Xbox 360-exclusive DLC? Lara Croft fans aren't so easily swayed, it seems. According to GamesIndustry.biz, the gallivanting grave-robber has found herself exploring the interior of the PlayStation 3, more than any other system, with the release of Tomb Raider: Underworld. The report notes that 51 percent of the game's initial UK sales (before Monday?) were on Sony's monolithic platform, with the Xbox 360 accounting for 34 percent. The rest is made up of Underworld's PC, Wii and DS versions.
While the news is somewhat surprising -- the Xbox 360 tends to enjoy a larger share of multiplatform sales -- it should be noted that PlayStation 3 owners missed out on the last two, post-reboot Tomb Raider adventures. We'll see whether that reflects in the US sales once the month is over.

Everyone who has a 360 is playing Gears2 and Left 4 Dead. Who has money to buy another tomb raider game? If I only had a PS3 I might have baught this game.

Out of all the people I know with PS3s (which is a lot, they haven't even looked into the benefits of the 360, it's just automatically shit to them because it's the 'other' console), none of them are hyped for Resistance 2.
The first is a truly awful game which I had to, and still am, forcing myself to complete.

Well Left4Dead does not interest me, and I already traded in Gears2, as I thought it sucked badly.. Will I be buying this, nope, it's just a poormans Drakes Fortune, for those Xbox owners left out by the much better NaughtyDog franchise.

Really? All the reviews I've seen have been positive. Most gave it something around an 8, which is excellent.
Also, who is still playing Gears 2? It was fun and all, as the B-Movie style game it is... but seriously? It's something you rent and wipe your hands of it after a week.
I haven't bought L4D yet. I will, because a certain friend of mine won't stop bugging me to play with him. But I have my doubts about it's value... Most valve source offshoots come out at a low price point and I snatch em up gratefully, so I'm a bit put off by the price tag. I played the L4D demo, and I just don't see it being worth $50... maybe they jacked up the price because they're selling it on 360 too? Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but it also seems like it would get old fast. I guess I can say for sure once I play through it entirely...

Hmmmm, would it be fair to assume someone never got around to sampling the delight that is Horde mode? That, for me, has more longevity than the original campaign could ever aspire to.

DigDug - Don't you get it? We all know you are a lying troll piece of trash at this point.
Nobody believes you played, looked at, or even thought about playing Gears 2. Your dumb ass comment hardly means a thing against actual reviews from people who played it and pretty much praised the crap out of it. So give up and go to hell already.

You are correct sir. I played through the entire campaign in co-op, had a blast, and felt complete and satisfied. I'll have to check out Horde mode sometime, if it's as good as you say.

Capital! You shan't be disappointed Sir, however, it is an experience greatly enhanced or diminished by the troupe you play in. That said, feel free to add my gamertag, so that when you get round to giving it a go you'll have at least one person trying to add to your enjoyment. It's exactly as it appears in my Joystiq username: "Skipjimroo"
Christ, how the hell did we digress to this in a Tomb Raider article?

Stop comparing TR to Uncharted. Uncharted was pretty much all about the combat, where as the combat in TR is pretty much non existant, instead it focuses on the puzzles and exploration.
Personally, I'd far rather play any of the TR games over Uncharted.

Could it possibly be that the 360 piracy is on the rise causing the ps3 version to get more sales? I mean the 360 version got DLC exclusively and a demo for it while the ps3 version gets nothing. Tomb Raider on the 360 is the superior version in terms of content. I'm pretty confused on this one. :(

If this is piracy , it will probably sway quite a few 3rd parties to releasing games only on PS3.

This brings up a question I've had for some time now.
I guessing that when copying a game to the HD, the xbox is simply making an iso image of the CD. Its this true? It seems like it would be a lot simpler to pirate xbox games now if thats the case.

You still need the game to play. To me it doesn't seem like anything has changed in terms of piracy. However, I wouldn't know either as I pay for the games I play.

I'm not talking about ripping a disc. I'm talking about hacking the xbox and downloading an ISO from a torrent or something to that effect.

You must have a bit for bit exact copy of the disc for the 360 to read it. The 360 installation extracts the contents of the game to the hard drive. If you notice, the amount of space it takes up is large than the size of the game iso. So I would conclude that it is not a bit for bit copy installed to the hard disk, but an uncompressed copy, which explains the speed gain.

There aren't enough people pirating games on Xbox for this to be the cause.

Would a bit-for-bit copy make piracy harder?
The only thing I can see making a bit-for-bit copy harder to pirate would be for each copy to have a unique number associated with it, which would also be unique to each game disc.
Even if that was the case, I would think that pirates could get around this somehow.

@Slayer: If that were the case then the PS3 should have outsold the Xbox version as well. I actually think it's because the Xbox crowd got to play the demo and thought it sucked :P

Console piracy isn't really a major sales factor. Few people know how to do it; even fewer are dumb or rich enough to risk their console being bricked.
Most likely it's the olden-school overlap between Sony fanboys and Tomb Raider fanboys. Not that Xbox sports a morally superior game lineup (DOA Volleyball), just that someone who still cares about Tomb Raider and has a console is more likely to have a PS3.

Us 360 gamers are busy enjoying our much better games, including our exclusives. With such an awesome library on the 360, we are far too busy to play yet another sub-par Tomb Raider game.

This seems to be a case of nostalgia. Almost everyone will associate this game with the original on PS1 (yes i know it also came out on Saturn). Also, Sony has a solid base in Europe, especially Britain

The PS3 never got a demo of Tomb Raider Underworld. The 360 did.
The demo was awful. The controls made it really hard to land jumps. The camera was ridiculous.
Apparently the 360 owners figured out that the game was bad, but the PS3 owners didn't get the chance.

THESE ARE UK SALES FIGURES....
just wait until the US sales figures are released.
there are about the same number of ps3 and 360 consoles in the UK.
however, there is approx. TWICE as many 360 consoles in the US than the ps3.
6.5 million ps3 in US
13 million 360 in US
