What the hell does "fuzzy" do? I will admit that Yoshi's Island is one Mario game I haven't played.

It makes the ground ripple heavily, causing Yoshi to sway back and forth, makes the music go crazy, and it turns the stage background into a Grateful Dead music video. It's one of the trippiest sequences in video game history.

And you should stop whatever you're doing right now and immediately acquire a copy of Yoshi's Island. :)

Wait... is that junk on VC yet? If not it NEEDS TO BE.

Possibly the greatest Super Nintendo game. Tied with SMRPG, Megaman X, SMW, Star Fox, Contra 3: The Alie- ah screw. They're all great.

What, no mention that poison it badly drops your attack power?

Great job showing an enemy that curses you for the poison description by the way,

I thought the Vapula had a poison attack? No? Oh well. I first tried to look for the poison worm, since it would be pretty obviously poisonous. After that came up dry, I still couldn't find any decent or clear images of a poisonous Castlevania enemy.

In case you didn't connect the dots, I wrote this column while I had the flu. So, it's probably not my best work. That's no excuse, though. Flogging accepted. :/

I think it MIGHT do, but I think it's known for cursing more than anything.

I shouldn't have gone off, you're making an effort to blog even when you're not feeling well...

No "Mashroomizing"? Have you not played Earthbound? Randomized controls out of combat, and in combat you'll attack your targets at random. Or is it because the cure gives you money rather than costs money?

You know, I've never been able to get into Earthbound. I know, I know, I'm a reprehensible human being. I'm already slightly disinterested in turn-based RPGs, with a few exceptions, but I just can't quite handle the pacing. Maybe I'll have to force myself to play through it sometime.

No T-Virus?

I had a feeling that this would come up. I wanted to keep the list limited to "status ailments" as opposed to full out infections (which I guess is a bit misleading considering the title).

Thanks for the suggestion, though! :)

I see your point, but how could it NOT come up?

Duly noted, Deegan. Perhaps I should have given it a brief mention in the intro.

The importance of keeping good status in Castlevania rose to a whole new level with Order of Ecclesia, especially with avoiding Curse status. Because Shanoa's ability to attack is connected to her MP bar, getting Cursed renders her unable to attack for the ten or fifteen seconds that the effect drains her MP to zero. This could have been a nightmare, as the game could have stuck tons of Ectoplasms or other Curse monsters in every level, especially in spots where having no ability to attack and no easy escape meant certain death. Fortunately, Curse monsters were rare and the only real danger from Cursing came in the Albus boss battle.

Of course, all of these problems are meaningless if you have a supply of Uncurse Potions, but that's the easy way out.

Kudos to the Mario content. Remember the original Mario Kart, before the lightning item, when Peach would drop those mini-mushrooms to shrink players? And the feather that let you jump! Good times.

The Yoshi's Island fuzzy rules, too. Get well soon, Kaes.

Ahh yes, I do miss feather-only shortcuts (that extra slab of track in one of those Ghost Valley tracks ... so wonderful!)

Thanks for the kind words, sir! Great piece last week, BTW. :)

Do you remember the curse/poison from the blue bubbles on Majora's Mask? I HATED that junk. It basically ruined whatever you had set out to or, at least, wasted a few hours.

That was perhaps the most annoying part about that game (aside from the weird save system). Geez, I hated that so much. Nice suggestion! :)

It honestly wouldn't have been so bad if you didn't have a time limit.

But if those things didn't exist, and you could save wherever you wanted (but keep the statues for the Song of Soaring), that game would've been amazing.
