Epic unleashes first Gears of War 2 patch

We asked for it, some even demanded it and now Epic is finally giving it by releasing a game improving Gears of War 2 patch.

Released earlier this morning (3:40AM pacific to be exact), the Gears of War 2 patch or "title update" will be insta-downloaded the next time you pop in your Gears 2 disc while connected to Xbox Live. The biggest change the update will bring is a fix to the long matchmaking wait times that were overkill, especially for one and four player parties. Epic's Rod Fergusson is optimistic that today's patch will squash Gears 2's online multiplayer problems, saying that he hopes "the matchmaking issues we've seen up till now are a thing of the past." Amen to that.

We're also informed that the Gears 2 patch will improve how stats are collected for GearsofWar.com and fixes the problem where some players couldn't access campaign when Xbox Live is down.

Nope, still getting sucked in from a mile away.

Since the patch, I see nothing has changed, ok maybe finding a game with one or four has gotten a little better but the lag is horrific when theirs lag.

Running around with no gun in hand is not the way I want to play Gears.

Nope, at least not for me.

Was fine before the update, absolutely fine. Now after the update I couldn't get a game even after an hour of trying.

Hopefully if epic decides to address the issue they will fix it the first time, not make it worse like the rodie run in Gears 1....

Did they fix that one bug where you're not alowed to play what game type you want on public multiplayer? You know, the one where you wait forever and then they force you to play some game mode that you didn't want to play?

That is actually a common glitch...

you spawn with an invisible weapon, no bullets register, ammo counter remains same, you cant harm anyone.. all ya can do is run around

we should be able to filter players by region, so us in the UK dont have to play Laggy matches against the Yanks & visa versa.

atleast have a region filter option.

How about you fix some real problems?

-Chainsaw glitch
-Out of map glitches
-Boomshield glitch
-Body shield glitch

I have personally never had a problem with matchmaking. If it ever took longer than 20 seconds, I just back out and search again and problem fixed.

Matchmaking is just as slow as ever for me.

It works .... my matchmaking times as single are down drastically. It used to be 15 minutes before, now I can get through 2-3 games in 15 minutes. Thanks Epic and Microsoft for working during the holidays and getting this out.

Did they fix anything? It feels like nothing was changed at all and it's still a lag infested glitch-fest fiesta.

I'd rather have the menus fixed. Sometimes menus will be totally unresponsive... Yesterday I went back to the campaign and it would load, restarted my xbox and ended up having to redo the whole chapter.

Then about 2 hours later I tried to do Horde and I hit start and the option to start the game went away, but I could change game modes and options...

I love the game, but god, the basics should work.

It would be much better if we could see the ping when playing the game too.

That or make online achievement conditions also possible with bots (Insane if you wish) so I can spend more time playing Horde online.

Lag in Horde isn't a big deal also is the best mode.

I see no change in matchmaking times for single person. I normaly play in a party of five guys but I'm pretty disapointed that I tried to jump on for one game today before family came over and I waited ten minutes per attempt just to be booted back to the multiplayer menu with the connection to host lost message.

bin playin for a wile and just played submission but the guy you get down disapered and it ruined the game and im still waiting for loading wen im wid 1 and 2 player rooms..... gears of war 1 styling games shud come bak!!

wtf is with this game? one of the biggest games of the year and the multiplayer barely works. then a patch is released and that doesnt work? are they intentionally trying to piss people off? its working.

Oh hey a multiplayer fix... wait what? Everything is the same??? Where are my lobbies for public games? Where is the player choice? Still nothing?!?! What the fuck!?!

You can keep the god awful matchmaking for ranked gametypes but please please please let us have a public section where players can search for games via lobby. I HATE playing with different random people each match, what is the polnt of playing a game on Xbox Live if it is so cold and impersonal. I want to make bitter rivals and friends playing my online games. Playing with random people every match is worthless, I might as well just fight bots with my friends. Atleast then I can control how I want the game setup.

I want 1000 points on this game but cant because i cant get into any multiplayer games! It sucks, and cant believe after the problems that GOW1 had that they didnt do a Beta, it was just obvious that it wasnt going to work without a Beta. Epic, for game of the year, its very sloppy.

I think everyone needs to be a little patient. Reading Rod's post, it says it might take a couple of days for things to iron out, so lets not start throwing a fit already.

The "Patch" probably was just some lame crap that doesn't do anything that they sent out and called it a "Fix". Hurray for epic, job not so well done!

Fix the god dam shotgun, and the lag. The first Gears was perfect, Then you make the 2nd one and fuck it. Like the old sayin says if it ain't borken don't fix it

Damn I can't wait till I get back home and test out the new matchmaking times. Too bad that won't be till Monday. At least I already have Rez HD queued up for purchase. Gotta love Black Friday without the retail visit.

I don't know, it still took a while for me to find a game. My team filled pretty quickly but looking for an opposing team is what ate up most of the time.

WTF? I was going to play Gears 2 on Insane friday night until the update. I put the disc in, and of course it said update. So I updated and after the game restart it went to the menu. The characters that you unlock from the previous game said they were unlocked. I thought huh? I already got them. I check my unlockables and achiecements, ALL GONE. Not the ones on the Xbox, but from the game. So for example, the Seriously 2.0 acheivement count is back at the beginning and it doesn't recognize that i've played a game yet.

So I have to start all over. Stupid update.

Matchmaking just can't be done with a one-party member, i've been searching for a match about one and a half hour! SHOMON!

Terrible lag still and I can't leave games, still the options are blank so if everyone leaves on my team I have to turn the 360 off and restart gears or play the game myself....

This hasn't been overly helpful for me. I'm one of those people getting the Gears of War: 2 Unreadable Disc Error notification (Replaced it twice, all other 2008 Xbox 360 titles work fine, only had Xbox for 2 months). I never play Xbox 360 Online anymore, too many little kids and people having fat sooks about how they can't use a Battle Rifle on Halo 3 with the one-month experience I had. I play games with friends from New Zealand, not freaky, 12-year old, spoilt lunatics from overseas.

But seeing as Microsoft have their brilliant customer-support, I can't exactly speak to anyone with any knowledge. If I have to pay for my Xbox to get fixed, i'm certain that one of my rights as a consumer has been breached.

It's about time the Justice department of the U.S actually take proper action instead of slapping their wrists with a fine what won't make a dent in their Revenue.

Are they going to put a EXP bar. I think that would be way better.
