I spent more time with John Elway on the NES, but I've been watching this Tecmo release pretty closely. I may pick this up just for the wi-fi battles.

David, I think your review is a little off, just like most reviews for the game. The things reviewers have dinged the game for, including you, aren't part of Tecmo Bowl. Yeah, football games have evolved, but this game has never been positioned to follow that evolution.

The rubber band defensive AI is there because if you call the wrong play on defense and a receiver is left all alone downfield, that'd be a sure touchdown without it. The zig-zag running still works, so big plays are still in abundance. Cycling through your receivers has always been part of the skill of playing Tecmo Bowl, and the stylus controls offer a good alternative for those who don't like the cycling mechanic.

Wifi play is a much different experience from the score-fest of solo play. Wifi is a defensive struggle, where abilities like the Tugboat are pretty huge. Lag isn't too bad and only has an impact on kicking, for which you can learn to compensate. The only thing I'm not a fan of, particularly in Wifi play, is there are a ton of turnovers.

I agree with the general sentiment of your review, though...this is for those of us who played the original Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Super Bowl to death. I'd be surprised if those who never played it would appreciate it.

There is one omission that is worth mentioning....In the play select menu there is no way to see what yard line you are on which can be a big problem when deciding if you want to kick a field goal or not...

Great review, and I agree this may not be for everyone, but I'm sure a company who can make Triple A titles realizes that. This is for the fans and those who remember being glued to the only football game that mattered. Thanks Tecmo!

At first when I started reading, I thought I had made a bad purchase(Christmas gift for myself teehee). But, I got it for $15 on Black Friday at Amazon, so it seems well worth it. The other comments seem to love it, and I love good ol' Tecmo Bowl, so why not?
