Epic Games has released the first title update for its action-packed grunt-a-thon, Gears of War 2. The automagically applied patch addresses delays in public matchmaking (particularly for single- and four-player parties), improves the developer's ability to collect match statistics and fixes one non-hilarious issue which prevented some gamers from playing the Gears of War 2 campaign if Xbox Live was unavailable.
Now, about that Imulsion map ...

yeah, for some odd reason I never had any problems with matchmaking; I felt a little left out from the whining(which is fully justified)

my friend was having trouble getting a game the other day. he was trying to get a game in while i was watching Heroes on Hulu on my laptop. it took him upwards of 10 minutes to actually get a game but it ran fine when he got in. im sure he'll be excited about this update.

I STILL had problems with matchmaking after the patch came out. I have yet to successfully enter a Gears game in the last 3 days. and target was sold out of the $30 Halo 3 this morning so my Live fix is not being addressed :(

Skip halo, and stick with private matches in gears.

I say the opposite. Halo has some great Thanksgiving gametypes this weekend, complete with cultural commentary (Black Friday gametype=beat down central)

It's noticeably faster than before but it's still rather slow, especially in comparison to Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4. The actual game itself online is fantastic but there are a few niggling annoyances with the matchmaking system and interface that should be addressed. For example, it'd be nice if we could check our full online stats from the multi-player menu rather than going back to the War Journal. It'd also be nice if there was a playlist dedicated to a particular game type (Warzone, especially).

Still sucks for me. The strange thing is, I don't have a problem connecting to Horde mode or the Flashback map pack, just the rest of the playlists. I have yet to play a single game on the new maps.

The matchmaking was never slow for me. Maybe like 3 or 4 long loads, tops. Now post-patch, it's still kinda the same, but it searches for randoms faster.
They still need to fix the bullet lag.

Pfffft a little too late now cliffy. I have already returned my copy of Gears of war 2 to Tescos.
For any developer to release such a broken game to consumers is appalling.
Did they not bother to test it first? Did they test it and say "screw 'em they will buy it anyway".
Reviewers also neglected their duties when this game was released. I can't remember one who mentioned the bugs in the game.
I mean they praised single player, co-op and horde, but didn't once comment on the abysmal versus multiplayer.
They didn't mention epic did not include a lot of the features they promised would be in both single and multiplayer.
Any other developer would have got it in neck, but for some reason they let epic get away with it.
I apologise if this isn't even the right article to post this comment on. I just had to get this off my chest.....gears of war 2 is probably my biggest gamming disappointment ever.

Pre-patch it would take me about 10 minutes to get into a match.
Post match I never get into one.
I LOVE horde, so that is holding me over right now. But, that such a huge portion of the game is worthless makes me feel a bit screwed for my $60.
