Call of Duty: World at War tops UK charts
Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War has climbed to the top of the UK all-format game sales charts, blasting its way through countless soldiers, explosive set pieces and Need For Speed: Undercover, which was in second place for some reason. Resistance 2 grabbed the tenth spot in its debut, while Sonic Unleashed, as Eurogamer points out, only managed 23rd ... on the Xbox 360-specific chart.
Though FIFA 09's third all-format position makes complete sense and matches our envisioned UK stereotypes perfectly, it's somewhat harder to justify the #39 spot held by Mirror's Edge, not to mention Left 4 Dead's #34. Tomb Raider: Underworld, however, managed to go from a 9 to a 7 in a week. Not the first time that's happened.

Sonic Unleashed beat out both Left 4 Dead and Mirror's Edge? Seriously? Come on Brits, get your act together.

Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:04PM
despite popular belief, The Sonic franchise has a ridiculously huge fanbase made up of sick individuals who ship themselves with a sonic character.
ExMcCloud @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:51AM
Tomb Raider, Need For Speed, an Sonic all beat L4D? Tisk tisk tisk...Thats wat we call that BullS*%t!
Haggard @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:49PM
PC gaming is pretty strong here in the UK, so people probably would have chosen that version over the 360's.
Haggard @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:56PM
Oops, I misread and thought this was the 360 chart. Apologies and same to that guy I called an idiot down below!

CoD: WaW is a damn good game and deserves those sales. Bravo Treyarch!!! Ive gotten my moneez worth and havent even touched MP all that much yet. Awesome campaign, awesome zombie mode, great MP! Even the Wii version with its modified COD4 engine is up to snuff and probably the best *overall shooter on there. Go buy it!
BTW, bummer that Activision didn't get someone on a Wii version of COD4 ASAP.

"BTW, bummer that Activision didn't get someone on a Wii version of COD4 ASAP"
oh god please no.
Maverick Saturn @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:21PM
Well its because COD is multiplat its up there so high, if it was PS3 exclusive or 360 Exclusive it would probably be further down, maybe in the top 10 still but certainly further down, you can thank Wii for its success ¬_¬ Every man, woman, child and thier dog has Wii over here and seeing as COD5 is about the most exciting thing to appear on Wii in a while, I'm not suprised in the slightest.
xFenixKnightx @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:37PM
"oh god please no."
What? o_O
The Wii NEEDS games like this! I might actully get COD WaW for my kids on Wii instead of PS3. It's gonna be cheaper thats for sure.
Haggard @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:48PM

This chart is for 360 only. So you're wrong twice.

I'm talking about the UK charts in general ¬_¬

Oh and Haggard, try reading: 'Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War has climbed to the top of the UK ALL-FORMAT game sales charts'
Haggard @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:59PM
I did try reading, I just didn't do very well
Kyromancer @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:33PM
Resistance 2 only in tenth place?
Hmm, that's not great...
Nathan @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:45PM
Depends how they measure it. "All Formats" versus "Individual Formats" in which it came 6th.

Also, Resistance only came out Friday 28th, so that's only 2 days of sales compared to others having a full week.
Also one of the major distributors in the UK went bust last week, so a lot of stores (online & bricks & mortar) had no stock of new games.
xFenixKnightx @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:48PM
Also, I like to make excuses for its sucky sales! YEAH!!!
Give me a fuckin break!
Maverick Saturn @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:12PM
No fenix, he has a point, nobody needs to argue for Resistance in the UK, the chart speaks for itself, we like driving games and football games a great deal :) For COD to top NFS and Fifa is shocking to say the least, the only games known to do that are GTA, Halo, and a handful of others, so COD gets my applause.
Considering Resistance is an exclusive on PS3, a console selling less then the 360, I can't say I'm dissopointed with its position :)
Bloody Wii ¬_¬

I sold my copy of W@W yesterday. A decision I won't regret since I personally prefer COD4. . . and I got Chrono Trigger (for the 3rd time since 1995) and Valkyria Chronicles. I'll take quasi-fictional anime style 1940s nazis over semi-fictional scifi style 1940s nazi zombies any day. . . wait . . . yeah, that's right.
