Those who continue to experience PlayStation Home from the outside-looking-in have another outlet to fuel their desire to traipse about in Sony's social bowling experiment. The oft-delayed service has been given its own home on the official PlayStation website, though like Home itself at present the site is sparse in both content and purpose.
Currently visitors can wow themselves by reading a description of Home, as well as watch a video tour, look at a handful of screenshots ... and that's about it. Even so, pressing your face up against the screen is nearly as much fun as wandering aimlessly though the virtual world's vapid halls. Nearly.

So far, my experience with Home has been that it is a big letdown. Very dull.

I agree. While at the moment there is hardly enough content to make it interesting, I find that the frameworks are there to allow it to grow into something really fun and unique.
I think that once developers start integrating their games into Home (launching, trophy rooms, etc), that's when it will really start to shine. Allowing user generated content ala LBP would also be a big improvement.

After watching that video (and being in the beta) I still can't imagine spending more than 5 minutes using this.

Well not including the remainder of this month, Sony has 4 more weeks to release it, before '09.

If not, nevermind.

I just got a beta invite in the email. I'm not even sure I'm interested to be honest.

besides my complaints of people quitting games when i'm winning i've had fun in home. i like walking around having conversations with gamers. it has it share of jerks but that's just part of the internet experience in general. i just want a chess board for my club or apartment. so far i give it a thumbs up. it's shaping up like i thought.

well im with you. i just got in the beta this week and so far i like what i see. i can honestly say im pleasantly surprised though since i was one of those people that was saying "i cant see myself using it for more than 5 minutes". i found myself messing around in it for like 3 hours the other day just talking to people and looking at the little bit of content they have set up so far. it kind of reminds me of my days in the old AOL chat rooms so many years ago, which i spent alot of time in.
it seems like it's almost complete from what i can tell. they may get it out before Christmas.
my only real complaint about the whole thing is the "virtual waiting in line". i waited for like ten minutes to get a chance to play Icebreakers in the bowling alley. everyone was trying to get that shirt from it i guess. there has to be a way to make more available cause if not, people will loose interest waiting for stuff.
other than that, i cant wait for the full release now.

yeah it's alot like a chatroom in that as soon as a female or what appears to be a female shows up the guys go crazy. and the people that talk over a headset don't seem to think others can hear them. i don't usually turn my headset on for the same reason i prefer to send text than call. if i'm waiting to long i just walk out the place and back in for a new instance.

Just you wait a see all you home haters! This will be a system seller. The PS3 exclusives didn’t make me want to purchase a PS3. The blue ray didn’t interest me either. But home? Well they say home is where the heart is. I say home is where the money is. I’m plopping down the cash because home will be great! Who’s with me??

Did anyone else watch the video behind the link? Do they really just have nothing to show that they keep repeating the same clips over and over again? Can't I do bowling in GTA? Seriously...
I could see people who played Second Life getting into this, but the PS3 is for more hardcore gamers...this looks just plain boring for someone who is a hardcore gamer.
My $.02

If your sarcasm detector is not beeping loudly and flashing like a first strike early warning system, then yes you need new batteries.

I love Home for being a great social networking system.
They took away a couple of spaces when 1.0 update went in, but I'm sure when Home goes live they'll be back again.
It's a good place to meet your other PS3 buddies, or new people with the same interest as you have and then start a chat session or game either in Home or outside of Home.
Last week a group of us wanted to play Resistance 2 and couldn't start it up in Home (maybe in the future this will be possible)...so we got out and met up for a great evening of R2.
Sure, there are weird people in Home, but aren't there these same weirdos in our Real world ?
For me, it's much better than trying to text my PS3 friends on the XMB and with the new Socom headset, chatting is really easy and FREE.

Thankyou, you made me feel so much better. I bought a ps3 for LBP and Home, and LBP was a letdown for me and when I read about home and what people say, It makes me regret dropping $400 on PS3, especiLly considering I never play it and I'm on 360 all the time...but ur comment made me feel less like an idiot for buying ps3
+1 to you sir :)

I'd rather have an ingame-accessible XMB which overrides that goshdamned "Music content cannot be played during game" message which appears in damn near every PS3 game I own with the exception of Warhawk.
*begin rant*
I paid $400+ for this goshdamned thing, give me what I want or I swear to Gosh I'll never buy another console system ever again [unless it's a portable - those have me hooked like crack in Whitney Houston's pipe].
*end rant*

i think the custom soundtracks dont work because games have to support it since its supposed to replace the games music unlike the 360's which just plays over everything.
either way, i never use custom soundtracks on my 360 cause it plays over everything and i never use them on my PS3 cause no games support it.

This certainly has the potential to be something fantastic, especially with 3rd party development with Spaces and content. Trophies = money within Home is an awesome idea too.
However, Sony, for some reason unknown to us, just doesn't seem to understand what they need to do. Home will crumple or become an empty shell if they don't get that support.
They need to require some type of Home integration with game developers. They need to make everyone support Trophies (will in January '09), force devs to support In-Game music, force devs to support In-Game Photo Capturing. This is where they are lacking severely, and makes the PS3 seem extremely broken compared to the 360.

I'm more excited about the possibilities for Home than what I think they'll really do with it. At the very least I feel the platform will be a step forward, it will raise the bar for interactivity. I'm not really sure who it will raise the bar FOR; MS seems to be focused on the chat room style and Nintendo still doesn't seem to care about online. I guess the next gen of consoles will possibly feel they need to implement a more robust framework from the start. That would be bar raising. At any rate, I hope Home pulls through with its promise (I haven't been able to try it) and I hope people actually use it. No matter how awesome it is on paper it'll suck if there aren't enough people to make it breath.
