Rumor: Gran Turismo 5 on track for holiday '09 release in Europe
Despite what series creator Kazunori Yamauchi had to say to us on the topic during E3, Spanish newspaper El Financiero quotes SCEE executive James Armstrong as stating that Gran Turismo 5 (the full, real deal – not Prologue 2 or some-such) will be released in Europe "by Christmas 2009." This is, of course, concerning a series that's been historically fast and furious loose with release dates.
GTPlanet – which is part of the chain of custody on this rumor – speculates that, if true, we could see a summer 2009 release for GT5 in Japan and a late 2009 / early 2010 launch in the West. This scenario would certainly follow the staggered roll-outs of previous Gran Turismo titles to a (Model) T.

Meanwhile, I still can't download an update for the game that was released almost four months ago!

Strategy_Panda (the artist formally known as Titanium_Orchid) @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:25AM
If your going to reply to my comment just to troll, you might as well troll the correct game
uh-oh polio @ Dec 1st 2008 3:38PM
definitely gonna pick this up release day. Wherever it may be from.
gigglez76 @ Dec 1st 2008 3:50PM
All I want for now is a costom soundtrack,to be able to listen to "Rebel Yell" or "Kickstart my Heart" or whatever,as long as I don't have to race to the Bulls@#t they gave us!!!
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 1st 2008 3:52PM
why would sony release their # 1 game franchise of all time in japan only first?
holiday 2009 west release??
i hope they dont make excuses if the game doesnt sell as many as they thought because of release timeframe.
summer 2009 sounds like a good time to release this game in the US.
but if its not ready its not ready.
but why they spend so much time on japan version?
that will sell millions less copies than American versions??
Blah @ Dec 1st 2008 3:56PM
Gran turismo sells very well in japan believe it or not!
Hyams @ Dec 1st 2008 4:14PM
Grant Turismo is Sony's Halo. There's no possible way it will underperform sales-wise.
Cutty @ Dec 1st 2008 5:57PM
It's made in Japan, of course it will be released there first.
el serpiente @ Dec 1st 2008 6:49PM
They need time to translate the engine sounds into english, silly.
Vcize @ Dec 1st 2008 3:54PM
Soooo...any word on the updates to Prologue that we were supposed to get like a bazillion years ago?
Dave @ Dec 1st 2008 3:56PM
Color me excited!
Esat Dedezade @ Dec 1st 2008 4:28PM
My... my crayon box lacks that coloyr...
That bastard salesman told me that my £1000 would buy me a crayon set with every colour beneath the sun in it :(
Unless excited is a colour found on or within the sun...
Does this mean excited is a fiery red/yellow colour?
bluesky_v2.01 @ Dec 1st 2008 3:56PM
I don't understand why it's taking them so long to finish a game. They already have the Prologue in working state, how long does it take to make a few extra tracks and car models?
Hyams @ Dec 1st 2008 4:15PM
They're perfectionists.
All their cars and tracks (and they have a hell-lotta of them) have to be as perfect as possible.
Wiinterfang @ Dec 1st 2008 4:55PM
Wasn't prologue a Demo that you have to pay for?
LeadBoxx @ Dec 1st 2008 3:57PM
This is coming out for PlayStation 4.
LeadBoxx @ Dec 1st 2008 6:11PM
Hey also now that I think of it, where is the PSP version? Did it get killed?
ChiTownRuler23 @ Dec 1st 2008 4:02PM
ahhh sony this is the reason why i switched to the XBOX 360 cuase of your Delaystatuion 3 only game that looks intresting to me on the PS3 is Killzone 2
straynova @ Dec 1st 2008 4:11PM
I don't know. I'd rather have a developer take the time to get it right than to release annual sequels with slight improvements...
Flame @ Dec 1st 2008 4:19PM
I agree with Stray, but Home is really no exception. It's not even a game yet it takes forver to release. the GT series has already been crowned the best racing series and the graphics are excellent. Yeah but id rather a developer polish the game before releasing it. Ex.: Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, Socom: Confrontation, Gears 2 and LBP..... :P
ChiTownRuler23 @ Dec 1st 2008 4:49PM
i never really liked gran turismo any ways and come on LBP i dont see myself playin that
Negativecool @ Dec 1st 2008 4:17PM
Worth the wait IMO. I'll finally be buying a PS3 along with it.
vic @ Dec 1st 2008 4:18PM
If there ever was a game that needed a simultaneous worldwide release, this would be the game.
Paulmichael @ Dec 1st 2008 4:30PM
Give the US the UK version! Just remember to change "realise," "initialise," "colour," and any other words their proper spellings, and the dates in the correct, logical format of month THEN date, and you should be good to go. :)
Henry @ Dec 1st 2008 5:01PM
Oy!
Those are the correct spellings - the American versions are the basterdized ones. x
Paulmichael @ Dec 1st 2008 5:08PM
Ahaha you wish! Pronounce "realise" and unless you have a slur, there's a z distinctly in there. Unless it's pronounced differently over there haha. Also, "colour" would be pronounced "kolore" if we pronounced it with that spelling. :)
Henry @ Dec 1st 2008 5:19PM
Are you actually being serious? I guess America invented ENGlish then.
..But hold on a second! IF everything is spelled as said, why don't you pronounce the K in "knowledge"?
night..elve @ Dec 1st 2008 7:41PM
I just hope paulmichael is joking ... right?
Paulmichael @ Dec 1st 2008 5:25PM
Hey, don't look at us. We didn't invent the language. And no, I'm not being (completely) serious. As for knowledge, I know (haha), it makes no sense! Spelling that as nawledge or noledge (depending on accent) just looks nasty.
Cutty @ Dec 1st 2008 6:00PM
Henry, why did you criticise his American spellings and then spell 'bastardised' the American way? =P
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 1st 2008 4:51PM
I may hate the PS3, but goddamn is that game purdy
Henry @ Dec 1st 2008 4:59PM
I used to play the GT games on the PS1 all the time and loved them, but when I bought Prologue, I didnt enjoy it at all. Cant place my finger on why - it just seemed to be more of an accurate simulation of driving a car than a game.
Paulmichael @ Dec 1st 2008 5:11PM
If you were playing on default physics, then you didn't even get the full simulation. But you see, that's the whole point to this game, that it is very much a simulation. You get to drive cars that otherwise you may never have the chance to, and tune them to your heart's content. The game aspects of this include multiplayer, online, obtaining licenses, and advancing through the various events/collecting prize money/expanding your garage...
Lord Negatron @ Dec 1st 2008 5:30PM
Yesss, i have had my eye on a "used 85' Ford Escort" for the longest time. The time is near where i can really show what that monster can do.

