Skate 2 to grind North American retail shelves January 21
Just as your head begins to clear from downing your seventh pitcher of holiday eggnog, Electronic Arts announced plans to push off and catch a mad vert when Skate 2 nails its retail landing in January. The sequel will do a frontside 360 in North America on January 21, while skateboarders elsewhere will be able to get their trick on two days later on January 23.
Next month EA will also launch a Skate 2 web application, creatively titled "Graphics Creator," which will let players create customized graphics for their in-game decks and clothing. Additionally, would-be shredders in North America who pre-order Skate 2 will grab a code to unlock a "Throwback Pack" that will allow access to retro accessories, gestures and clothing. When you bail from a botched nosegrind, at least you'll look good in your Skate or Die shirt.

How much is going to cost to import my stuff from this web application?
Jack @ Nov 25th 2008 11:52AM
Hahaha excellent question.
Yeeeah, EA, how much?!
Either way I think this is a great idea. I'm really glad EA is doing this. But I still have ONE more feature that'll make this game complete...
Can I haz cusstom sowndtrac plz?!

Skate. had custom soundtracks so i see no reason why this one won't. At least it did on the 360. Maybe you are referring to the PS3 version in which case carry on.
Jack @ Nov 25th 2008 5:12PM
Dang it, really? The 360 version had custom soundtracks? Or were you able to play your own music from the Dashboard(or whatever its called)?
I want to be able to bring up my Sidekick (or whatever shameless plug) and see my music from the hard drive and make custom playlists.

probably nothing. When Skate. first came out, EGM did an interview with the producer/showrunner/creator/whatever they're calling that position (maybe it was lead programmer). Anyway, they were talking about the improvements for sequels and what they couldn't do when they released Skate., but an important thing I noticed was that they explicitly said they hated what EA was doing with downloadable content, charging people money to download an item, and they stated that if they were ever going to release anything extra for Skate. or its successors, it would be for free.
Needless to say, it's been a year since Skate. has been released, and not a single downloadable item that cost money has been uploaded. (besides picture packs, but who seriously spends money on those) Skate. rocks! Will be pre-ordering this last week

Nice, though I hoped they tweaked the controls a little better. There were some tricks that took me forever to do... or maybe that was the point. Hmm.
JeffM @ Nov 25th 2008 12:14PM
Yea- that was the point- so when you do a 360 flip it is actually challenging- as opposed to holding the analog stick up and hitting square or something...
ExMcCloud @ Nov 25th 2008 11:24AM
Hmmm....All the skate board puns were unnecessary BUT this game is gonna be great EA keeps coming with good stuff Im suprised
SHAZAM! @ Nov 25th 2008 11:48AM
Good stuff, I loved the original, it was a great improvement over what the Tony Hawk's series had been doing. Plus, January seems like a good time to release this, or at least for me, as my bank account will have recovered from christmas.

I cant wait for this one. Hopefully they learned their lesson and started the build on the ps3 then ported to the 360. Ive had this game for a year now and i still cant to the ROB and BIG challenge ive spent countless hours trying.
Still had alot of fun and played the SHYTE out of this game. ONE of TWO games that have been well worth the steep 60 dollar price mark.

Apparently, EA has a birthday present for me. :D

Still waiting on Tony Hawk: Moar extremz edition

The first game was so sick and realistic. I use to skateboard all the time in high school (was pretty good) so it's awesome that a realistic skateboard game was made. The only other one was that Thrasher game that released the same time the first Tony hawk game did. However, i won't be able to enjoy Skate 2 at launch because I'm going to get Killzone 2 a few weeks later and Skate 2 will drop down to $30 in a few months I reckon.
Biff_McFresh @ Nov 25th 2008 1:27PM
Ah same here. I remember that Trasher game, I remembering getting on it release day because it seemed way more realistic (which it was). Damn fine game for it's time, and still one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard in a videogame.

Great!
Can I walk up stairs in this version?
PJ Cabrera @ Nov 25th 2008 8:08PM
Heythisisgandhi, yes, you can walk upstairs (and downstairs, heck, walk everywhere) with this version. You can also drag obstacles around and create your own trick spot. Check out this video:
