack MSRP is $100 (more than I paid for a 250 Gb HDD!)

I don't have a problem with MS selling proprietary HDDs, Wi-Fi adapters ($100) & wireless headsets ($60) but they need to at least make them affordable. The wireless headset is really not that bad of a price for a headset but the problem is you can only use it with your 360. They should drop the price on all those periphials by at least $25 dollars and in the case of the Wi-Fi adapter more like $35 total.

if the ps3 price drops below the 360 price, I would expect another 360 price cut next year. no matter what anybody at MS has said. things change.

MS knows that keeping the price down will keep sales up. If sony sees higher sales after a price drop it would only be natural for MS to counter with a price drop.

(remember the 360 costs much less to manufacture and sell than the ps3, there is more room to lower the price.)

What will they do drop the price down to $150 or $100? Get real man. The best they can do going forward is game bundles. $199 is as low as it's going until they release the next console.

umm.. johnny the 360's are still $ 300 - $ 400.
it is only the arcade model that is $ 200.

of course MS can drop the price of the 360 even lower in the future as production costs lower (production costs of consoles have always gone down over time of production)

the 360 costs much less to produce than the ps3 and will always costs less to consumers to purchase out of the box.

he only talks about the accessories that the 360 doesnt have, he forgets the ps3 doesnt include HDMI cable, HD componet cables, any headset, no ethernet cable in 40gb and too short in 80gb,( its funny how he lists unnecessary accessories the 360 doesnt have that he must have, while the ps3 clearly doesnt come with needed accessories.

The head of the 360 division in the Uk stated it. How is that rumor or speculation? If they drop the price then they drop the price but I'm just going off what the execustive said instead of speculation.

I simply posted an article quoting the head of the 360 division in the UK where he stated there would not be a price drop for many year to come. If you want to speculate thats fine but all i did was post a fact.

$299 at launch and you can get a solo slim PS2 for $129 or a 2 game bundle for around $150.

Again you really show your stupidity. I said that the benefit of the PS3 is that it's an open platform. I never said you didn't need extra periphials. I went out my way to explain that some people might need those things on the PS3 as well. The accessories are only unecessary if you don't need them. In fact, all I did was list the ones I had needed with the 360. if you want to turn it into a big temper tantrum then go right ahead you bug baby.

1. This is not a PS3 thread, this is a public thread, hence why it's on Joystiq. I'm not posting in PS3fanboy, and if you find it needs to be there, then post there.

2. I wasn't pulling ANYTHING out of my ass. How about going on the net and looking up some info. They are currently working on a motherboard called Valhalla which has the potential to drastically reduce the price of the 360 and could possibly be used in the Next Xbox. The Valhalla motherboard combines the CPU and the GPU into one superchip at a 65nm process which would also bring to the fact that it would require a smaller heatsink, and would also come to the conclusion that it would have a lot more room to breathe and also cost a lot less to manufacture.

3. Again, I don't need half of the crap you mention to justify that the 360 is more expensive than the PS3. The reason the things you mention are add-on's is because they're just that, ADD-ONS. It's personal preference.

4. And instead of telling him he's stupid and that he cannot form correct sentences, how about you actually come up with a logical response related towards the subject at hand?

You also don't realize, that they specifically state there isn't a NEED for a price drop right now, that doesn't mean they cant DO it.

MS has worked up some market buzz going into the holiday season with their price drops..

sony dropped the price of the ps3 earlier this year when hordes of people were not waiting to buy expensive gifts for the holidays.

the holiday rush season is probably the best time to introduce a price reduction on any consumer good product.

because no matter how much money we have, we find ways to buy presents around the holidays for our loved ones.

Yeah they need to drop the price in January or before KZ2 drops. That would be teh ideal time. They at least need to announce it a little ahead of time.
