I do hate the fact that you have to download every other update ever, each time a new tiny one comes out.

Why not just have a choice between a "last version > latest version" or "every update for those who've just bought/connected PS3 to internet" download?

I agree with tmac. I turned on SF2HDR for a few quick games, only to be told to update first. And what was that 20-30 minutes for? Full screen flash? Fuck that.

@EVERYONE: Look idiots, believe it or not, you CAN turn off auto updates. Yes, that's right. You CAN choose when to update your console. But then you wouldn't be able to complain anymore... Choices, choices....

I got this update and it seems to be doing more harm than good. I tried both youtube and hulu and when I do full screen on them the PS3 seems to lock up and I have to shut it down to get back into it and also the controller seems to lose sync with the system. It's frustrating becuase I want to be able to use hulu on it.

I did the update last night. I went to hulu.com and watched a video. First thing I noticed is when you go to full screen, if you even move the mouse (joystick) the video stops and skips. As long as you don't touch the controller, the video plays, albeit sometimes the video seems to lag but the audio never stopped.

Another playthrough of a video from Hulu had the system freeze in the browser. The controller failed to respond to any command except holding the center PS button and I could not exit the browser. I had to shut down.

pc to tv solves the problem

the ps3 is a game machine however it is trying to be a PC and doing an okay job at it.

I used to use PlayOn, but found it too buggy. It was way too inconsistent with playback so I uninstalled it.

I do use media streaming daily with my systems, but the other big problem I keep getting is "unsupported data" with some avi's, whereas the 360 plays them with no issue.

el serp-
haha the troll speaks from his lair:
actually i dont have my PC hooked up to my TV, i was saying that would be the best option to stream media to your TV.
the ps3 is a substitute that is not a good as the PC.
why do you want to not believe that?

i could care less about this update.

if i cared to stream HULU media i would buy a PC to TV cable for a few dollars at an online store and call it a day.

its really not a great feature on the ps3 IMO.

j.howlett-
so u use your new ps3, which is a slow, hard to use, doesnt accept all formats, web browser as a computer??

who owns a ps3 and does not own a working PC?
come on el serp:
sometimes we have to get our priorities straight in life.
a PC is much more important in MY life than an entertainment/gaming console.
i would make sure to have a good working PC before a high tech ps3. that would be stupid to do. nothing wrong with the ps2.

buy a cable? wow big expense..
you are very stupid really.
to hook up a ps3 to an HDTV you have to buy an HDMI cable.
to hook up a PC to an HDTV you have to buy a cable too.

THAT IS VERY STUPID TO HAVE A PS3 AND NOT A WORKING PC.

I agree the SONY bashing is getting a little heavy as of late...I digress.

I downloaded the update last night (was a little slow) took about 10min.

BUT, HULU.com worked pretty damn good...well it was a little choppy at first...so I paused it for like 2 min. then watched the entire episode of the Simpsons that came on Sunday...no problems.

Pandora.com works!!! Youtube of course works!! Even some *cough* adult sites I visit worked great!! I'm REALLY happy with the update...some people just love complaining...geeezzzz!!

well considering all this can be done from our PC's that are more efficient and faster anyway makes this update not needed.
PC to HDTV is faster anyway.
all of us have a PC if we have a ps3.

my ps3 is collecting dust because im not playing games on it.
anything i can do better or faster on my PC i will do there.

The problem with a DVI connection from computer to your televiscion is you get no audio from the TV. You have to do the audio from the computer in that case. It's not so easy to just hook a computer to the TV with allot of ppl setup. My setup I can do with a laptop but again is easy to just use the ps3 in that case instead of running crappy audio speakers from my computer or use the dedicated built in audio.

No one is saying this feature keep up from using blu-ray but it's a good feature for people who stream from site like hulu and megavideo. It's free to use and it also more convienance than using some other setup with a dvi cable and laptop.

People acting like expand features is bad thing. Try to say dumb thing to minimize every thing on Joystiq for playstation . If you don't like feature don't use feature. To come here and harass people because they use this feature is immature and child like.

*my ps3 is collecting dust because im not playing games on it.*

If you not playing game on it that your fault. You would not know a game if it hit you in the head. Every system have lots of good games out include exclusive and multiple platforms.

*anything i can do better or faster on my PC i will do there.*

Good that the world dont revolve around you because everyone else would miss out. I don't use my psp for skype but some do. Do this mean it should not be there. Feature are good for devices.

If you want to play ps3 game go play some game like rrsistance 2, little big planets, wipeout hd, socom, naruto or vakryia cronhnicles. also psn game for sale 1/2 off like echocrome & 3 others.

It obvious you hate you ps3 so just give to a friend for the holidays or sell it if you hate it so much. seem like all you do is complaining about the playstation. like a little baby.

sorry for my bad english ...

In fact Not all the Youtube Videos Works.
I have a 16:9 TV with 1920i@60Hz.

In many of these Videos I get nothing but a totally BLACK or blank video viewer.

I wonder.. Noone else had the same problem ??

I like how often Sony releases firmware updates but it sucks that they're mandatory if you want to do ANYTHING online with the system, even shop at the store. It just gets frustrating sometimes when I want to see what's new in the store but Oh wait, first I'll have to stand by for 30 minutes so a new update can download and install.

Bah humbug!

Hulu runs smoother in 480p fullscreen than in the original size for me (no idea why), and sling.com streams fairly well in fullscreen, despite the annoying dislocated info bar that floats in the middle of the screen when you're NOT in fullscreen mode.

But the new update has led to several browser/system lockups for me. Too much in the cache? At any rate, I've had to manually reboot several times since the update if I actually try to watch fullscreen videos with it.

Can't wait until PS2 sales dimish so far that they just give up and release an update for software backwards compatibility. It's not like the 40GB sku's can't do it.