343 Guilty Fart @ Dec 1st 2008 6:20PM
So this is coming out at the same time as Home then?
NOT ME @ Dec 1st 2008 8:28PM
a lot of people are gonna hate me for this but GT just seems souless and boring. Ive always like the music. but it puts me to sleep now. Just recently playing the game. I realized how much it isnt a simulator. I had a srt10 viper and on a straight u had an evo and a 1 series keeping up with me. and doing 160mph in this game looks like your barely moving. this game is void of any sense of speed.
And getting into it why cant i hear my engine more??? if you heard half of these cars in real life you'd realize how muted they sound in this game. Hate me if you want but i grew up with and loved GT 1-2 hell its how i learned how to drive. but now as a game its just boring. and please spare me of the "you want a burnout or NFS" cause thats not what im saying at 160 crowd should be a blur and the spotted lines should look more like a 1 long line....but it doesnt you can actually almost count them
soulseekerUK @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:11AM
ref - NOT ME
I agree totally with you.
nothing in recent times has really pushed the envelope, unless you go too much down the arcade route.
Mokano40 @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:47AM
Just like God of war 3, haven't you realized that they just want to build up hype so people refuse to buy X360 Arvades this holiday season, they want to call the attention to their "TBA Release date games"
NOT ME @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:17PM
yea Ive noticed that over PS3 lifespan. i remember thinking last christmas when they were showing ads. the 3 games in the ads werent out yet, and not for awhile they had, LBP GT5 prologue and MGS4. which were all a loong way off.
