We usually don't think twice about trusting the judgment of game designer Shinji Mikami -- after all, he did create the Resident Evil series, and executive produced a few Capcom classics, such as Viewtiful Joe and Devil May Cry. However, we did a double-take when we saw a recent blurb from Mikami during an interview with Official PlayStation magazine; a blurb in which he reveals that, unlike many gamers, he "probably won't play" the next installment in his brainchild franchise, Resident Evil 5.
Mikami, who's been working under the Platinum Games label since the Great Clover Cleaving of 2006, said he knows he wouldn't enjoy the Africa-centric thriller, explaining that, "it's not going to be the game I would have made." He went on to issue a threat to his former employers, stating, "if I see anything in Resident Evil 5 that isn't done well, I'll be angry!" We'd hate to see what the man behind some of the goriest games we've ever played does when he gets his dander up.

Perhps isn't more accurate to say it's an "action horror" game. Personally, I'm glad the game has eveolved. The survival horror genre was nothing more than a collection of stupid ass cheap tricks to make the games artificially difficult. Why rely an AI and creative enemies when instead you can use piss poor controls, "elite" military type characters that somehow don't carry any ammo and can't fight worth shit, and stupid non-sensical puzzles? I've always enjoyed the horror aspect of the games, but the "survival" portion has largely been straight up bad gaming.

If they made the same game over and over again, why would anyone play it? Why would it matter? It would blow. A lot.

I've always felt like RE died when RE4 came out. GREAT game, but the intense combat/action, and lack of survival horror feel make the new games seem more like a spinoff series under a different genre than true RE games. And yes, I DO think the series was getting stale after RE3, but if other survival horror games can make stuff interesting without overhauling combat and pacing then RE should have been able to do it as well.
I don't agree or disagree with this guy, but I respect that he sticks with his guns on the way he meant for the series to stay close to home as far as style and mechanics and all.

I like RE4 as much as the next guy, however I've noticed whenever praise is heaped upon RE4, it usually centers around the gameplay.
Did anyone else REALLY dislike the storyline? I hated it, I thought it was atrocious.

Yeah I didn't like the story at all too. I beat it like 5 times in a few weeks and I still can't remember what the hell it was about.

STFU, Mr. Mikami.
You were paid for your work. This isn't your game anymore.

I never knew you could get a picture of the man who created Resident Evil in frame and at a watchable camera angle.

Wow, so many people hate the controls of RE series. IMO, if you take away the controls you no longer have a RE game. I always figured the controls were like that for a reason; so that your character feels threatend and to slow the game down to build suspense. What type of threat would the zombies have been if you could just run circles around them? I think that limited controls in a survival horror game is just as important as limited resources and adds to an overall feel of uncertainty about your ability to errmm,,, survive.
