Behold Japan's Resident Evil 5 LE, with console-specific extras

Capcom Japan's online store has put up a pre-sale page for the limited edition of Biohazard 5, a.k.a. Resident Evil 5 to us gaijin. It's a handsome LE treatment for the game, and is interesting in that PS3 and 360 will each receive their own variation with unique bonuses.

Set to go on sale March 3, 2009 at ¥12,800 ($137), both LE sets include a 2GB Tricell USB drive, 32-page art book, and BSAA "Waist Pocket" like the characters in the game wear. On the PS3 side, the game's Blu-ray Disc will include a making-of documentary; the 360 edition will actually come in two flavors: a Deluxe Edition, which includes a Biohazard 5 Selection Track soundtrack CD, and the Limited Edition which ... doesn't. The 360 "DE" will apparently be even more limited than the LE.

Capcom hasn't revealed plans for a US limited edition for either version of RE5, but, given the increase in volume of premium bundles in the last two years alone, we'd be surprised if its marketing folk don't come up with something special for Western gamers.

It's inevitable that Limited Editions will come out when any high-profile game gets released. They realize they can squeeze an extra $10-$20 from people if they release something with some additions such as a "Halo" outfit and "Gold-Plated Lancer". Seems it works, seeing as how I bought the LE of GoW2 although since I am a BestBuy employee I only paid 52$ for it :x

Rk0n, you need to work the system more. I bought a couple of cheapass games and used a trade promotion to secure the LE for about CAD$35 (including taxes). And even at that, I could have done better if I could have been bothered scouring more stores for even cheaper games to trade in.

I know people bitch about this kind of stuff and all, but this Limited Edition stuff is great and it actually works for the companies.

It is exactly like Apple - their products come with an experience of unboxing - nice, pretty, clean and shiny. I know it makes me feel better and more excited about a product, and is worth a few extra bucks.

Why did they ever change the name from Biohazard to resident evil for non-Japanesse markets in the first place?

Probably copyright issues. I know there's a rock group that already used the name "biohazard" before the game originally came out, but I don't know if that was why they changed the names

The extras are exclusive to each console individually. The PS3 gets some of the stuff, the 360 gets other stuff. At least Capcom isn't including console-exclusive in-game content, that sort of thing REALLY SUCKS.

No PC version has been announced yet actually, Street Fighter 4 has been announced for PC though. Lost Planet sold very well on PC (for a PC game at least), but Devil May Cry 4 tanked on PC, so I guess we'll see. RE5 seems like a much better fit for PC than SF4.

I think one of the BSAA patches would have been a lot cooler than the waist pack.

You're not part of the BSAA. It wouldn't feel right to let you have one.

I heard that the US version is supposed to come with Resident Evil: Degeneration on Blu-Ray with the PS3 version, and on DVD with the 360 version.

Rumors are Rumors though.

The USB drive looks awesome, having the T-Virus around with you. :)

But 2gb is weak. I already carry a 8gb one around for work/music/porn on the go.

A bit weird that there would be more flavors for limited editions for the XBOX360...in Japan.
