I'm guessing Epic didn't make the game for people like you. I for one thought the single player campaign in Gears two was amazing.

Enough game bashing already, if you don't like it then you are wrong.

"I for one thought the single player campaign in Gears two was amazing."

and

"...if you don't like it then you are wrong."

You, who think you are Maddox (which you are FAR from) or think you can never be wrong, have never proven yourself so wrong by stating the story mode in Gears of War 2 was "amazing". It is not terrible but at the same time is no where near amazing.

The vehicle itself for story delivery is very solid, no qualms there. The voice acting was good, the graphics top notch and the animation / synchronization were also top notch.

The narrative itself was bland, cliched and unoriginal. Dizzy shouldn't have even been given a name he was so unimportant. He could have easily just been the driver with character because they didn't utilize him anymore than just that, a driver with character.

Certain stages and bosses were pointless. Being inside the worm itself was a waste. What was the point? Run around and hit the B button... that's really about it. Avoiding acid sprays and being crushed by walls is NOT what makes the Gears of War games fun... and chainsawing walls and arteries, c'mon, might as well just made the whole level context sensitive.

What about Marcus and his relationship with Hoffman and Anya? It's teased about in part I and then in part II they barely touch on either and yet we go through this whole mess with Dominic and his wife which wasn't even hinted at in the first game?

The boss battle with Skorge was a joke and anti-climatic.

I really could go on and on but those are my biggest gripes.

@ D dogg

You ever hear of spoilers?

I read everything you posted and walked away with one thing - You must have really had high expectations for this game and because it let you down now you feel the need to go online and rant and gripe because it wasn't made the way you wanted it.

@ Jesse James

The ONLY thing I can even think of that may possibly be a spoiler is by saying "in the worm". You know what, I'm a commenter, NOT the article writer and what I posted isn't really a spoiler.

At least the single player campaign warrants a bitch-fest... you bitching about my SPOILERS is ridiculous.

Ironic though, you complaining about my complaining. Yeah, there are SERIOUS issues with the story in this game and I by far am not the only one who thinks so... I think those who think the story is AWESOME are in the MINORITY.

Have you checked out the actual Gears of War forums lately... I have.

What about the fact that much more people have Halo 3 than Gears 2.

What makes me mad about gears online is 1, the look sensitivity glitch that happens to me multiple times every game and 2, my buddies cant play with me on Llive using a guest account. wth is up with that? Even Gears 1 had allowed that...

For gears of war 2, they need to fix the shotgun, chainsaw, and lag and then you will see it rise agian. I loved playing Gears of war mutiplayer because the shotgun didnt lag and the host player really didnt piss me of because i would play with good teammates but with GOW2 i get so pissed off when i play onlline that i just stop playing.

How do u fucckk up GOW2 so much!?!?! After two years????

Seriously? (2.0)

I can't belive so many people are still playing Halo 3. Yes it's good, but it is also old. I prefer to play newer and fresher things, and Gears 2 has some pretty graphics to keep me hooked until the next big online game.

I spend more time on COD5 though, just for the Zombie Nazis mode.

I have been banned form the Epic forums for discussing this issue. Epic went as far as to ban my I.P. address so i cant even view their forums. And for what? Because i said the same thing everyone else is saying "this game is flawed with bugs and plays terrible online" When i started up a new account to speak to the moderator thats when they banned my I.P. address. Epic is a joke! I hope someone passes this info around the gaming community to bring heat to Epic. They screwed up Gears 2 and they do not want any hate on their forums.

The matchmaking works very quickly now. The reason Gears 2 is dropping is because Epic botched the online gameplay again. Bullet-Delay still exists, if even in a far subtler form. The ambiguous host system still stinks. The chainsaw ruins almost everything. People lag out of almost every game I play. All sorts of little laggy hiccups and other glitchy problems occur, like once I saw someone stuck to a flight of stairs after a smoke grenade knocked them over. They had to lay there until someone came along and killed them. Bottom line: Gears 2 online is not only sub-par compared to its competition, it's freaking horrible.

BTW, Giving away Gears 2 LE at VillainTech.com. You have one more day to submit your entry.

