It seems that Nintendo isn't quite as draconian as we thought about the Wii Download Ticket code accompanying new purchases of the WiiSpeak microphone. Previous statements suggested that there was absolutely no way to obtain a code without purchasing new hardware -- even if you have bought new hardware and require a replacement code.
The statement from Nintendo of Europe reads "Any consumer who may have misplaced their Wii Download Ticket number for the Wii Speak Channel or require a new number following a Wii exchange may contact their local Nintendo Customer Services department, where they can request a replacement Wii Download Ticket number."
There's no word of secondhand purchases or any other circumstances, but it seems likely that if Nintendo is at all willing to offer replacement codes, the friendly customer service representatives won't be too stingy with Download Ticket codes. Just don't buy a used WiiSpeak expecting to get the free code.

For god's sake — just make it a free download, Nintendo.

Seriously, I don't understand what they gain by restricting this at all. They could even offer it for free to everyone, and then people without Wii Speak can just chat via keyboard or something, and actually use Miis for something outside of Wii Sports.

I don't understand why people are so upset over this.
Nintendo only wants to give the Wii Speak Channel to people who bought Wii Speak (shocking, I know!) so let's all cry and whine over how we can't get it.

I think it's more the fact they are going about speaking to other people in the stupidest manner possible.
I men seriously. People can download a program like Skype or MSN, get their friends on their list, and talk.
There's no codes, there's no limits, no safeties.
Seriously. I LOVE Nintendo, but their approach to online is still pretty ass backwards.

No, it has nothing to do with that. It all has to do with the codes.
None of this is nearly as bad as Kotaku who was convincing people that the device could only be activated with a code and without that code, the device couldn't be used.

Nintendo, you would make a lot more money if you offered it free with WiiSpeak and for $5 without.
Also, my WiiSpeak preview Channel says it's coming on December 5th. :)
