Midway working on top-secret title that looks 'better than Gears 2'

Hyping up your upcoming titles that everyone already knows about is an ancient, outdated P.R. maneuver -- the apparent wave of the future is boasting about your top-secret hits of tomorrow. Midway, who desperately needs one of these aforementioned "hits", recently began following this up-and-coming trend -- in an interview with VideoGamer.com, Wheelman creative director Simon Woodroffe dropped hints of a heretofore unannounced Midway title that "looks as good if not better than Gears 2."

The secret title, which has been in development for three months, is reportedly "similar to Gears, but a totally different set up." We're not exactly sure what to make of that. Will the game follow a quartet of burly, foul-mouthed space marines as they spend a summer dispersed throughout their war-torn planet, sharing a pair of magical blue jeans that somehow manages to fit them all? C'mon, Midway! The suspense is killing us!

Hopefully it wont have the texture loading problems that Gears 2 has, oh and maybe some gameplay.

But seriously Gears 2 looks good? I had no idea my world was actually entirely plastic wrapped, had jagged shadows and sickening motion blur. Overlaying effects really gets some peoples pulses racing huh.

Wow! Three whole months! I've already pre-ordered! (I just went to Gamestop with a print out of this article and slapped it on the counter with a fiver.)

Its sad when Gears 2 is a standard when almost every PC game that has been released in the last two years could kill it in graphics. I hate that consoles are the new norm because of idiot consumers who don't know any better brag on graphics.

Yes, every consumer must have an elite rig and the knowhow of putting one together. Forget a $199 consumer friendly console that can run a pretty and popular game. That's simply just crazy talk. Crazy I tells yas.

What do you have against consoles? You angry cause u spent over $1000 on a elite gaming PC when you can pay $199 and play quality games on a console? Seems like it. Besides, it's not the graphics that make a game, it's the fun factor. Get over it.

I've played both fallout 3 and farcry 2 on a friend's high end pc and 360 recently and I'm being completely honest here...it's hard to tell the difference graphically.

The pc versions do look slightly better, but in my opinion it's not worth spending $800+ for that little of a difference over a much cheaper console. Now, if "better" controls justify that much higher cost to you then that's fine.

I took "looks better than Gears of War" to mean "is shaping up to be more interesting and exciting than Gears of War" not specific texture modeling techniques and shader tricks with morez pixcells making it actually better looking to the eye.

The Internet, it makes stuff all like, literal, and stuff.

and im sick of elitist pc gamers who get off on touting how much "better" their games are. if they really were better your market wouldn't be dying. quit taking it personally and move on already. or better yet, don't. we already have enough twats on xbox live.

Psi Ops 2? The 1st one ended as a cliffhanger after all. My friend and I played the shit out of the co-op campaign. I was always powers of course...

who cares about "looks better," how about actually putting out a game that's "fun"?

How about they focus on bringing us "next-gen" gameplay, rather than visuals? MK vs DC doesn't look too bad, but it plays like a game from the late 90's. It's embarassed compared to Soulcalibur or Tekken.

Drop dial-a-combo, or at least fix the awful animation..

i say it's pretty unwise to hype up against gears 2 before anyone has even seen anything. leaves a lot of room for disappointment

if it's console graphics he's referring to, then that benchmark has aleady been eclipsed. Uncharted pretty much match both Gears graphically, and it isn't even PS3's best looking game (well, that's only if we're allowed to count unreleased games like KZ2 and Heavy Rain). but what do i know? i'm of the opinion that Bioshock is 360's best looking game to date.

You've played Gears 2 right? I mean like, beat and seen the whole game? The fricken MP doesn't even take a graphical hit like almost all other MP games! Have you seen the lighting on the map Pavilion overlooking the ocean and a city background?

It's safe to say that Gears 2 IS the best looking game to come out on a console ever! But not only is it the best looking game. The soundFX, music, story, funny dialogue, MP, and fun factor is all top notch. IMO its delivers the best overall package.

Now when KZ2 comes out, THEN we can talk but for now Gears 2 reigns supreme buddy.

By his comment, it appears that he sizes how games look by what he wants to believe. Comparing a game he hasn't touched with one out is a losing argument. You have no idea what the final game will look/work like. Example: I can make the most amazing still images for your console but it won't mean sh*t if it changes to the next image at 2 fps. Thats part of the reason we discuss games that are out and working when we say what games look best.

Also, uncharted, really? I thought MGS4 was pretty great looking, but you think uncharted is better than GoW2? I know that when we saw a building fall from a height in GoW2 this week, on split screen coop, and it looked pretty damn real - my friend turned to me and said something like 'there's a see what our engine can do moment for ya'.

Anyway, yeah Gears 2 is GOTY!!! Im replaying it on Insane and damn the game is impressive to say the least. So much damn action and chaos going on. The detail is just incredible. I love it when double Reavers land and start charging at you with absolutely NO framerate issues. :)

How did Gears/Gears 2 become the standard for graphics? It has an interesting style, but I wouldn't say it looks particularly amazing overall.

Apparently Epic is Midway's younger successful brother and they look up to him.

This Midway, (I wanna play with the big boys), typical hype machine crap, (from the much smaller and very inept little brother), reminds me a lot of some other companies, "very predictable", hype machine bullshit.....Who could it be.....I've almost got it.......It's on the tip of my tongue......
