Mirror's Edge dev bummed over curvier Faith

A larger-chested version of Mirror's Edge heroine Faith made the web rounds last month, leaving piles of controversy in her wake ... well, controversy and irreversibly stretched-out tank tops. Her face is a bit different too, as we're sure you noticed.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the image was fairly depressing for one of the game's producers. As Tom Farrer told MTV: "We really wanted to get away from the typical portrayal of women in games, that they're all just kind of tits and ass in a steel bikini. We wanted her to look athletic and fit and strong [enough] that she could do the things that she's doing."

It's a noble goal, and our hope is that it's one most people "got." Do you have a preference of Faiths?

i prefer the one on the left.

I love that there's debate over what amounts to a lonely Asian gamer photoshopping his ideal woman.

I don't really want to get into the whole "which fake girl is hotter" (I don't go in for drooling over women that don't actually exist), but I do think the left one is far more unique-looking and stylised to the game, whereas the one on the right is somewhat generic looking. Yawn.

I understand your point, but to make the argument more interesting, Faith was modeled after a real person, as I understand it. Look up "Bai Ling" to compare.

It really can't be that cold on the rooftops. Hint: Stare at the second pic for 4 more seconds.

I know your going for the whole nipple joke (which was done already) but it actually is VERY cold on rooftops most of the time (ok maybe not in the blazing sun of the summer).

the 1st one looks great, the second looks like it has ANIMEface.

I don't really care...I would have preferred the original because big breasts are overrated actually...and unrealistic that she could do the stuff she does with them.

Before commenting on the obvious, I'd like to say that the eye tattoo makes her so much more badass. The Faith on the right looks much more scared than tough.

Now, about the boobs: Notice how the boobs weren't the issue until some dude posted this pic. It's because Faith's character is able to be by itself, without enlarged breasts. Now, I'm all for big boobs and find the picture quite arousing (but nowhere near as arousing as some of you assholes find her to be), but I play the game for the experience of the first-person running, and even if she had double D's, how would they play into the game mechanic (subtle momentum issues aside)?

So, does this mean that Mirror's Edge 2 will feature a bustier Faith and her conflict with her new bra squeezing her too tight?

Ohhhh, so instead of being Chinese, Faith is actually Filipino! I see.

Left Faith is Man Tier.

If I were king of the world--you know, like Genghis Khan XXI in an alternate timeline--I would behead all tattoo artists who ever skankified women. So needless to say, I'm with you there.

The one on the left. The one on the right looks like a 12 year old girl in the face. I could care less about the chest size. Each one has their place in gaming.

The 'artist' unslanted her eyes, too. Making a statement about Asian women?

I like the one on the right, the left want was too ugly, it looked like a chinese transvestite the right one looks more feminine, the should turn down the titties a little bit and we could have a great new character.

Honestly, the main thing that grabbed me in that first trailer was Faith's looks, that she was different from most games piqued my interest. I am somewhat disappointed by the change in art style, as I honestly prefer the one on the left. The original art was unique and defining, while the one on the right just vomits "generic" all over the whole affair. Which is terrible.

I think the left one is better.

The entire discussion is about such subtle things. The fact remains that women are presented as sexual objects in the media. Women present themselves as sex objects in the real world. Bloody eight year olds have cameltoe and bare midriffs these days. This is not healthy. Not in the least.

Yes, men are presented in the same weird ideal light, but the most men do is go out and buy shiny shirts and gel their hair. They don't go to the lengths women and girls do to try to be what they think they should be.

And everyone here is just talking about tits.

I like original faith. I think that sucks, you create this character the way you want it, and then someone says "make her tits bigger" and totally changes it in hopes more people buy it. Same thing happened to Kira Knightly's action figure from Pirates. They totally made her boobs bigger and she was upset. Pretty sad.

If they wanted to avoid stereotypes they could have tried maybe making her eyes a wee bit less slanty.. or emphasize it less with the eye makeup.

They both look hot to me, in different ways.
Some of you guys seem to have pretty narrow tastes.
That's not a criticism, just an observation.

The one on the left looks taunt, lean and athletic.
If she looks like a crack addict to you is probably because she is a rebel element in a totalitarian controlled society.

The one of the right looks softer and more feminine. All of you saying large breasts don't interfere with athleticism are kidding yourselves. You *can* be athletic with large breasts, but they really don't help, and they really are heavy. My friend with large breasts wants breast reduction surgery because they are causing her upper-back pain.

Just for the record, I agree that the original Faith was hot already. The other one doesn't fit the profile, but is still hot as well.

i like the face of the one on the right (i just dont like tattoos) and the chest of the one on the left. their not really small, just average, besides, not including implants, mostly fat chicks have really large breast. its just more realistic with the one on the left.

I'll take the face of the left with the body of the right. The altered face looks too young!

Big tits rarely feel good (unless you like the haptics of water balloons) and they very rarely look tight (after you got rid of that bra-swindle)

although softening the face does add the ability to express more, it also de-ages her. It sucks in a way that it can also be interpreted as distancing themselves from the 'asian look'. Its actually good to go more cartoony less realistic though cause attempting realistic means you hit the brick wall called the uncanny valley. Its ashame people seem to prefer toddler faced sticks with boobies gigantes Yes some athletes have boobs but why does people think muscular fit people means skinny? my doctor is a marathon runner and she looks like the pic on the left and man is she gross.

point is mute though since you see her bod in the game so little. being first person and all...

so basically, the photoshopped one has been anime-ized. Horray... I prefer the original just because its different in a sea of big tit crofts

The original Faith is much better- she suits the character and the story well. The extra boobage in the second picture is so unnecessary, and the whole widening of the eyes and face, and getting rid of the tattoo and makeup is just ridiculous. It's almost funny when someone takes a female character who's obviously not following the traditional gaming stereotype of "omg she has to be a generic supermodel" and basically tries to make her into one, until you realize it's just sad.

Can we really not deal with a female character actually looking kinda, I don't know, NORMAL and, in this case, realistically athletic? Is all we care about looks and not everything else that makes up the character? Does every character in videogames, particularly the protagonist, have to be an idealization of the human body?

I prefer the body of Faith that was made with the game but the photoshopped face looks alot better. Nothing wrong with being both athletic and having a pretty face ;)

I prefer the original because she totally has ass kicking bitch written all over her. I don't care for the remade fan version it looks to anime and overdone. seriously why did they make her eyes bigger they should of kept them the same they were just trying to make her look white.
