During its first-half fiscal 2008-09 conference call today, Ubisoft parried a question regarding the
Assassin's Creed sequel. While an Ubisoft executive would not confirm the game's release for fiscal 2010 (more specifically, holiday 2009),
le exec did concede that "we are working hard on the product" -- the first
real confirmation of its assumed development.
It seems that Ubisoft is sticking to
claims that an
Assassin's Creed sequel won't be released until there is "more anticipation for it." So let 'em know: You can't wait to get Altair's feet wet ... again! (Only this time,
literally.)

Hopefully this one won't suck
NaeemTHM @ Nov 26th 2008 1:24PM
Shut up stupid, the first game was great.
NaeemTHM @ Nov 26th 2008 1:25PM
Sorry, misread your name. I meant Shut up PeterF...but you can see why I would be confused.
PeterF @ Nov 26th 2008 1:27PM
Was that supposed to be funny?
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Nov 26th 2008 1:34PM
Was that not funny?
Superstar90 @ Nov 26th 2008 1:46PM
I think it was pretty funny.
Latin Trident @ Nov 26th 2008 2:05PM
You are very ungrateful! There are kids in third world countries still playing with the 1st ATARI! They would love to play AC.
BTW, I am almost done with the game and have not seen the image above before until now. I think Joystiq might have spoiled something for me...
Di3 @ Nov 26th 2008 3:03PM
Latin Trident, they didn't, that picture isn't relevant with the plot from Assasin's Creed 1. This was just a teaser for Assasin's Creed 2.
BTW IMO Assasins Creed 1 wasn't a great nor bad game. Great graphs, realy good climbing assasins shit system. But sometimes the A.I is really dumb and it was pretty boring in the last few chaps.
Lord Negatron @ Nov 26th 2008 3:04PM
Of course it sucks when you play it on your Nokia 5600...
:P
Mr.ESC Original Flavor Now Low on Sodium (May contain Win) @ Nov 26th 2008 3:06PM
Of course it was, you see when you say a regular sentence and end it on an insult is comedy. I mean it is in 90% of the anime.
Well I would like to take petey side but not with the exact same words.
The sci-fi twist was unnecessary and ruined the game plot completely because I don't you but a cheap cliffhanger is not a good way to start a franchise mean a cliffhanger ending is acceptable in the sequel (See Haloz) but not in the first game. I mean it wasn’t so effing fantastic that I'm in pain for a sequel.
There are other thing I can b*tch about like how the graphics look awesome at first sight but in close examination every freaking stage (Except for kingdom) is a box world in different tones of yellow, green, brown or grey with just some few different structures in the rich zones.
For a sandbox game is really short. Play the first 2 missions, rinse, repeat, end game.
Since this sequel is inevitable here are a few pointers.
1-Get rid of the flags FFS
2-Give Altair moar weapons.
3-Give Desmond Altair moves and let us play in the future (Although that would be like ripping off Mirrors Edge.)
4-Add some variety to side missions and make them fun.
5-Add some Boss fights or at least make Assassinations challenging.
Farmer @ Nov 27th 2008 4:26AM
@ Mr.ESC
It'll hardly be ripping off Mirrors Edge, as AC2 has been rumored to be in the future for AGES.
soapfoam @ Nov 27th 2008 3:53PM
Dude, it's "l'exec", not "le exec" at least get your French pseudoright if you're trying to imitate it! :p
ryana @ Dec 4th 2008 7:51PM
assasins creed was the shit they better release a second, they're wanting it to be more antisipated but if they just make the second one good and released it it would become popular and make them money
Jeff Mason @ Jan 7th 2009 6:13PM
Assassins Creed was an amazing game! sure it was simple, but who really wants to think that much when they are playing video games? Alot of ppl play video games so that they can kill fake ppl for fun! Assassins creed is a game where you have to figure out how to assassinate the target with out alerting everyone, thats the fun of it.
xFenixKnightx @ Nov 26th 2008 1:20PM
This makes me happy.
:)
AC was so much fun!
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Nov 26th 2008 1:32PM
It was alright...I did beat it though. I remember playing through about half way and then realizing I didn't need to do the missions, I could just go kill the guy and fight a million guards.
FlamingEffigy @ Nov 26th 2008 2:12PM
@CTC
You just explained why you only thought it was alright. You played it wrong, your not supposed to kill a million guards, your supposed to do it like an assassin, its more fun that way.
You cant expect a game to be fun if you dont put anything into it yourself and expect it to just inject fun into you instantly...
If you play the next one id suggest just trying to put yourself in the mind of the assassin, instead of just controlling him. Hopefully it'll change your mind about what i considered the best game in recent memory (hoperfully to be replaced by Prince of Persia if we're lucky)
Top Cat @ Nov 26th 2008 6:05PM
If that's the way youre "supposed" to play it then why didn't they encourage you to play like that?
The missions became superfluous quickly due to the fact that the information gained from them was virtually useless, coupled with the fact that the mini-games had no relevance to your target or even "reality".
That's not the gamers fault, that's the devs.
Hyams @ Nov 26th 2008 1:23PM
I struggled to get into the first one.
Still, I'll give it another go before the sequal comes out.
Chris @ Nov 26th 2008 1:32PM
Eh, who cares. I'd rather have Beyond Good and Evil 2.
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Nov 26th 2008 1:46PM
You can have both!
PojoMofo @ Nov 26th 2008 2:47PM
@ Ludwig
STOP, I can only take so much at one time.
AC2 and BG&E2 = stimulation overload!!

