Columbia Pictures movies (mostly) available again for NXE Netflix streaming

One week after their abrupt disappearance from the service caused quite a stir, many of the Columbia Pictures films that were unavailable for streaming via the New Xbox Experience's Netflix client are now back. We've confirmed that almost everything, from Ghostbusters to The Karate Kid in your Netflix Instant Queue can now be streamed to the 360.
There are still some that aren't available (Superbad stands out) but this could be due to another aspect of the "availability" issue briefly explained last week on the Netflix blog. At least we know it's not a Sony conspiracy.
[Thanks, Alex]

Tiptup300 @ Nov 26th 2008 5:15AM
I'm not on good terms with Netflix. This week sucked, I had to use all my money on other things so it left me 20 bucks for food for 2 weeks. Which would be fine, I have plenty of ramen and cereal, so I'd be good. Well, when I went for the Netflix free trial, they took out two orders of 9.89, which were refunded, but my card won't get the 20 bucks back till it's posted or something which can take up to 4 weeks. Long story short, netflix screwed me anally. >_>
Deprincer @ Nov 26th 2008 6:44AM
I'm sorry netflix screwed you... I was referring to the Joe Esposito song, "You're The Best". (karate kid)
BananaBoat @ Nov 26th 2008 11:28AM
If you subsist on nothing but ramen and cereal, you might want to cancel the Netflix and get some protein every now and then. That is like...carbs, carbs, and more carbs.
Oh and...

Tiptup, Netflix doesn't want you to get scurvy. Buy some citrus instead.
frnndz1nico @ Nov 26th 2008 1:38AM
who would want netfilx if you could stream any video site from the ps3 for free?
Chin-Poh @ Nov 26th 2008 1:40AM
For those that DON'T have a PS3 but only a 360. : /
Killjebus @ Nov 26th 2008 1:52AM
The fact that it is FREE is why a 360 would not want it. Free is a 4 letter word to MS.
Chin-Poh @ Nov 26th 2008 2:02AM
I agree Killjebus, $20 for a proprietary controller charger, $20 for an adaptor to use the wireless controller on PCs, $100 for the fucking Wi-Fi adaptor (is that still the MSRP!?)
At least the NXE update was free. : )
Snowblind @ Nov 26th 2008 6:58AM
I don't understand this argument from PS3 owners. You're the guys who've been trying to convince us that blu-ray is the way forward. But here you're trying to claim that streaming youtube quality videos is superior, because it's cheaper.
Skipjimroo @ Nov 26th 2008 7:24AM
"who would want netfilx if you could (sic) stream any video site from the ps3 for free?"
BBC Iplayer disagrees with you sir.
Much to my chagrin.
justshovejayohbe @ Nov 26th 2008 8:52AM
watch video on cbc.ca instead, it's way better than bbc
Duke @ Nov 26th 2008 10:01AM
Damn you guys still can't deal with reality. People would want netflix because they have a 360 and the option is there to watch movies. Why is everything a Sony v MS fight? You sound like such tools.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 26th 2008 10:34AM
Seriously do you sony trolls have nothing better to do than troll a console that your mother didn't buy for you? Seriously, it's getting ridiculous.
@Snowblind
Completely agree. And thus we understand how some sony fanboys are have such a blind loyality to a console that they're willing to be complete hypocrites.
Vidikron @ Nov 26th 2008 10:39AM
"Seriously do you sony trolls have nothing better to do than troll a console that your mother didn't buy for you? Seriously, it's getting ridiculous."
In all fairness, this has been happening to PS3 posts for years now. Yes, it's ridiculous, but there's just no comparison between what happens in your typical 360 post the typical PS3 post.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Nov 26th 2008 10:55AM
Sigh, yeah you're right.
Killjebus @ Nov 26th 2008 11:40AM
"But here you're trying to claim that streaming youtube quality videos is superior, because it's cheaper."
Go ahead put words in my post that were NOT there. I streamed from my PC to my PS3 but I doubt I will do it again anytime soon. I am spoiled by the CLARITY of Blu-ray...everything else....is KAYRAP.
So go right ahead and stream your Chumpvision movies using your $100 wifi adaptor that MS raped you for...what you do in the privacy of your own home with MS is your business. (unless Proposition 8 comes your way)
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 26th 2008 1:03PM
It'd be great if the 360 crew would step off. There are plenty of jackasses to go around in both crews. Don't try to act like your own side are saints.
sk8monroe81 @ Nov 26th 2008 2:01PM
do these ps3 fanboys/gals understand that you can you use a $ 20 wifi adapter for the 360?
u dont have to use the official one first of all.
second most of us probably use a wired connection anyway.
heck i use a wired connection on my ps3 to avoid interference, disconnections, more stability, more consistent speeds.
a lot of online gamers prefer a wired connection anyway.
youre arguement is weak and from 2005 anyway. get a life.
and you gotta love the fanboys who say they can stream for free.. wow. have fun.
i prefer blu ray/netflix quality over streaming anyday.
Duke @ Nov 26th 2008 2:21PM
Funny you go on and on with blu-ray when that has nothing to do with this.
People now have the abilty to watch some streaming videos on top of getting their rental discs in the mail. Thats it. A simple nice option for people that actually works pretty nicely.
Yet Killjebus has to do the typical hating and twist the situation to make it look like MS is screwing you. Damn dude. Your fanboyism knows no bounds.
In A World (XBL) @ Nov 26th 2008 6:14PM
"do these ps3 fanboys/gals understand that you can you use a $ 20 wifi adapter for the 360?

