Three content packs coming to Fallout 3 beginning in January

- Operation: Anchorage: Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.
- The Pitt: Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.
- Broken Steel: Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.
You've come a long way since horse armor, baby.

All three DLC packs sound awesome. Hopefully they aren't $10 each, depending on length that might be a little steep. But anyway, I'm also looking forward to seeing what mods people come out with, hell I might actually play around with the GECK a bit. I love Fallout 3.
Smurfy @ Nov 25th 2008 11:40AM
I find it hard to believe that there was no payoff when they're using Games for Windows Live. Who uses Game for Windows Live?
AwesomeTown @ Nov 25th 2008 1:00PM
Even if there was, I bet there will be more games coming out that use it now that the service is free.

of course not.
so they have to explain to the general public in a fancy way why they are doing what they are doing.

Being from Anchorage, it sounds even sweeter. I hope they model the city right. I can't wait to kill some commies in the remnants of Anchorage!

"will be coming to the 360 and PC with no PS3 plans."
Damn PS3 got told. Is there a reason why they keep getting shafted like this? And NO I will not ask my mother...
Burritoclock @ Nov 25th 2008 10:43AM
I don't actually know, but since we have heard nothing of a Microsoft payoff, the only other possible reason would be Oblivion's add-on not selling well on the PS store. Money is what it always comes down to.

Exclusive content for Fallout 3 was mentioned at E3 08', same day we found out **FFXIII was coming to 360.
**Just a reminder so when that drops, we dont get the same shocked look on our faces.

I think Bethesda, like Valve, really hates developing for the PS3 since it's so much harder.
Burritoclock @ Nov 25th 2008 11:06AM
They may have announced it as being exclusive but that doesn't mean money is involved. L4D is exclusive but there was no payoff, just the developers choice.
Sackolantern PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Nov 25th 2008 12:57PM
Burrito Clock
Gabe Newell got his start at MS and has bad mouthed the PS3 in public saying that it's a waste of time. With that said EA is considering doing a port of L4D like they did with the Orange Box. Pretty safe to assume Bethesda doesn't have anything against the PS3 and this content will be a timed exclusive. Goes back to the comments Maguire made about MS paying huge sums of money to secure DLC for a specific length of time. This is no different. Honestly what incentive would Bethesda have to not only release it on the 360? Huge bags of money from MS is pretty much the only plausible reason.
MN Guy @ Nov 25th 2008 2:35PM
In general, MS offers a bigger chunk of each game sale to developers and publishers than does Sony. So if a company expects DLC sales to be low on PS3 anyways, they might choose on their own to keep it exclusive to 360 to push multiconsole owners to the more profitable 360 version.
In addition to that, MS could offer even better percentages to devs and pubs for keeping things exclusive. They can also offer straight cash like with GTAIV but I think that is more rare than people think. Other perks include LIVE ads, TV ads, etc.
This has nothing to do with difficulty developing for the PS3 platform. That is silly. They make a whole world on PS3 and you better believe making one more little city wouldn't be any trouble whatsoever.
By the way, this DLC sounds awesome but I'm not even close to through the game yet. I'm too anal with inventory management, doing every quest possible, and scrounging every drawer that it takes me too long. Seriously, I find a building not on my quest path and I have to go in it and destroy and pillage everything.
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 25th 2008 4:42PM
muffin & johnny-
not 1 piece of literature states that MS paid for the exclusive DLC for fallout 3...
heres some things you are missing to think about.
1) oblivion DLC never released on the ps3, only the shrivering isles expansion pack was released on the ps3 (MS never paid any money for that exclusive DLC)
2) check out the later quotes
3) look at betheseda games sales on the platforms
oblivion: 360 = 2.58 million sold, ps3 = .75 million sold.
fallout 3: 360 = .92 million sold, ps3 = .50 million sold.
(figures according to vgchartz.com estimates)
oblivion sold 3-1 and fallout 3 sold 2-1 on the 360 console.
quote from bethesda:
"I just wanted to say how much we love XBLM ... we'll be doing substantial exclusive 360 and Games For Windows downloadable content," said executive producer Todd Howard at the Microsoft E3 keynote today.
(it sounds to me like they like the sales on the 360 platform more than the ps3)
quote from sony:
Maguire rejected those complaints, saying he would "much rather that we (Sony) were investing money into making sure that we've got great R&D and we start producing games like LittleBigPlanet rather than paying other people a huge amount of money to stop people playing their product."
(R & D?? hmmm... blu ray should last a few more years, what are they thinking of next.. betamax 2.0... maybe too much being spent on r & d..)
pretty much he couldnt just say we dont have the money to spend on this right now because we are losing money everyday and taking losses as a corporation.
isnt sony the corporation that paid for heavy rain exclusive rights??
so its only ok to complain when MS does this?? lol..
securing rights is a big part of this new game market. it is important.
heck in sports securing the rights to specific players is the name of the game.
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 25th 2008 4:49PM
ray maguire from sony said:
"nothing is ever exclusive"
ummm... has he never heard of Mario, Zelda or Metroid? Smash Brothers? Star Fox or Kirby? Donkey Kong?

