MTV beats some Fallout 3 DLC deets out of Bethesda
Not content with just the details Bethesda was willing to part with about the upcoming Fallout 3 DLC, MTV's Stephen Totilo grabbed his brass knuckles, donned his fedora with the "Press" card tucked under the band and pounded on the e-door of PR man Pete Hines until he gave up some answers.
In terms of scope, it looks like you'll want to (sadly) think smaller than Oblivion's massive Shivering Isles and more along the lines of Knights of the Nine, which ran $9.99. Also, it looks like you'll access the new stuff in-game rather than through a menu (à la Oblivion.)
That's pretty much all Totilo managed to get out of Hines, even though he tuned the poor guy up pretty good. Where'd he learn to fight like that? Why, from the best, of course.

I am so pissed right now. I was around 75 hours into Fallout 3 on my PS3 and the sucker won't even read any disks anymore. 14 months after owning it :(. My 360 sounds like death and it is a launch model but is still trucking.
Rollins @ Nov 26th 2008 10:47AM
I'm pretty sure your 360 sounds like death by virtue of being a 360. :)
I know my launch 360 sounds somewhat like a wind turbine.
Haggard @ Nov 26th 2008 11:12AM
Copy your saves onto a USB stick if possible.
LordChimp @ Nov 26th 2008 11:43AM
Yeah, I already copied files to a USB Flashdrive and Sony told me to reformat by system since it can fix some problems. Well, I think it made it worse.
Chin-Poh @ Nov 26th 2008 11:55AM
That's what happened to my PS3 when I got 10 hours into GTA4, sorry dude. Is it an older or newer model?
I hope its still under warranty or they make you pay roughly $150 for the repair, when its a build quality defect like the RROD and should be free. >:(

Hey anyone been to any of the other vaults in Fallout 3 besides 101,87, and the one with the crazy guy in that autoshop garage. All I have found is those three and vault 82, and 106
LordChimp @ Nov 26th 2008 10:45AM
Which vault had the people that were all clones and kept yelling "GARY!?"? I laughed so hard in that vault.
shawn @ Nov 26th 2008 10:57AM
theres not literally hundreds of vaults but there are a few more, you get to see them on your map when you get further into the game i think or you could look at the "google" map on the planet fallout site.
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Nov 26th 2008 11:11AM
Go to the Brotherhood of Steel Citadel (a bit further SE of the THOSE!! quest trigger, which is directly S of the Super Duper Mart), and access all the terminals in the area past the lab (A Ring I think). One of them has the locations and details of a good half a dozen vaults, though you'll have to trek there - no quick travel.
baby sea tuna @ Nov 26th 2008 11:19AM
I believe you need to go to 92...or is it 112?...to complete "Agatha's Song". If you find Agatha's House she'll tell you which one to go to.
I also stumbled on 108 (which is full of those creepy "Gary" clones and a charisma bobblehead) last night while looking for computers to hack. I was told that the Vault-Tec building had a list of the locations, but I could never find the key to the mainframe.
Oh, and if you haven't already, go home to Vault 101. They need your help.
Park Zero @ Nov 26th 2008 10:49AM

LeadBoxx @ Nov 26th 2008 11:00AM
I have all those songs running through my head after playing for so long. "They have things like the atom bomb, so I stay right were I OM."
LeadBoxx @ Nov 26th 2008 11:03AM
Shawn you are dumb as I don't think he was saying anything like that at all. You fool! Foolish SUCKA!
Park Zero @ Nov 26th 2008 11:11AM
@ Shawn
Oh, but I do want the dlc. That was just a song from fallout 3 that gets stuck in my head.
shawn @ Nov 26th 2008 12:12PM

