Maybe it's just us but Super Street Fighter II HD Remix looks hella pretty. Pretty perfect, actually. Unfortunately some videophiles may not agree as news has come out that SSFIIHDR upscales in-game character sprites and crops backgrounds when played in 16:9 wide screen. According to notorious pixel counters Digital Foundry, SSFIIHDR is scaling characters and cropping backgrounds because the game was developed to be played old school, that is to say using 4:3 aspect ratio. While we like our games pretty we just don't see enough issue and it becomes even less apparent while you're playing the game. Videophiles have a right to know, though.

I tried the trial version, overall the game is very "pretty" but my Xbox is running 16:9 and i do notice some weird black bars/slivers on the side of the screen. Don't know what that's about

I'd like to see a few more frames of animation thrown into it, but of course this would go against the 'old skool' feel and would look much smoother.

If a move has more startup frames, that's considered a negative thing. It's not just fort he old-school feel.

They wanted to stay faithful to the original while adding HD sprites/backgrounds. Allowing the game to play in true 16x9 changes the width of the playable area, which really would affect the gameplay. They made a conscious decision not to widen the playable area in order to stay faithful to the original.

I've noticed that after buying it and I'm kind of pissed ; the game shouldn't call himself HD remix since it was designed for 4:3 ...
At least the online play is pretty good actually, playing versus the CPU is boring.

HD has nothing to do with widescreen. There are HDTV's that are 4:3 and there are SDTV's that are 16:9. If it has 720 lines, then it is HD; it does not have to be 16:9.

Not sure why people are pissed, this isn't news or anything. This is how they said they'd handle 16:9 if they were going to implement it in the game. (Ironically after people bitched about 16:9 NOT being part of the original plan)

Of course it's cropped or else it would alter the gameplay. It was in the Capcom release notes, no need for pixel counters...

what happened to the air force logo on the jet? they're not staying true to the original.
and the announcer sounds like a huge nerd.
i respect capcom for most of their work, but this is not worth $15.
here's hoping street fighter iv isn't a let down. and i hope they put otis in as a secret character. i want to beat the crap out of him.
