Tempting as this is, I'm going to pass. With the economy the way it is and the fact that I don't really need any credit card debts to deal with, I don't think I really need a ps3 that bad.

Don't by something if you can't afford it.

Whether you decide to take the plunge or not, go by that rule and you'll never have any problems.

Realistically, you should have a credit card, whether you use it or not. One of the (big) factors in your credit rating is the length of your credit history, and average age of your cards. Even if you don't start using credit cards until 5 years from now, you're much better off having 5 years of credit history already built up at that point.

Also, if you can, it makes sense to actually use the card for your normal purchases, just pay it off in full at the end of each month. In that sense it's basically the same as using a debit card or even cash, only you get rewards and build your credit all the while.

For Christ's sake people, the act of HAVING a credit card isn't what gets people in credit trouble. It's using it incorrectly.

Two simple rules:
1. Pay off the full amount of each bill you receive.
2. Don't spend more than you can afford while following rule #1.

I am always cautious to sign up for credit card deals. I guess its an okay deal if you have no credit cards and you can afford to pay the balance off completely when the bill comes around. Otherwise, don't do it.

Not available in Canada. I'd've considered it otherwise.

6 months of interest on a few hundred dollars is barely anything, not even equal to tax. Credit interest is over exagerated, if you are thousands of dollars in debt then ya its something to think about, but for people who only keep a few hundred on their credit card its an insignificant amount.

sony offered a similar offer last year with the sony credit card, something like $ 100 off any sony product including the ps3.

not good to have too many credit accounts.
and not good to close any credit account.
no thank you.

I mentioned this last year when this came up during the holiday (then, simply called the Sony card), this card has a HIGH interest rate if used for anything other than Sony Store purchases and/or after the introductory period, if you happen to have a balance.

The default rate is "up to 26.99% + prime but no more than 29.99%"

It's really designed for purchasing Sony items of more than $300 and hopefully paying off the balance within a year. If you you'll carry a balance beyond a year, then this card is NOT for you. If you want a credit card for general purchases, this card is NOT for you. Seriously, the interest rate will hurt you.

As mentioned earlier, it is from JPMorgan/Chase. Should you simply need a credit card, most other cards offer far more favorable terms. Quite honestly, I think you'd be better off with ANY rewards card (although rewards cards don't necessary offer the best interest rates), but then you would hopefully at least get a 1 to 1 rewards rate for the total value of the purchase, so instead of geting $150 off, you could get 400 reward points.

But the Sony Playstation card could be tempting if you're able to pay it off within a year.

Actually, (at least for me, if it changes) the interest was only 10%, no annual fees and very mild late fees ($15). The interest does not change if I purchase at a retail store or buy non-Sony products.

In fact, part of the promotion says you can avoid S&H charges by purchasing with the card in a store and they'll deduct the $150 off your bill.

They're obviously making a push for sales to get more PS3s in more homes. Either way it doesn't affect me. I use my credit cards for large purchases and then pay them off within a week simply to keep credit building.

My comments are based on reviewing the current terms and conditions. If you look at the terms from last year, they were different than now. The card, to me, seems designed mostly for purchasing from Sony and paying off before the terms change, however, not everyone is able to pay off debt during introductory periods. My concerns are mostly cautionary. By all means get a PS3 if you want one and if this deal makes sense to you, but be careful you're not getting into a card that's going to get you in over your head after the introductory period ends.

I took them up on the offer. I still use my old student credit card with outrageous interest rates, so I needed a new one anyway. I just leave $5 on the card at the end of every month to keep my credit score going.

I took their offer because now my dad will be getting his Blu-Ray player for Christmas with 2 Blu-Ray discs (offer #2 is a buy-1-get-1 on Blu-Ray movies).

So I applied (I really need to establish my credit; I want to buy a house in a few years), how long does it generally take for them to say if you're approved or not?

If you dont have credit history then you will probably be denied. Most people are only able to get a student credit card or retail store card without credit history (the retail card must report credit activity for it to count towards your credit, not all do). If you are a student then the easiest way is to go to Chase.com and apply for one of the credit cards for students since you dont need credit history or even a job. They have really low limits and really high interest but theres not much choice.

That puts the 80GB model at $250. That's a freakin amazing deal. Plenty of money left over for a couple of games and The Dark Knight on Blu-ray =)

And no need to purchase bullshit extras like a Live subscription for $50/year and WiFi adatpers or hard drives. PS3 has it all

I just applied for this card and I was instantly approved, but I didn't recieve an e-mail detailing the offer on the ps3. can anyone tell me if I can just buy it at walmart, or do I need to buy it online? I'm a little apprehensive to go out and buy one without knowing for sure if I will get the 150.00 dollar credit.
