It's such a shame what happened with Nintendo and Rare. Remember the good old days when we loved their games? Oh, how it was wonderful to be alive.
And Rare is thinking about reviving one of those older games we love in their fighting game franchise, Killer Instinct, they've commented to Eurogamer. "Killer Instinct is an IP that is fondly remembered and we may do something with it, but it's a tricky market to be like the old Killer Instinct," said studio manager Mark Betteridge. And, even if they did revive the series, it would most likely be on the Xbox 360 and not back home on Nintendo's Wii console, like we would hope.
Who would still want to play a new Killer Instinct game?

I say test the market with a Killer Instinct HD. Redo the models in high quality renders, and either have them rendered in game or keep them as HD sprites, but make the backgrounds true 3d for sure. Sell it as an XBL and/or PS3 game and see what happens. If it bombs, there's no huge market for it. It might help to test the waters by simply releasing the game on the Wii's Virtual Console.
Some poll work, and market testing would accomplish the same thing. But honestly in my opinion Rare hasn't had anything good for years, I loved Conker, but the X-box remake wasn't as good or memorable... I mean seriously, how does N64 allow cussing but the X-box bleeps out the bad words... and how the hell did the Rock Solid night club have better lighting and graphics on N64 then on X-box? Most their titles have ended up being below par. Most of the Rare employees that had any talent left and created Timesplitters... which was good... and Haze... which was awful. I just am not sure of Rare has the same magic they use to have, it'd be nice to see that old spark.

Banjo Kazooie nuts & bolts and Perfect Dark Zero had good reviews.

Perfect Dark did not score well with fans. However, Viva Pinata did.

I never liked Rare's games, really. Except Goldeneye and, to a much greater extent, Perfect Dark.
I really don't like what they did to Donkey Kong. I sometimes wonder what the character would be like if they had never gotten their hands on him.

honestly, without them, DK would not be anywhere near where he is today, as Nintendo probably wouldn't have used him again until Mario vs DK on GBA
Though i agree, i never really liked DK Country, Land, or 64. I enjoyed Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Diddy Kong racing, but i loathed Conker's Bad Fur Day, as well as StarFox Adventures

I loved the old Killer Instinct, but then 64 one a bit less.
A new one would be sweet, but as i have yet to get a 360, I doesn't really matter that much to me.

I don't want them to destroy another of their franchises >_>
Conker reload: too much censoring and bad multiplayer
perfect dark zero: have to play it, but I've heard it doesn't do justice to the previous one
banjo kazooie nuts n bolts: cars??? no... just no.

Rare's loss really was devastating to Nintendo, as i think it is the foundation of Nintendo's loss of "hardcore-dom." They made the meaty western games that today's self-proclaimed "hardcore gamer" seems to crave. With Rare out of the picture, there was little that Nintendo was doing (sans Metroid) to fight the "kiddy" image
Not that any of it matters to me, but that was the loss that really threw Nintendo out of contention amongst hardcore gamers, as Nintendo has never really compensated, as Retro Studios and NST are too small to work in Rare's capacity.

Today's self-proclaimed "hardcore gamer" seems to crave violence and killing. And that's where Halo comes in. Real hardcore gamers prefer games that will tear you apart if you mess up even slightly or have no skill. Since Rare left Nintendo...well, with the help of Sega, Nintendo made F-Zero GX, and that game is god damn difficult. Nintendo just needs to make more difficult yet fun games.

@Seph
Pshaw, Halo's an old tool to use. It's all about using Gears of War as a testament to "hardcore gamer's" love for violence and gore.
...personally, I like Halo more because you don't have to really worry about dying. :P (I don't think Halo's hardcore, it's just fun to shoot thingies)

How can it be for the Wii? I thought Rare was with Microsoft and they had a contract stating that they couldn't make games for other consoles.

Killer Instinct sucks. Fans of button basher fighting games were busy playing Mortal Kombat, while those who liked a little strategy were playing Street Fighter. By the time KI Gold came out, the button bashers had moved onto Tekken, Street Fighter held firm, and Virtua Fighter had entered into the mix. Plus, all those Sega fighters I can't remember the names of. I had a N64 and even at the tender age of 11/12 I knew KI was a shoddy game. Leave this shit in the past and make something worthwhile for once, Rare.

You have no idea of what you are talking about....and it shows that you are not a hardcore fighting gamer. When KI came in the arcades it was top notch and nex-gen for its time. And you could not win a real KI match by button mashing....trust me I am telling you.
Bring on KI....its a reason this has been discussed, KI really was that good, and even more so KI2.

I'm a true fan of KI, i loved the one in the snes but never played the N64 one. A lot of people said that KI Gold suck but i still need to play it. But back to the "newer", after i saw the shit of nuts & bolts came out i think that Rare its so going down with Microsoft. DK 64 was good and Banjo Kazooies were better, Perfect dark was an awesome multiplayer and why start talking about goldeneye.
Maybe its a good idea to release a new KI but they have ot think it hard because they can fail like with all the remakes and sequels on the Xbox.
(also its a good market advise to release a little somethin' on the Wii, because it will sell like good shit because of all the Rare fans that have waiting too much for a game on a nintendo console)

Forget Killer Instinct. If I got another Rare title on the wii I would want another Banjo Kazooie (not that nuts and bolts crap, I want to be turned into a pumpkin again!) or another DK 64. No 3rd partys have been able to put together a fun and interesting platformer since Rare (I haven't played de blob yet, that looks semi interesting).

rare went downhill in quality little after they left nintendo, I mean the quality of their games(from good classic goldeneye) to the diddy kong and other latest lackluster and financial failures of today. Im happy they arent with nintendo anymore.Besides When Rare was good and they worked with nintendo, Nintendo was in bad terms with Konami, Capcom, and most of the big develpers, resulting in the n64 lack of titles. Now we dont have the exclusivity of Rare but then again Rare is dead(I owned Perfect dark zero AND GOLLY its shiet).Original Perfect Dark was among the best shooters of its TIME, Perfect dark Zero was considered among the worst shooters of its year.Talk about serious quality drop right there.So..nah i dont give a damm about the new rare. And many of the brains behind the old rare arent not even there anymore.

There is no way the Rare would do anything for the WII, they so close to Microsoft now after all the did work on the NXE(New Dashbard)
I think Nintendo needs a company like Rare as would take pressure of Nintendo about core games since they seem to be trying to protect the casual market from 360.

I couldn't agree more. Hardcore gamers get upset when they have to go more than a few months without a new title. If nintendo had a company like Rare use to be to provide quality games I think Wii owners would be a lot happier. I mean right now I'm playing through pikmin 2 again because I don't have a sweet wii title to play.

Just bring the original to the VC, and lay the series to rest.

I never personally liked it, I've always felt it was too much like MK, another fighting series I hated. Infact I pretty much hate every fighting game besides the SF or MvC ones.

I dunno... I LOVED Killer Instinct when I was little... but because it looked so cool (overdone costumes and attacks = ALWAYS GOOD in my book).
...but I already feel guilty still liking Mortal Kombat games... I mean, it's so slow and er... choppy? And definitely too corny. But for some reason it's still intriguing. (it's just the overdone costumes and attacks. I guess I haven't changed that much)
To add another game that's not so smooth to my fighting game interests... it'd just make me look bad. :(
^^;; Smooth up the movements, and controls please?
