360 has 'biggest ever sales week' in Europe (thanks, economy!)
While price cuts and Fable 2 appeared to boost Xbox 360 sales over here in the new country, in Europe – a magical land comprised mostly of stone buildings and quaint traditions – Microsoft is attributing "its biggest ever sales week" to something entirely foreign here in the colonies: family. While the current economic crisis has turned most American families (a term we use loosely) to disband and, in extreme cases, sell each other for lunch money, "British families are set to spend more quality time together than in the last ten years this Christmas." Uh, thanks economic downturn?
Unfortunately, the press release doesn't mention specifics for this record-breaking week, instead recalling the recent 7 million consoles milestone in Europe while trumpeting the upside of an economic crisis (families!). But this line of reasoning isn't limited to Europe; it works in America too! "Out of work? Hours cut at the factory? Starving? Consider an escape from your troubled existence with Xbox 360." Catchy, eh?

glad you got it all out of your system? :)

Not that great, considering PS3 has spanked it badly all year.
Just like Japan, you get a couple of weeks of good 360 sales, and Microsoft are shouting from every rooftop. The times they arn't shouting, is when it's going badly. I don't recall Sony shouting from rooftops when they obliterated Microsoft's 7week Japan run, in a single friggin week..
Snowblind @ Nov 26th 2008 6:57PM
I wouldn't say the PS3 "spanked" it. The sales of the PS3 have only slightly been above the 360's, and even then only for the past few months. The 360 was leading at the begining of the year, and more recently it's been well above the PS3.
And beating Microsoft in Japan wasn't exactly anything to be proud of.

Digdug, what the hell are you talking about? All throughout the first year of the PS3s existance when it was losing exclusives left/right, bad sales, etc you would non-stop hear PR agents, execs and other's talking out their asses like they were king of the world and going to overtake the xbox 360 soon.
'This, will be the year of the PS3'....well, no, not that year....THIS next year. Yeah yeah, this time we'll do it. Ok ok, maybe not that year but NEXT year trueeeely is the YEAR* of the PS3.
*Year may be limited to one to two months, only in Japan and possibly Europe.

Oh please Microsoft, family has nothing to do with your sale figures. We know you're trying to make the 360 into a family machine, but there's no need to lie!
Everyone knows that families go for the Wii. They always will.
The reason for the sudden spurt of sales is the huge price cuts, which has been lapped up by Nintendo's hardcore. Those who could only previously afford one console are now taking up the oppurtinity to get a second console. A prime example of such people is, you know, me.

Real European families read books to each other while sitting in the living room in front of an open fire.
Jake B @ Nov 26th 2008 3:44PM
Lies! Hitler said that families spent their time touring the Autobahn in a finely crafted German automobile.

Europeans either a) go out to eat baguettes, smoke and drink wine or b) climb mountains and yodel, with their hair in neat symmetrical pigtails.
It's a national passtime.

My launch 360 RROD on me out of the blue today after a bit more than two and a half years. I knew my surviving launch console lasting out this long was too good to be true but a least its inside the extended warranty.
Oh well, I can't say it wasn't a fun ride and while it lasted it's been shipped off in the next few days for a few weeks maybe I can finally write up my report and get some bloody work done!

Related: ASDA opened the one-day 20%-off offer yesterday for its colleagues up to include Music, Video and Games this year. I bought four 360 games.
