Holidaze 2008: Best of Black Friday

Note: No, the starred letters in this image don't rearrange to spell out Braid.
We don't know what you're talking about. Nothing to see here, move along.
Now that you've had a taste of our complete (and completely awesome) Black Friday shopping guide, we thought it best to give you a more concise edition to digest. Introducing: "The Best of the Best of Black Friday 2008" ...
But first, some Joytips:
- There are two excellent Xbox 360 deals: (1) At Target, scoop the Pro Bundle ($300; 60GB HDD) with bonus $50 gift card, which is good for: Call of Duty: World at War ($49); or an EA 2-pack: Dead Space ($30) and Burnout Paradise ($20); or Halo 3 ($30) and 3-month Xbox Live Card ($15 -- with $5 to spare!); or (2) Circuit City's Arcade Bundle ($200), which packs in an extra wireless controller and refurbished 20GB hard drive on top of the other goodies.
- Best Buy is the only featured retailer with a Black Friday PlayStation 3 bundle ($400) with Ratchet & Clank and the first "new" 007 on Blu-ray
- Sam's Club (not featured in our guide) has the only notable Wii Bundle ($425 -- not $224 as originally rumored), which includes 3 extra Wiimote-Nunchuk sets, Mario Super Sluggers and King of Clubs: Mini Golf ($115 total savings); good luck duking it out for this one!
- In case you missed one of the better third-party Wii games of the year (and plenty of Wii owners did), Boom Blox ($20) is discounted at Target
- Now's a great time to cop some of last year's best, like Bioshock, The Orange Box ($20 each at Circuit City) and Halo 3 ($30 at Target)
- In general, there are some great PS2 deals to be had ... if you're still living in the past-gen (and let's not forget GameStop is selling pre-owned original Xboxes and GameCubes for $40 and $30, respectively -- just don't assume your kids won't know they've recieved hand-me-downs)

originally the wii sams package was advertised at $225
vgxtremist @ Nov 25th 2008 12:15PM
Bioshock and Burnout for $20...perfect stocking stuffers!
J @ Nov 25th 2008 12:19PM
I really want to try deadspace on pc because i figured the precision of using the mouse will help cut limbs, but I read somewhere that the controls for pc aren't very intuitive. Has anyone tried the pc version yet?
Brandon @ Nov 25th 2008 2:32PM
The PC controls are absolute crap.
They added in a horrible mouse lag to compensate for the extra precision that one would get from using a mouse, and it just feels horrible.
I ended up borrowing my friends wired X360 controller, and playing it with that on the PC, and it was a million times better.
max @ Nov 25th 2008 10:16PM
there's still the problem of the massive dead zone on the analog stick
J @ Nov 26th 2008 12:23AM
thanx brandon. That's what I was worried about. I hope they get that fixed with a patch.
Dr Scientist @ Nov 29th 2008 1:00AM
In the newest PC Gamer, there is a letter that mentions that turning off VSync (which is ON by default) in the graphics options fixes the mouse lag. This was a response to their review in the previous issue that mentioned the unresponsive aiming.
fiskadoro @ Nov 28th 2008 4:10PM
Really, mouse controls work just fine on this game even if it takes a minute or two to get used to, and I believe the keys are re-mappable.
Also, don't enable v-sync in the game, but enable it via the nVidia or ATI control panel, and you're golden.
Nice game, suitably creepy, play it with the lights out and a pair of surround-sound headphones on, and enjoy :)
SaraAB87 @ Nov 25th 2008 12:32PM
That Sams Club ad was a photoshopped ad, the price was never intended to be that low.
Okami and Boom Blox are the best deals for Wii games.
Rocketboy @ Nov 25th 2008 12:59PM
If you own a Wii, and don't buy Okami for $30, you have no soul.
I almost always get bored with Platformy/Action/Adventure games, for example, Zelda games never hold my interest for over a few hours. But Okami, no lack of interest there.
AwesomeTown @ Nov 25th 2008 1:24PM
Ok, now I don't really plan on heading out anytime early on black friday. Error in the Best Buy ad. C&C Collection is on sale for $9.99, not C&C 3. Oh well, I can sleep late now.
j.howlett @ Nov 25th 2008 1:42PM
i kinda want a black xbox.
AwesomeTown @ Nov 25th 2008 2:15PM
Also, it's funny when "doorbusters" are more expensive than what is currently found online. I'm looking at you Gamestop memorystick pro duo.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 27th 2008 10:31PM
It may be more than regular prices online, but it's $0.01 off! If you waited until Monday to buy this, it would cost you 0.04% more!
Ignatius @ Nov 25th 2008 2:21PM
Hey, just a quick note, the CC bundle actually comes with a refurbished 20GB HDD and a REFURBISHED wireless controller.
busydoingnothing @ Nov 25th 2008 2:23PM
How about Tom Clancy's EndWar at Best Buy for $37.99? That's a hot deal that I'm gonna scoop up.
baef @ Nov 25th 2008 2:25PM
Why wait on the 360 deal...

Adam @ Nov 25th 2008 2:48PM
According to Best Buy's Black Friday ad on their website, you can get the Xbox 360 Pro bundle (with 60gb HDD, Lego Indiana Jones and Kong Fu Panda) for $299 with FREE NBA 2K9 and Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. Not a bad selection of FREE games here.
Arturo @ Nov 25th 2008 5:24PM
I already have my consoles and games, I just need a new tv :(...still waiting for circuit city to call me back after the interview :(
chrisgiles @ Nov 25th 2008 6:19PM
Or shop in Canada anytime, and get the Pro 360 bundle for $299.00 Canadian and get Lego Indiana Jones, Kung Fu Panda (if you want it) and Gears of War 2 at Best Buy
sjs2626 @ Nov 25th 2008 8:50PM
Dead Space. $30. Target. Must. Buy.
Nguyen @ Nov 26th 2008 11:36AM
Hey Best Buy also has Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions for $10!! It's hard to see in their ad but you can tell from the box cover.
Box cover at about the same size:

Best Buy ad scans:

You guys should include this in your list!!
Martin @ Nov 26th 2008 9:03PM
Yes, if you like loading times during spell casting, please feel free to pick up what could have been a great PSP game, but ultimately was found lacking.
Alex McKee @ Nov 27th 2008 5:53PM
Rip it to your memory stick after you buy it. I bought a 4GB card just so I could do this with everything. Load times are non-existant in most games.
Melvin @ Nov 26th 2008 10:26PM
Somebody knows where I cand find the best deal for psp 3000. I need to buy 3 systems, Im getting crazy with my kids!
drsnacks @ Nov 28th 2008 11:53PM
Why no mention of Radio Shack's $30 Dual Shock 3's? That was the juiciest game-related deal of the day IMO.