My friends and I have been playing the Gears series since it came out and I have enjoyed it immensely but there is something really wrong with Gears 2. Forget the whole matchmaking problem (which is hard to do), it is difficult for me to believe they could ruin something so great, so completely. The chainsaw is way too unstoppable. The shotgun is now useless unless you are host (and don't give me this shit I don't know how to aim... I aimed perfectly well before.) In Gears 1 all the weapons were in balance with each other. It required real thought to gain advantage over someone. The grenade debacle make it impossible to sneak up on people. At first I really liked the grenades but now seeing what happens when five people throw smoke grenades into an area I am not so much a fan. I like the fact that you can plant the grenades in walls and the floor but as a player on the opposing team, if you are able to spot the grenades, you should be able to defeat them with one or two shots, not a whole freaking clip.) Close combat fighting is nothing more complicated that running up to someone with the lancer in hand holding down the B button. At least before there was some skill involved while dancing back and forth with the shotgun. The lack of map control is inconprehensible. The level design is horrible (there's a reason everyone votes for the old maps.) They feel so cluttered to me. I don't understand how a map so large can feel so small and difficult to navigate. I thought the lag in Gears 1 was bad and frustrating. I was so excited to hear Epic was focusing on this problem. I never imagined it could be worse. This is an Epic failure. I fear my favorite game franchise has been FUBARed. I am trying to force myself to like it. How did this happen? WTF Epic? WTF?

The patch made matchmaking SOMEWHAT quicker, not really all that much different. What's really f'in annoying is having to REDO EVERYTHING after every single match. I mean WTF?

You could've at LEAST use a Halo 3 "stick with party" system or a COD thing where everyone is in the same room until they leave. Having to search for players after every single match is just a pain in the ass and rather frustrating.

How do you know CounterStrike is still the most played game on PC other than MMO's. Are you pulling that out of your ass or do you have proof?

I only ask because I haven't played CS in a while (stopped playing right around when SOURCE was released) but was a VERY avid player before hand. It's just nice to know if it is really still played as much... especially considering it was a friggin MOD made by non-industry people at the time :)))

Well maybe not THE top one but still pretty high up. It used to be right behind WoW though.

http://www.xfire.com/cms/stats/ puts CSS at #4 behind the Call of Duty games, and of course the actual numbers will be higher since a lot of CS gamers in general don't like Xfire.

---Remember - "server based" does NOT equal better. Don't work that way.----

Is this self induced BS, or Microsoft induced BS. Your right, publishers and developers pay to keep dedicated servers running for shits and giggles. They take a few thousand hits to the pocket, so that they can laugh malevolently, as people expecting less lag, are met with more.

Server based games ARE less laggy. Servers do = better. Thats an uncontestable fact. With peer to peer based games, crappy hosts are selected. Hosts have other people on their network using up bandwidth. If a person has older equipment, they're connection quality will be lower. In normal circumstances, who cares. They may get the odd lag from time to time. But it doesn't really effect anyone else. But if their connection host, well now all of a sudden the hole game is laggy. Because their shit can't handle hosting a game.

If a person has a computer full of viruses, and spyware on a computer plugged into their router, every game they host is lag shit storm. Then theres host advantage. All of the abilities to cheat, that come with being connection host.

With dedicated servers, you have servers thats sole purpose is to be used for hosting games. Hence "dedicated". Theres no bandwidth being used on limewire, or by viruses and spyware. Theres no host advantage. No bridging people out of the game.

Theres two negatives to dedicate servers. Every once in a while they crash. And when that happens you can't play that game untill its fixed. In addition, some pubs/devs in particular EA, shuts down servers when a game doesn't have a big gamer population.

Even with matching times down, it still takes longer than other games--and worse yet, once the match is in session, if someone drops out you're out of luck. Another really annoying thing is that you have to start from scratch again if everyone dies in Horde or after one map on other modes. If someone drops off, you're out of luck and not getting new players joining. I think they overthought the multiplayer and need to bring back some of the basics. It may be too late for GOW2.

I have no problems getting into matches on GoW2, I have never had to wait longer than five minutes tops.