"we have the amount of money to invest in games rather than investing in stopping other people making games and progressing"
what does Mr. Maguire consider ps3 mirrors edge exlcusive DLC and heavy rain and haze exclusive rights.
where does sony hire these people that make these crazy comments that are off the wall..
i guess the fanboys listen though...

@matthew
We all know MS paid $50 million to get that GTA IV DLC exclusive to the 360. Seems pretty plausible to me that would have paid to get this DLC exclusive as well.
Oblivion released a year ahead on the 360 compared to the PS3. In fact it was exactly a year to the day (march 20th) and I think all of the DLC had already been released. I believe the GOTY edition released on the PS3 had all the DLC on the disc.
Bethesda announced that the 360 would have exclusive DLC at E3 and MS has a much larger install base so I'm honestly suprised Fallout 3 didn't do more than 2:1 on the 360. Honestly, the low sales totals on both platoforms indicate what we already knew about the congested holiday season. Look how much better GTA IV did inc omparison at a less congested time of the year.
I guess only time will tell if it was timed exclusive or if they release Fallout as a GOTY edition with the DLC on the PS3 disc. Makes more logical sense to me that it's either what MN guy said about them wanting to push people to the more profitable platform for them or that it was some sort of timed exclusivity agreement. Maybe it wasn't a bag of cash but it could have been incentives like MN Guy articulates. Either way it's all about the money. My point is that there is still money to be made by selling it on the PSN so there has to be some other financial incentive there otherwise why not sell it on both. Even if you sell half as many it's still profit.
Way to twist Maguires words around ... LOL pathetic ... What he pretty much said is that it doesn't make business sense to get into a bidding war with (an endless pit of windows money) Microsoft over timed exclusivity of add-on content. They are probably just happy to have the games - let the new guy pay for all the exclusive DLC he wants. What he was actually refering to was putting the money into developing new IP's that Sony has control over in the future like LBP, MAG & The Agency. This is as opposed to spending the money on exclusive content. The two aren't mutually exclusive but as well all know all sectors of busines are in trouble and Sony is no different due to the global economic crisis.
I don't see why you have to be such a twat about it though.
I knew I remembered you from before when your handle was Matt ... LOL now it all makes perect sense!
Sackolantern PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Nov 25th 2008 5:24PM
"nothing is ever exclusive"
You must be kidding me ... Can you even read at a 5th grade level or do you just enjoy always taking what people say out of context?
He was talking about DLC not first party games you twat.
"what does Mr. Maguire consider ps3 mirrors edge exlcusive DLC and heavy rain and haze exclusive rights."
In context he was talking about exclusive DLC you moron. How do Haze & Heavy rain even factor into the conversation at all? Those developers chose to make those games exclusive to the PS3 platform like we have seen with Gabe Newell and Left 4 Dead (EA may port it themselves). Not to mention his comments were recent and were talking about games that had been in development for years. He is not talkint about what they did in the past but what they are to do going forward.
Shows you how much I know because I never even heard about exclusive DLC for Mirrors Edge in the first place. Show me when that was announced please and how much they paid.
I do know that game was lead developed on both platforms - what EA is doing with all it's games to improve build quality on both platforms. Burnout paradise, Dead Space & mirrors edge all coem to mind there.
Sheesh some people man ...