waves @ Nov 26th 2008 1:33PM
I enjoyed the plot of the first game, but I felt like I was grinding through the game just to reach the conclusion. Hopefully they can get a bit more creative with the gameplay in the sequel so I don't feel like I'm playing the same 3 missions over and over.
potato @ Nov 26th 2008 1:45PM
Agreed. I loved AC, but parts of the game were just tedious - especially the missions leading up to the actual assassinations. More variety in the "recon" missions you do before each big job would have made the game pure awesome.
That and more variety in combat - once you learn to counter you are basically unstoppable. It'd be nice for your enemies to learn some new tricks, instead of simply swarming you in ever larger numbers.
Titanium_Orchid @ Nov 26th 2008 3:23PM
I would also like to see more variety in missions and the mini-missions leading up to the missions.
It would also be nice to have a mini-crossbow weapon that was featured in the teaser trailers.
I liked the combat though.
BrokenBycicle @ Nov 26th 2008 1:34PM
AC holds a special place for me. It was my first 'next gen' game which I bought with the Xbox 360. Although it was frustrating at times, by and large I had an absolute blast.
Alien Lord @ Nov 26th 2008 1:34PM
I'll have to pre-order that soon, the first was an awesome game, btw if I find myself with no new games for a bit I should play AC through again.
Marik @ Nov 26th 2008 1:36PM
I would have to agree with the first poster. This was the most overrated, over hyped game, I was unfortunate enough to buy.
After 2 hours gameplay you have done everything you just continue to do them over again and again. Only so many times can climbing buildings to jump off seem entertaining.
I would expect the sequal to this does not sell half as many copies of the original.
Kudos to Ubisoft on thier marketing for the first one though. I got suckered into wasting my money on hype.
FlamingEffigy @ Nov 26th 2008 2:17PM
I nearly reported this comment for its stupidity.
All of the combat and movement in this game was entirely innovative - id never played anything like it before, and your saying you got bored after 3 missions? Every action or shoot em up game out there are made made up of the same basic mechanics repeated over a series of levels.
Im glad your not going to buy the next game, it'd be wasted on you.
Alien Lord @ Nov 26th 2008 2:29PM
@FlamingEffigy ignore him, I'd bet if you can't blow up something every few minutes in a game he wouldn't like it. Btw your point is very valid, basically all games use the same mechanics over and over again, it's the big picture that makes them fun.
Lord Negatron @ Nov 26th 2008 3:09PM
Oh unlike the first post you've upgraded to a SideKick 2...
Sorry to tell you but, AC would suck on that too.
:P
butaneko @ Nov 26th 2008 5:13PM
@FlamingEffigy Are you out of your mind? I hope your nearly reported comment was a joke.
I 100% agree with this comment. I also bought this game and after a few hours I was already hoping the gameplay had more to offer.
The two main components of this game are the movement and the combat:
- The movement was very cool at first but it's fundamentally unfun based on the fact that it's not challenging, there's no real problem solving element, and there's no sort of rhythmic or stylistic way to do it. After you've climbed a couple buildings you've basically seen it all.
- The combat is TOO EASY. You can win every fight. There's basically no incentive to be stealthy or crafty in your approach to combat because if you have to take on 50 guys you can win.
Combine these factors with sub-missions about as fun as those in Spider-Man 2 and boss fights that just boil down to mass brawls and this game really falls flat.
It's a game about half way through I couldn't wait to finish and sell. I thought it was very well-presented but the gameplay fell way short. I hope the sequel can improve on the first game. I'd be interested in playing it if these problems were corrected.
H Choi @ Nov 26th 2008 1:37PM
If the second game is as repetitive as the first one, then count me out.
ComicShaman @ Nov 26th 2008 1:47PM
I enjoyed the first game quite a lot. Sure, there was some repetition, but the fun of being Altair never got old for me. This series has a strong foundation as well as plenty of room for growth. I'm glad the first one sold well, and hope that gives them the budget and drive they need to crank out a kick-ass sequel.
Dirty @ Nov 26th 2008 1:48PM
Can we make Kristen Bell hotter in this one please.
xFenixKnightx @ Nov 26th 2008 1:57PM

Superstar90 @ Nov 26th 2008 1:51PM
I thought the first game was incredible, a second game is an instant-buy.
Marty @ Nov 26th 2008 1:59PM
They'd better be working on a sequel... after that ridiculous cliff-hanger ending on the first one, they practically owe us the next game for free.
The3rdNuisance @ Nov 26th 2008 2:00PM
After that bit with the "Piece of Eden" I'm not exactly certain I would care enough to play through a second one. I mean sure, it was great fun when I was able to find a bit of city without 500 guards per rooftop (Exaggeration!) but the story just kind of hit a wall. Traveling between those major cities in 15 minutes, fine, whatever, its a game, its acceptable. The magic? No. Doesn't work. Done playing. I'll see what they do, but I can't imagine them making up for the end of the first one.
Vol @ Nov 26th 2008 2:02PM
I liked AC and would buy the 2nd one.
Notes for improvements:
-Reduce the amount of horse riding between cities
-Create more attack varieties
-Make it less of a button masher in fights
Marty @ Nov 26th 2008 2:08PM
I always got my ass handed to me when all I did was mash buttons in fights - I thought they pulled that off rather well actually, where you are rewarded for reacting to the enemies' movements rather than constantly slashing non-stop.
Blank-Mage @ Nov 27th 2008 12:50AM
An assassin! Attack him, but one at a time, and at predictable intervals!