I also stopped playing Halo 3 because it's just so slow and repetitive with bland maps and overbalanced weapons that do nothing, plus the community is built around tards, nerds and racist kids who think you suck if you're a Grade 4 at any rank and aren't a Level 50 in three playlists. Also Bungie's attitude towards their community and their total arrogance and contempt for their customers who have paid them a shitload of money over the years is absolutely staggering and has made me vow to never buy one of their games brand new ever again. Not buying H3:Overrated DST or the Mythic Map Pack for Halo 3, and I've never ever seen a polite or constructive post from any Bungie employee on their forums; they seem to think it's great fun to openly laugh at and trash the opinions of their customers regardless of what people have to say. Totally unprofessional and they're never seeing my money again regardless of how good the game is.

Bungie bodged Halo 3 as well, don't forget that. Not as good as Halo 2 let alone other games on the same system which had come out beforehand, I honestly don't get why it's doing so well. Plus wondering about that just gets you told that you suck, precisely the problems with the Halo community I mentioned earlier.

Back to GoW2. I have had very few problems and see little reason to complain, plus I think it's a lot more fun than the original GoW was. If you want to find games quickly, go to the Flashback Players Choice and play on the older maps - those matches start real quick, I've never waited longer than one minute for a match in there.

Well, I'm sorry to point this out from my own experience, but people that do bash on Halo generally aren't very good at it. I have a few friends on Live that, after playing some Halo 3 and completely getting destroyed, urged me to go with them to another game, which is usually Call of Duty 4, by the way.

Both games, I'll admit, don't take too long to get used to, but Halo 3 takes so much more skill to master. Call of Duty 4, on the other hand, took me about a day to get how "deep" the game truly was, and the same principle applies to Gears of War 2 in my opinion. Gears' proximity grenade whoring and unstoppable chainsaw, among many other problems, has totally killed it for me and now I will only play the game if I've got other friends to mess around with.

Just like GTA IV, Gears doesn't beckon real strategy in order to win -- just whore the things that work and forget about variety. Though I'll admit that Gears of War 2 is certainly fun, it is also something that I'd never be able to play constantly because, eventually, broken mechanics just weigh the game down and make it so much less enjoyable than it should be. Campaign was fun, but for me, multiplayer just lost it's luster so quickly I was sorridly disappointed. And judging by these numbers, I wasn't the only one that felt this way.

damn guys lay off the hateraide. gears 2 is an amazing game, much better than halo 1, 2 or 3. but, the reason why it fell off is because of what everyone is complaining about, long matchmaking times. however, lag, horrible netcode, etc, are not problems with gears. once in the game, it's fine. also, remember, lag is inherent on the internet, nothing can 'fix lag'. anyone blaming the developer should simmer down until you can code or have the slightest idea of what coding is. i used to think the gaming community was intelligent but, the more time i spend reading comments the more i realize it's a bunch of pubesecent teenage boys that like to run their mouths through their keyboards onto the interwebs.

I agree with some of what you say, but lag IS a problem. I get horrible lag in at least 1/4 of the games I play, and slight lag in maybe another 1/4. I know it is not my connect is because the game plays fine in one game, horrible in the next, and then fine again in the next. It is a "fixable" problem on Epic's part because this game automatically picks the host, and it is obviously not picking a best host. I'm sure that problem could be remedied. The way I can tell who the host is in the laggy games is the host has 15 kills, and everyone else has 1 or 0 kills. And these are all ranked match, how fair is that? GOW1 was good because you could see connection quality beforehand and choose not to enter the match.

The patch falls into the too little too late category. I find it amusing that a patch like this for a huge first party title got through to us so fast but DLC takes forever after it's "finished" by the developers.

Epic and Microsoft should have tossed us a map or two.. maybe people would have given up on Gears 2 and gone on to play Halo 3, WaW, or Left 4 Dead.

nah, the game just came out and has 15 maps already, they didn't need to give us new maps. The problem is the patch did nothing to fix the problem. If me personally, when they released a patch that was "supposed" to fix the problem, and it didn't, that in itself made me give up on this game for now. When I see a new patch come out, I will try the game again and see if it works good, but until then, I am moving on to other games.
