I rather have the install for
1) make the game load faster
2) more important, less strains on the media drive, motor and laser.

+1

If you can't wait 10 minutes to do an install after waiting three years for the game, then you ahve serious issues...

and like i commented before if you bring the, "but i'm running out of space on my hard-drive" to this discussion you need to be slapped...

Killzone 2 will feature very little loading times. This game is designed specifically for it to be STREAMED off the disc. Loading times will be near invisible as the data is streaming off the disc.

See:

Blu-Ray (Less compression on textures) + Cell processor (Good at streaming) + big budget for KZ2 (Streaming can be a bit hard to implement) = little to no loading times.

I would rather it be optional as well. I have a 320 GB hard drive, I would install the whole game if I could.

Same here, doesnt hurt to make it optional as most games are opting for. Its a win-win situation that way. Hope this doesnt become a issue were loading is later blamed on the blu-ray again :-\

I agree with you, rice.

Developers should let the user choose if he/she wants to install the game on the HDD.
Some games really go hard on the Blu-Ray drive.
Thinking about the lens on the PS2, I'm worried about the Blu-Ray drive dying on me too fast.

Some user don't like installing, but some users prefer it.
So they(developers) should definitely put in, an optional install feature.

Your PS3 will be fine. It was made to spin the disc, anyway. Worrying about the BluRay drive just because you have to spin a disc isn't really giving Sony credit for the quality of the system.

I guess I'm just used to my 360, which sounds like a jet engine as the disc is read.

That said, the less my optical drive is used, especially in a combo system, the better.

Let the installs be optional, but don't take them out all together, that's just goofy especially seeing as Microsoft has now made it a very publicized benefit (it's the best thing to come out of the NXE for me, that's for sure)

Funny because 360 fanboys would complain about HDD instals for the PS3. Then all of a sudden MS does it and the fanboys just go with it, forgeting that they ever bashed on Sony for instals. Just goes to show that Sony is leading this generation with the inovations.

I would like to make it clear that I am in favor of installs (optional or otherwise) but I'm not worried about the drive going to hell because the PS3 has to spin the disc.

Call me crazy, but I don't think a ten-minute installation is that bad. If you ARE a Killzone fan with ADD, don't you think it would be worse to not have an installation? Now with the longer load times in between gameplay, that translates to longer times in which you could get distracted with other shiny objects.

Is no one else absolutely amazed by the fact that this game has doesn't have an install, even though this game is going to so graphically fantastic? I thought that this game would have a huge install, like Bioshock.

If it has managable load times, then it's a good thing theres no install. It's shaping up like Guerilla Games could show just about everyone how to program for PS3 now.

IDK, They did the same thing for Resistance 2, no HDD instals. Reason why was because the game and level loaded during the cutscenes. maybe thats what their doing in Killzone 2, having the level load while the cutscenes are going on. Plus they are useing defered rendering so the game will run smoothly even without the instal.

Resistance 2 does have an install, its just very small. The first time you load up the game it says its "initializing" or something like that, and if you look at the back of the box it says it uses a few hundred MB of HDD space.

As more developers get used to Blu-Ray, I think mandatory installs will become less common.

No that wasnt an instal. It was a patch for the game. the memory needed on the back was the memory need for the SP campain saved data.

Wow, amazing, now people are complaining it has NO install. If the dev team thinks the game does not need any install for the game to be running good, then the game just doesn't need it. They used their voodoo coding that's all.

Im fine with no install, happier to say the least because I cant upgrade my hard drive so I need all the space I can get plus look resistance has little install and it works fine little long to load but. Plus we do you need to say work on your disc drive when its there to use? I want everything my ps3 can do why not let it do that? Cause what is the point of not using the drive if its there? thats just wasted space and time and money on it, in that case. Plus COD games dont have install and they work really good. cheers.

I like to see more games get more optional HDD installation. If the 360 can have it, why not the PS3? We can choose to install or not.

Have you guys ever heard R2 loading // spinning the drive a lot, especially at beginning of stages? Stuff like that = I hate, which is why I rather have install (optional would better since not everyone would want install).

It's not bitching and complaining, it's your personal opinion like how you have yours. If people didn't have opinions, this world wouldn't even work.

It should be optional... but I can see a point to it... also it's not really needed if the game is made for the system to take the BR into account.

I certainly have to praise for not forcing another install on our PS3, but I have to agree with the folks, surely an optional install would be fine to have.

Still, if this means they can pull off a game with small load times, its going to be sending a definite message out there to other developers, in a 'we did it, why cant you?' style.