mirrors edge exclusive ps3 DLC announced:
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/mirrors-edge-receiving-exclusive-dlc-on-ps3/
right here on joystiq.com johnny.
damn johnny you really always think your right.
once again johnny he cant make those comments and then try to secure exclusive DLC rights to games also.
it defeats the point he was making in his comment.
"we dont want to secure DLC and rather spend on R & D, however with Mirrors edge we make exceptions."
yes johnny the 50 mil spent on gta4 dlc is really the only true knowledge we have of MS paying for exclusive DLC rights.
what does that have to do with this anyway?
dont u think there would be some articles about how much MS spent on securing fallout dlc?
once again he cant explain that we have money to spend on first party titles and other necessary things, however we dont have the kind of money to throw around like we did before. the stock would dive overnight if he said that.
business' have to lie all the time to protect their image.
MS has the money to secure more DLC rights and they have also spent more money on first party titles. there are more first party games available on 360 than ps3, so his comment is twisted by DESIGN.. duh.

But how do you continue the campaign in Brotherhood DLC if you chose the good ending?
Or did a certain Radiation Immune Supermutant,Ghoul that can heal on radiation
,Slave with an EXPLOSIVE COLLAR that you could always set off and a non-sentient non-organic robot suddenly decide to stop "denying you your destiny"?
I was willing to swallow Emo-Vampires and Little Lamplight. Beth's laziness in the ending was the final straw.
Archon @ Nov 25th 2008 10:44AM
You know what Bethesda? Screw you! You messed up the PS3 version of one of my favourite franchises, released an unstable, rubbish code thingy, don't even plan on fixing that and NOW you decide not to release DLC on PS3. Yeah I know, Microsoft, bags of money, blahblahblah but anyway. Not only is it not a Fallout game - it's ONLY a game in Fallout universe - it's also a crippled game on the PS3. I paid you money Bethesda and a lot of it. I deserve tech support and bug fixing damn it!
I hate your generic tech looking GUI (the Pip-Boy's kinda cool though), Oblivion mechanics, the way conversation and skills work, oh and the low level cap. The comedie noir style of F2 is gone. No, the game's not terrible. It plays fine, it's fun blowing things up. But it's not the Fallout I've been waiting for.
Also, you still can't make realistic looking faces. From now on you should create games about people with no heads. I think you could do that right. Go to silicon covered face hell.
Uh. I feel much better now.

It's not Bethesda's fault the PS3 is apparently a bitch to develop for. At least they haven't abandoned it completely like Valve.
Archon @ Nov 25th 2008 11:07AM
@Neuromancer: your information is very out of date.
Also, that's a very BAD excuse for a game developer. If independent devs can do it and not moan (Linger in Shadows made by scene people), other devs can do it with great results (Burnout Paradise), there's just no excuse.
Park Zero @ Nov 25th 2008 11:55AM
Sorry about your PS3 trouble. One of the reasons I bought a 360 is because it was the lead platform for Fallout 3. That being said, I can’t agree with your rant. Fallout is my favorite franchise as well and Fallout 3 is the game I have been waiting a long time for. It may be a new camera angle but it feels like fallout to me. Yes the humor is there as well via radio stations and random events.

That is pretty annoying how it pauses when you get an online notafication. It's not even an online game so I don't see why that would happen in the first place other than shotty code. The only suggestion I can make (what I did) is either 1. deal with it or 2. Don't log into your PSN account while playing the game. I only encountered one other bug and that was before my "GOAT" test ... I sat in my seat and the test never started so I just re-loaded and sat in a different seat then BAM it worked.
I haven't had any bugs other than those two (yet?) so I think both version are pretty much equal. Rockstar and Take 2 need to take notice about this DLC. Release shortly after your game comes out because if you don't no one will give a shit about it.
The game is awesome and any other year would probably win GOTY hands down. The pausing thing can certainly ruin the experience (though it's only about 1/2 second of pause) so I just don't log into my PSn account. I hope they patch that eventually though. The shame of it all is how fantastic Oblivion was on the PS3. They also need to patch trophies in already.
koehler83 @ Nov 25th 2008 10:47AM
I couldnt get into Fallout enough to beat the game.. not even close for that matter. I think I got to level 5 and uninstalled. Definitely not interested in paying MORE.