Actually you can't. I've tried. As far as I know you can only use the official adapter. If you can tell me with certainty and give a specific brand and model that you know will work, then I'll gladly go out and buy it on Friday.
LameDuck @ Nov 27th 2008 10:58AM
hurrrrr wireless bridge hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Seriously, do some googling before you open you're mouth. I have an HP and Linksys wireless bridge that allows any wired internet connection to connect to a wireless access point. I also have a Linksys router that does the same thing with DD-WRT. All of them were 30 bux, the HP one was free, and they work great with the PS3, 360, and older PCs. Hell, I had it hooked up to an Amiga with a old serial network adapter.
TL;DR: Research before you fanboy.
Trey @ Nov 26th 2008 2:09AM
If I were Sony, I would be making this a conspiracy. I for one, see no reason to EVER buy a blue-ray movie while this feature lurks in my 360. Ever.
Killjebus @ Nov 26th 2008 2:43AM
Then you do not have an HDTV, or if you do...you do not have an HD signal going to it...or you have the eyesite of an earthworm.
Streaming movies over the internet at current speeds looks NOTHING like a Blu-ray movie. NOTHING
John @ Nov 26th 2008 6:42AM
Come on Killjebus, these are the same people that think upconversion is "ggod enough" for them.
I am using the streaming for movies I was "meh" about or history channel stuff, or tv shows, it sure beat waiting for the damn torrents to download.
Plus they have Charles in Charge on there, best show evar
xGeneral DEATHx (Mr ESC Welcome Back Party Ultimate Mega Action Force) @ Nov 26th 2008 9:10AM

Kaws1986 @ Nov 26th 2008 10:24AM
Please, Sony has nothing to worry about. This service is only available to the 20 to 25 million 360 owners. Nobody is going to go out and buy a 360 and pay for a gold membership just to use the netflix service. Older folks and other people in general will go out and buy a Blu Ray player if they want to watch HD movies. Then you have the 15 million or so PS3 owners who purchase Blu Ray DVD's. Downloading movies will never overtake DVDS or HD DVDS.
Professor Lario @ Nov 26th 2008 10:34AM
I agree. I own both consoles and at this point am fine streaming the HD Netflix. Blu-ray is a great technology, but why spend $20 for a disc when I can pull HD content from Netflix? The only thing I am missing is the 7.1...
Vcize @ Nov 26th 2008 10:52AM
Killjebus, you're being a little uneven here.
Up top, you agree with a guy that no one should care about streaming netflix in HD when you can stream a bunch of barely DVD-rip quality movies on the PS3.
Then, you say that streaming netflix in 720p is worthless in comparison to watching a blu-ray in 1080p with a higher bitrate.
True as it may be that streaming HD is far from blu-ray quality, it's still a LOT closer than streaming SD is to streaming HD, of which you seem to think the difference isn't a big deal.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 26th 2008 11:40AM
Streaming doesn't really compete well with discs.
There's the quality issue already discussed. And then there's the fact that movies just disappear from streaming.
You used to be able to stream Pirates of the Caribbean. But it's no longer available now. If you thought "I don't need to buy it, I can stream it", you got a rude awakening.
If you want to own something, buy the BluRay or DVD. Streaming is more like HBO, where there's a lot of things available every month, but you can't be sure what they will be.
frnndz1nico @ Nov 26th 2008 1:44AM
huh? right...
DesertPyrate @ Nov 26th 2008 1:57AM
Why bring a PS3 its not necessary, I have a PS3 and it dont work with Netflix, I currently am a netflix user and 360 owner so this is a bonus, oddly enough I sent the "tip" about this when I saw "Hook" in my instant queue. PS3's last update hasnt made web video support any better, I saw something about a few tweaks coming tomorrow, I hope its an improvement. Anyways Cobra Kai!!!! I gladly own all 3 systems but at the moment the 360 sweeps the leg!
eNrique @ Nov 26th 2008 3:10PM
desertpirate
FYI the PlayStation 3 can stream Netflix, in fact, it's been able to do so for about a year now, get your facts straigh, if you don't known the capabilities of your Ps3, don't say they don't work, or you will end up like an ass to Ps3 Fanboys or, up-voted by 360 ones.
So welcome to 2007 microsoft.

I always wanted to see Heavy Metal and was excited to see that it was Play Instant since I have the service. But then I get message "Lol not for xbox", so hoepfully it's one of the titles.

"my fucking shit Superbad is so great."
I don't understand this statement, the only punctuation you have is by far the least important in this sentence. The way I read it now, you're saying that your "fucking shit", named Superbad, is great. Period.

I can answer ur original question behind, because the ps3 does only flash.....doesnt have a divx player ( unless u know how to work a linux program , which guess what 90% of users dont know) and the quality doesnt look pretty( and thats being nice.)..unlike on the 360 which netflix gives HD streaming on it's titles....so if u wonder why i chose this over the ps3...that's why.