Hi Stephen
Stephen Totilo @ Nov 26th 2008 11:54AM
Hey Brett
AwesomeTown @ Nov 26th 2008 10:59AM
In game for the DLC? Awesome.
$9.99 for Knights of the Nine length? Not awesome.
$5 each would be nice.
Park Zero @ Nov 26th 2008 11:22AM
I never played Oblivion. How long was the knights of the Nine? What was it? More quests?
AwesomeTown @ Nov 26th 2008 11:32AM
Well, it wasn't bad, but I don't think it was worth the $20 they were asking when it released. New quest line with a few more areas to explore. As long as I get more for my money than the Mass Effect expansion I got on the 360, I'll be happy.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 26th 2008 11:12AM
He did not say it was going to be 10 bucks. He just said the size and length will be comparable to Knights of the Nine. He did not actually say the price would be. Now, I am not saying it will be more or less cause it will likely be 10 bucks, but we can at least still hope for a little while longer that it will be reasonably priced.
AwesomeTown @ Nov 26th 2008 11:36AM
True. Hope is a good thing. I guess I just want it to be worth it. I spent 60 hours on my first playthrough on a $50 game. If it is $10, I just hope it is at least 5 hours in length.
HighFiveJesus @ Nov 26th 2008 12:27PM
raise level cap
more radio stations/music to be heard
add several new perks,weapons
maybe some good armor that isn't some kind of power armor? (the ranger's is about the best i come across)
but more importantly, make the main quest one that you can deviate from if you are good/bad enough because its dumb that i still have to play along to save the world as an evil incarnate.
also get a patch out for the pc version thru steam. my suite is currently unavailable right now and i DON'T KNOW WHY
343 Guilty Fart @ Nov 26th 2008 12:41PM
What do you mean by "access the new stuff in-game rather than through a menu (à la Oblivion.)"? I don't know about you, but I talk to people in-game to get the Knights of the Nine questline started, and I go to that one island in-game to take the portal to Shivering Isles.
PeterBeck @ Nov 26th 2008 12:51PM
Ditto. Though I was wondering if the Brotherhood of Steel quest DLC was gonna be done through the menu considering they've said it continues the story after the end of the game.
Danny @ Nov 26th 2008 1:30PM
"access the new stuff in-game rather than through a menu (à la Oblivion.)" --That statement makes no sense. You download Knights of the Nine (or even The Shivering Isles), and there is no need to access any "menu." Those quests are just merged right into the regular game. At least, that's the way things are on the Xbox 360.
On a sidenote, I refuse to buy any Bethesda products new because they don't properly support their products. When Fallout 3 was announced, they quit patching Oblivion even though a couple of gamestopping bugs (and many minor bugs) still existed. A community patch on PC existed to fix the bugs when Shivering Isles was released, but Bethesda couldn't be troubled to port the patch when they submited Shivering Isles for certification. Their response to all bugs left in Oblivion on the 360 is "reload from a previous save point". There's actually a gamestopping bug I've encountered at 180 hours into the game. I do the main quest last. Anyway, I would have to reload to 60 hours into the game to avoid the bug and lose 120 hours of gameplay. I e-mailed Bethesda and they told me that they had "moved on to other projects" and that no more Oblivion patches would be forthcoming (even though Shivering Isles got patched AFTER I e-mailed them). Of course, all this took place a long, long time ago.
Anyway, they make buggy products, and then nickel and dime you with downloadable content. They patch SOME of the bugs in their games, the ones that get the most complaints, and then simply quit supporting their projects once the new one is announced.
For those reasons, I won't be buying Fallout3 until there is a "game of the year edition" with all the downloadable content on the disc, and until there are several patches. Even then, I'll try to avoid buying it new and buy it used.
d3athcr4ft @ Nov 27th 2008 12:47AM
In Oblivion, you had the option to turn DLC on and off from the main menu. As long as it was on (which was the default), you could access the new stuff from within the game.
Having this ability was rather pointless, since there was really no reason to turn off your DLC (horse armor notwithstanding). In fact, turning off the DLC could break your game if your last save was in a DLC area that doesn't exist in the normal game (like Shivering Isles) and you go and turn it off. Not sure why Joystiq felt the need to bring it up since few people even knew about it.
Robert @ Nov 30th 2008 12:46PM
Anyone know if there will be achievements?
